  • At last, Part 3 of the Trak Racer TR80 Cockpit!
    Took me a while to post this due to other projects while I also wanted to give enough time to give my final thoughts on the cockpit (I've had it for about 2 and a half months).
    I also had a not-so-great Customer Service experience with Trak Racer and I didn't want those recent thoughts to be on my mind that could affect how I reviewed the cockpit for itself.

    Great review of the cockpit, I am considering to buy! Something you did not talk about, how is the pedal tray? Is there any flex at all with heavy brake forces? Also what about the shift mount, do you use that?

    Great review and videos! Love the quality and cameramenship work you have done with your reviews.
    I own the TR80 as well and also experienced similar issues with you and had sourced my own screws and accessories from a local hardware store. But, after two months of owning the rig, Trak Racer did finally send me replacement parts including m8 cap heads, washers, 10 more ABS corner brackets which came very useful as I have my wheel and pedal mounts mounted exactly the same way as you do.
    My question is this: Do you experience any movement in the wheel deck if you try to push repeatedly on your steering wheel, almost as if you would try to bounce a basketball with your steering wheel but not actually letting go of the wheel.. When I do this, I can actually get the entire wheel deck to kind of "wiggle" in a very subtle swaying back and forth... It doesn't really "flex" and have no movement at all if I were to strictly rely on the Fanatec Podium DD1 force feedback strength. It's more of an annoyance than anything because I don't want to be able to move the entire wheel deck at all, even if I can get it to via "wiggling or bouncing" it to do so.
    I also have the podium DD mount as well. Just curious what your thoughts are about that and understand what I mean by trying to describe it? I may upload a video of what I'm talking about in the near future. Thanks for the videos 😎😁

    I'm not sure what is up with TrakRacer logistics. It's the strangest thing I've ever seen. My TR80 shipped in like 7 separate shipments, with 4 different shippers coming out of multiple warehouses.. but all in Texas. Split up among DHL, Fedex, USPS and UPS. Why?! $120 for some hokey weird broken up shipment, all arriving at different dates and as expected, 1 extremely late one moving into week 2.
    Why aren't all these things coming out of a single TX based warehouse? I'd understand if it's broken up in West / Central / East due to inventory levels, etc. but this is just strange. 3 differen't TX based warehouses? 4 shippers? Looks like everything is arriving but still waiting on 1 package.

      Hey Jeremy!
      Oh wow that’s quite an ordeal for just 1 item…
      Even if it was a few extras, seems like a lot of work..
      The shipping portion of my order was actually ok, but the packaging was not done very well when I purchased mine. Also, I do remember the boxes being a bit banged up, most likely the carrier though..
      I recently upgraded the rig with a monitor mount that attaches to the rig, the packaging came in 1 piece and it was actually great, but then again it was just 1 box.
      The good thing is once you manage to get all parts it’s a great rig, but seems like that even 2 years later (that’s when I purchased mine), there’s still some work to be done..

    • @tonynittoli4792

      I got mine this week and yeah it’s been a joke to say the least. No doubt it seems like it will handle anything. The shipping though, wtf is this company thinking by shipping like this. I opened my pedal box and every single bag was shredded with bolts, washers ect ect all over the place. Seems like a great product but the way they ship is atrocious. Not gonna lie but I’m nervous about putting this thing together and losing my composure not because of the product but the incompetence of the shipping department. I thought well it is post covid and most companies are running short staff now. That was until I started finding posting on forums and videos of the same stupidity I experienced. It’s my fault for not researching enough and I’ll own that. When you have a track record over the course of years with people dealing with the same shit you’d think the company would adapt and improve.

    • @RetroSnakey
      @RetroSnakey  2 роки тому

      Hi Tony,
      Wow! That’s sad to hear. It’s been over 2 years already since I got mine and I would had hoped they had the shipping sorted out by now… I guess lots of buyers don’t voice their opinion as much and when they run into situations like this they just deal with it in silence..
      But yes, like you mentioned, when put together, the rig is great and it’s been holding strong since I put together.

    • @tonynittoli4792
      @tonynittoli4792 2 роки тому

      Snakey I’m guessing covid could’ve played a role in crippling any improvements they might have made. I’ve got the thing about 90% and I’m actually shocked at how solid it is. If they figure out a way to improve shipping I believe more people would have no problem purchasing from them. With the current state of inflation and the lunatics destroying every facet of capitalism I will continue to support them. It has to be insane running a company like this post covid.

      Welcome Dan!
      Yes, I have no flex whatsoever.
      That being said, being an 80/20 rig, not the easiest thing to put together, have to be very precise and then making sure all bolts are properly bolted!

    I currently have a desk mount setup for racing and flight sim. Looking at the TR80-LITE. My monitor is on a wall mount behind a desk. I plan to install wheels on the rig so I can move it to and from the desk. I am concerned with now low the seat is. Is there a way to raise the height of the seat to make it more desk height?

    • @RetroSnakey
      @RetroSnakey  Рік тому

      Hi Greg,
      So unless you do some sort of custom modification, maybe adding extra profiles to where the seat connects, you can’t really raise it.
      There are different slots you can mount the seat to but it doesn’t raise it as much.

      Hey Mark!
      Appreciate the feedback!
      I can safely say the pedal mount and the plate are super solid! No issues at all.

      @@RetroSnakey Ok thanks. Currently looking at the RS6 and TR80 Trak racer rigs. It was the pedals mounts that look the weakest part. Do keep reading people who have had issues with them as well..

    • @RetroSnakey
      @RetroSnakey  3 роки тому +1

      @@marke5174 I see..! Well, the rig itself I have had no issues at all.
      Most of the issues I ran into was the whole process of getting all the parts to actually build it, etc.. but once built, it's been great.
      I did add a few extra brackets to hold the longer vertical profile to the pedal vertical profile as I showed on this video and it is basically rock solid.
      Building a 8020 rig isn't as straightforward as one may think, Will @ BoostedMedia did a video recently giving a few tips on building it since the room for error is so minimal due to the entire rig practically turning into 1 whole piece when assembled (that's how solid it is!).
      I will soon be doing a Fanatec V3 pedals comparison video with their more entry level CSL LC so I will be taking things apart a bit for the video but I don't expect it would be any different with the CSL LC that I plan to test.

      The AccuForce has bottom holes so the standard mounting base the rig ships with should work. It has been just about a year since I got mine, but double check with Trak Racer to see if they have made a bracket specifically for the V2. If not, the standard one should work. 👍

How has the rig been since the build? I didn't know if you were planning a follow up video at all. Just looking for a good opinion now that you've had it for a couple of months. Can the weel base be moved higher? More level with the head?

    • @RetroSnakey
      @RetroSnakey  3 роки тому

      It certainly can be moved higher. Since I use my rig for other things and not just sim racing, I don’t want to block the bottom part of my monitor so I keep it slightly below.

    My experience has been bipolar. Dealing with the Australian customer service, absolutely sucked. Totally shit and on par with the shit service I got from fanatec.
    However, Dealing with the customer service in the United States has been the complete opposite and Totally fantastic.
    My humble advice is that if you live in the usa, contact trak racer in Texas, its actually a new jersey number but regardless, give them a call, they're nothing like the aussies who clearly don't give a shit about your feelings about their level of service, or lack thereof.

      Sim Racing Geek awesome! Thanks for the response. I’ve seen videos lately of them wrapping the parts more carefully now for shipping so I’m really considering going with the TR80 even with the customer service issues you had. I appreciate the response and the video series of your experience!
