Excellent demonstration and review. I ordered one only because I think Sony is the best out there, with that said this is a pretty black and white unit with a number of key features missing from prior units in the past. Examples, HD radio, custom colors to match your existing automobile as mentioned, once more HD radio ;). I'm buying it for sound but never hurts to have a little bling attached to the unit as an option. Henry Ford would have loved it, "Any color as long as it is black" 😀 I currently have a XAV-701HD, it's going to be a hard pull; as old as she may be that is what this unit should have been with bonuses of the current technology. I think what is worse is that Sony and probably many others don't support firmware nearly long enough. Couple of years and functionality goes down the drain fast. 10 year firmware updates should be the minimum.
Why is HD radio so important if this model has Mobile ES?
I've been eyeing on this unit ever since the press release a month ago. I wad wondering how you were able to get your hands on this? Looking at the Sony website gives me the impression that this is not out yet.
I love mine trying to figure out if they is some way to play a fire stick on it
I was considering the Somy 9500 but decided on the Alpine ILX-F11 for the bluetooth knob. I love it other than you have to wake the knob up before powering on the head unit. Kinda annoying!
Again... did they fix the laggy carplay while in a phone call issue?
I have the 4000 and at 83 years old I find the screen faded or washed out as others have described it. I have a really hard time making out the maps. Have you seen this in your review of it. I seldom drive at night so I don’t know how it would look. Thanks.

If you haven’t found your answer to this question, I’ll be happy to answer. I had the same question and didn’t find any answers. I just went ahead and attached my Samsung T9 1 TB SSD and it picked it up phenomenally. Not a single issue of drive not being recognized like I had with my previous unit.

I am experiencing Apple CarPlay issues. Specifically, Hey Siri/Siri not responding on my new Sony XAV-9000ES. Not to mention touchscreen accuracy issues as well. I am running the latest iOS 17.0.2 on my iPhone 13 Pro and my 9000ES is on firmware that was shipped out with (product released in stores this past month). I have reached out to Sony directly to push a firmware update to address this. If you're reading this Apple please address on your end as well. Thank you :)
Hi, I have a huge issue connecting my iPhone 12 to the unit.
The unit connects by default through Bluetooth resulting in not having the apple CarPlay function. I got my iPhone iOS updated but still the problem persists, your help is highly appreciated

Can you remove the little ES orange logo on the lower right? is it a sticker of embedded in the screen?

For me, I'll just cut-to-size a piece of electrical tape to cover that "steal me" ES logo up.
if they do a software update where i can remove clock i might for sure purchase.
JUL2024 they did just that plus. In addition to removing the analog clock you can set the custom button to go directly to the sub level.
Crazy question but do you know if it sends information to the pre-outs as well as the internal amped speaker outs?

How is the display on this compared to the Sony AX6000? Is it a noticable brightness and resolution bump?

I’m interested in this too. I have the 6000 in one of my cars and I love it. If I buy this unit I’ll comment on the comparative brightness of the two units.
brightness i don’t know but the resolution is native 720p
I own both the 6000 and now the 9000. Both are exactly the same brightness (as measured from a Light Meter Apple Store App). The resolution is also exactly the same. What’s different is the panel thickness. A special adhesive makes the thickness between the screen and the glass layer thinner, which does make it seem clearer, especially in bright sunlight. I hope this helps.
@@RobertFiedor-s1h the 6000 does not have HD 720p touchscreen resolution, you can visit the sony page or crutchfield and none advertise as HD capacitive touchscreen but it could be like the earlier Sony model which if you connect it the phone CarPlay is 720p but android auto its 480p, looks like crap
@@RobertFiedor-s1h that is not true. The 6000 is 800 rgb x 400 resolution screen. The 9000es is HD 720 resolution, it’s literally a better screen, that’s why they released the ES.
The crossover seems to be the weak link. So you can’t adjust the tweeter and woofer separately. so u need a dsp anyway.. definitely not gonna be using a 3 way front set up… also only a front and rear output kinda puts you on the simple side .. so the dsp is useless if you want a better set up.
It has built in dsp woofer yes ill check mine for tweeter

Honestly I don't care how sleek or feature rich the head unit is, without a volume knob I personally next it
