- It's time to cover the next set of games, and the first ones of this new Windows era of Touhou. These are probably the most important entries, the ones that introduced a whole bunch of elements that would begin to shape the series into what it is nowadays.

I do believe that Windows Yuuka and Alice are meant to be the same characters as the PC-98 ones, as there are dialogue references that hint they have met the Main characters before, such as Alice saying to Reimu "Long time no see. Don't you remember me?" in PCB, and Yuuka saying to Marisa in PoFV "Ah, you're still alive? You've grown up quite a bit."
The Original Touhou Windows Trilogy holds a special place in my heart.
It's possibly my favorite trilogy in fictional media!
touhou 7 and 8 have some of the most consistently legendary soundtracks of all time
it's not even that ZUN fell off after that or anything, it's just unreasonable to assume lightning would strike 20 times over
espically touhou 7
it is actually unbelievable how fantastic the OST for IN is. the entire series OST is incredible of course since ZUN is a living god of music (and IMO the best OST in gaming), but legitimately every single song from IN is a verifiable masterpiece

Kinda glad you add POFV in there, I feel like they are part of era too (including Immaterial and Missing Power TH 7.5 and Shoot the Bullets TH 9.5)
It makes me sad that pofv is so ignored compared to the earlier 3 games just because its gameplay is different. The interaction between the characters (especially the new ones) is so good. And the gameplay is fun.

9:53 Who is also basically only there for the reference. Like, legitimately. For all the memes I give Letty about barely being a character, having a snow woman show up in spring as the beginning piece of "something is really wrong" at least makes thematic sense.

I think Touhou Project is a pretty cool gal. Seh dodges difficult buellt patterns and doesnt afraid of anything.

Nice job. Audio was well balanced, dialogue was well paced, editing was sufficient, and the topic was clearly researched and pieced together. Nice thumbnail too. Only suggestion I would give is to instead of starting off with a soundless suggestion to check out another video, it might have been better to start talking about your point immediately, and in the interim, suggest checking out your PC98 video as well. Other than that, keep it up.
If we want to be technical, the Windows designs of Reimu and Marisa actually debuted in Seihou 1 (a PC-98 game), where you fight them in EX with designs that have more in common with the Windows ones than PC-98 ones. The game itself was released about two years before EoSD.
Also wait, people are saying PCB has the easiest Extra? I thought that was LLS (given you get a whole fucking five lives for scoring plus the one from midboss, and the sisters attacks are relatively easy to read... for most of the part, there are like two or three nasty ones).

slight correction at 9:52 , Alice Margatroid is essentially the same exact person as the Alice from Mystic Square. I forgot where, but ZUN stated that the events of that era all happened, but they're retconned to fit the canon of the current era
also, alice remembers reimu from the past, so that was probably a nod to that game haha

I really enjoy your series, it's clearly a work of passion, with all the details you go into, from ZUN's music hardware to the PoFV competitive scene. I am impressed!
EDIT: about the middle Era - what categorization are you going for? Bc TH10-12 do have a different engine and bomb system, but 10-13.5 form the Religious War story arc, so I'm just worried this arc will be awkwardly split down the middle
Thank you so much!! I originally thought of doing 10-12 for the next video but I might put 13 in there to complete that saga. Really my only worry about doing that was that the one after would only be 14-15, but I can live with that.
@@thtenco aah, that's fair you can always do 14-17, since UM is a major turning point for Touhou - in terms of artstyle, music and money becoming a now seemingly reoccurring gameplay gimmick

Her first canonical appearance was technically in the bohemian archive book. Which is a series of news articles Aya wrote in-universe and was released a few months before touhou 9.
