His works are amazing but I have to disagree with you concerning the "practical" part. Art is not meant to be practical. Haute couture is not casual wear, it's meant to deliver a message or make you think even if it is impractical.

It's fine to be art but people (the models) still have to wear said art for hours on end and a lot have said that it's usually extremely uncomfortable and sometimes just dangerous wearing or performing in some pieces.

What you’re referring to is more about how wearable it is compared to other avant garde offerings. So you see that there are more "practical applications” for this particular designer’s pieces in award shows, galas and other formal events that merit a high fashion statement while being able to move around and look amazing in them.
What's more interesting is that the swirks have become so iconic that you dont even need to ask what designer someone is wearing. You know it's a Gaurav Gupta outfit when you see one.

Zardozi is such a stunning technique, it makes the fabric look like it was made with magic. And his pieces though so structural have this beautiful flow to them that again just look like fairy clothing suspended and floating with magic! So pretty!

Instantly? Uh, no. He's been doing couture and dressing celebs for decades now. Just because the media decides to hype him now and make him a favorite doesn't mean he wasn't already creating great works before. I worked 2 buildings away from him with another well known designer and my best friend was with Gaurav. He slayed then too. This was a decade ago and we were just out of fashion college. I'm glad he's now getting the recognition internationally that he deserves.
