Forgot the blob knot, I’ll revisit! Had the 525 mag (when they first relaunched) and now reside in Sydney. Have an original CSMII CFS Speedmaster that I used for a very long while and suits the ground perfectly, but want to couple this with my M4 GT’s. I’d expect the 515 to be a good match and will be glad to have mags again
This video is absolutely fantastic, I made the change from fixed spool to the penn 515 mag 4 and having followed the advice given within 45mins I was casting over 120yrds with ease, thank you its really helped
@AnglingCentreWestBay will you show a video or inform in the comments what that green part is that hangs next to the reel? I just bought this reel and I don’t see that with mine. I’m new to conventional reels and I’m not sure if I got all the parts with mine. Thanks.
I noticed their is no line guide on the reel can you cast large lures with it because I want to musky fish with one on a lot shorter rod lures fom 1oz to 10 oz and above around 20 lb test line and bigger rod length about 8ft
Now theyve been out for quite a while, howany have you had returned with problems with the plastic bearing housing near the main gear bearing? Or other drivetrain issues? Just wondering whether to save a few more pennies up and get another Fathom II 15SD to pair up, or to get one of these (being similar reels other than being plastic and in most places, cheaper, some considerably)
Hi, In all honesty we've had none returned to the shop and mine are still going strong. I would say it will be just a personal preference between the fathoms and the mk4's. 👍👍
@@davechidzoy424i had a pair of 525 mag2 reels and had problems with the gearing in them wobbling about due to wear in the casings, causing the handle to wobble and a bit of grinding on and off in the gears. Seemd like the mag3 was just updated with stainless gears and different coloured anodizing, and this one the mag 4 with the extra bars in the frame, the anodizing again and the extended drag knob? Went for the Fathom 15SD's in the end, but might have to have a look at these as a pair of spare reels (in case of major birdies) as have seen one place advertising them for 99.99
Just watched your video mate and definitely a brilliant review, looking myself at getting a 525 as have the mag 3 as well, would you say that these would be a major upgrade from a slosh 30 and rocket chrome
I would say you can probably run the mag 4 faster than the slosh with less chance of blowing it up. You'll also have a better retrieve rate than the rocket 👌
Greetings. I was very interested in this coil. Can you please tell me which one is more suitable for loads of 40-70 grams (1.5-2.5 ounces) on a mono-line 0.38 millimeters (17 libres)? The casting range is needed 70-100 meters (75-110 yards), and after casting, you still need to freely release the rig downstream about 80-100 meters (90-110 yards). Please help me choose between 525 mag4 and 515 mag4. Thank you in advance for your response.
@@anglingcentrewestbay Greetings! Thank you for the quick response. Then I'll ask you more. What test and rod length is needed to achieve this goal? Is the rod better composite or telescopic? Is the rod hard or soft?
OLD abu, ie before Pure Fishing ever got involved. The Abus made over the last 5yrs, are absolute dogs**t. Want a 6500 sized reel for distance fishing? Daiwa 7HT Mag, or an Akios 656 are are about the only ones worth looking at.
I use it in matches where there is going to be a lot of fish or when fishing over broken ground as it has better winding power then 7ht mags. The mags do have the advantage when it comes to out and out distance 👍
You won't probably won't read this comment but pendulum casting with people to the right of you!!seriously!!I've had a very close call many years ago which scared the #### out of me and the caster. Please don't....cheers
Sed it for nearly 2 years now, no issues. I've had 525 mags since they first come out, yes the originals are strong but I've never had an issue with any version 👍

Thays great to hear! Thanks for the feedback it really is appreciated 👍👍 good luck with your fishing 😊😊
Thanks for video fella, I was in the market for one of these and your video has convinced me to go ahead and get one, thanks. 👊🏻
Thanks for the feedback mate, good luck with the reels 😊
Wow... Dorset looks like Ibiza. T-Shirt weather in October?! Amazing. Greetings from the frozen wastelands of Northumberland. Keep up the good work.
Excellent video have just purchased two 525s, what was the rod you were using please?
Hi mate, it is a greys platinum gsi which I use for all my distance fishing 👍
Thanks for line dia on what reel to use for better 😀
Good review think im gonna buy this reel

would be a good reel if made in a left hand version
Excellent review 👍

I would say a minimum size weight would be 2oz and I would say their isn't really a maximum providing you can hold the spool on the cast 👍
Can I ask what the green pice is around the reel/ spool when casting? Thanks
Hi, it's cricket bat grip. I use a small strip that goes under my thumb so I can grip the spool

Hello, casting 90-110 yards you will be fine using the 515 with .38 diameter line. They are great reels 👍🏽 hope you enjoy yours

It's one of my Greys Platinum GSI's 👍
Dave if you wanna gain a few yards don’t be scared to ask😹😹
Hi Simon
Think I'm beyond help to be honest 🤣🤣 old age don't come in it's own 😁😁
Which rod are you using buddy?
Hi, it's a Greys Platinum GSI. unfortunately not available anymore 😩
Penn for Fishing.....Abu for tournament casting......👍

All chinese reels are junk now and dont last.
There is some crap ones about but I've had the mag 4 for 4 years now and absolutely no issues 👍
These China made reels are full of plastic gears, rubbish.
I have the USA made 525Mag brill.
Try find 2nd hand 525Mag
10 times better.
