Defensively he was weak, he lacked strength, his first touch was a 50/50 gamble and his decision making wasn't always top tier. He did have the speed to recover, decent low driven crosses and he dribbled quite well in the final third, but I would still put him just below Jordi Alba, for example. At the time, if you were old enough to watch and understand, there weren't many top tier left backs in the game. It was one of the weaker positions in football, so the standards were quite low. The all timers in Italy were past their prime, Roberto Carlos was getting old too. You could probably put Evra in the top 10 of his generation, maybe, but all time he's nowhere near, I'm sorry. Nowadays this position is so stacked, it's crazy.
