I cut a lot of sheet metal with a 60W fiber laser. One thing I learned quickly was to use annealed stock whenever possible to avoid the metal moving around as the laser etched all the way through. I also add narrow 0.020” (0.5mm) bridge strips to the artwork to stabilize parts being cut free of the sheet. These are easy to clip and sand.
Great demo, especially because you address the metal cutting functionality that is being skipped in most other demos. Got some ideas and I like the "free" metal plate resources from old drink cans, so thanks
That really is a fantastic machine David. So many uses for it. Even just to engrave details and dates on projects. Thanks for the demonstration. Cheers Nobby
Pretty neat. I just happened to order a cheap gantry style lasercutter for wood a few days ago, arrives soon. Looked at the fiber lasers for metalwork, but bit out of my budget for now.
That looks to be an amazing piece of kit. I can see a lot of uses for it, but don't have the money. I must admit that when I saw you using it to burn through metal, my first thought was, is there a much more powerful military version that could shoot down unwanted air born objects. Missles, UFOs etc.
Sorry I do not know the answer but send me some gold and I will try it. Seriously , ask xTool customer services for the answer. I expect it may cut thin sheet.
Can these machines use EPS Files to do The work? Is there a special format other than that used on this setup? What Diameter is the limit on the tube setup? lotsa Q's. Thank You!
Yes the metal can distort with the heat from the laser. I use some metal strips as weights to keep it held down on the bed. The finished item comes out fine.
@@jamesmullen9791 I did not have any issues with warpping. The parts shown stayed flat. I did some other parts too and they were OK. I weighed the brass down at the edges with thick steel strips. Another comment suggests annealing the brass so you could try this.
You do realise that by sticking that label on your e moped , you are turning a minor traffic offense into a criminal one and involving your sponsor in a potential fraud case ;-)
@@rlewis1946 OK but this applies to UK/EU not US. In a previous video Myfordboy converted a bike into an 'ebike'. However, the conversion , although very nice, would not meet UK Electrically Assisted Pedal Cycle regulations, so if used on UK roads (or designated cycle paths) could mean a traffic offence (No Tax, Insurance, MOT - single vehicle approval! etc.) . A relatively minor inconvenience - fines , licence endorsement , bike crushed perhaps . In this episode Myfordboy engraves a label that if fitted to the bike would fraudulently suggest it met the EAPC regs, which would be a criminal offence. Now, while he is unlikely to be caught, if he ran into a pedestrian (very easy to do given the way people walk along fixated to their phone, some with earplugs rammed into their ears , completely oblivious to anyone around them) then the above might be investigated ,sponsors would be questioned (did kirbbike approve sticker?,etc. etc.) , it could get embarrassing in a hurry.

Best demo I have seen yet! X-tool should hire you.
Thanks for the label show. Would be interesting making some gears on the laser. Thanks for sharing
Now if I could only justify one... Super nice.. Thanks for sharing.. I can see this useful for many projects

A very impressive bit of kit 👍👍👍 The label making facility would be extremely useful. Cheers, Alan.
Let me know if you need a lable.
@@myfordboy Thank you very much, I might just take you up on that 👍

this is great!
did you use Score to cut the Aluminum can, or switch to Cut and just didn't show that in your edit?
@@Revvek To cut can I used CUT.
Is posible cut gold or silver? Thanks for your answer.😊
Sorry I do not know the answer but send me some gold and I will try it.

Nice. You could cut the center of the washer first, for better stability and hole roundness.
I would normaly do that but forgot and let the software choose!
Fascinating!
Was the dog engraved on brass? If so could you share the settings, I am only getting a white.
The dog was 0.5mm brass. Cut at 100 power and 16 speed 60 passes.
The lines were scored at 100 ,20 speed with 5 passes.
Looks very useful 😊thumbs 👍

Using the rollers instead of the chuck the rotary attachment can handle 198mm dia. You can use dxf, vector or svg files.
Great review,
It almost seems like cheating, that's not going to stop me wanting one, where's my Christmas list. Good range of practical tests, thanks.
Do you have any issues with the metal warping while its being cut? if so how do you prevent that?

Looks like a pretty versatile piece of kit. WRT the label, can this be produced from a scanned image/pdf from a 'master' or original?
You can import SVG, DFX,PNG, JPG,JPEG, and BMP files.
Nice to see. Have you tried any other metals to see if it'll cut?
0.3mm stainless cut ok.
@@myfordboy Not bad. I'm looking to cut 0.5mm Copper Nickel Sheet. Not sure how that would handle it.
How do you manage to Set 70 Passes ? Xcs Limit me to 10 passes.
Or do you have the new xcs 2.1 Beta?
Great Video , thank you.
Yes v 2.0.117
With experience I can cut the brass with 50 passes. The limit of 10 passes is in score, cut allows more passes.
Can you directly engrave PCB with this machine ?
I do have any to try but think it may be possible.
What gauge sheet metal can you cut?
xTool claim 0.4mm brass and 0.3mm stainless but I cut 0.5mm brass without any issues in the video.
@@myfordboy Did the brass warp at all from the heat? It doesn't appear to in the video. I've been trying to cut some .4 mm and it is warping.

Marietta Island
The most disturbing part of the video is that you drink Budweiser
haahaaa....
My question is, If you had to pay £3679.00 for this tool would you ?
I could not justify the cost for hobby use but the tool would be ideal for creating a small engraving business.
Do you still have place to put all these chinese gadgets? 😅
Yes I do.
@@myfordboy Well that's fortunate 😅
