POMODORO TECHNIQUE - My Favorite Tool to Improve Studying and Productivity
Вставка
- Опубліковано 9 гру 2016
- The Pomodoro Technique is one of my favorite ways to beat procrastination and maintain productivity and focus. The pomodoro technique utilizes alternating study and break times of 25 and 5 minutes, respectively. Each of these 25 minute bursts of productivity is called a "pomodoro", named after the tomato timer used by Francesco Cirillo in the 1990's.
The increasing popularity and widespread use of the pomodoro technique is no coincidence - it truly works. In this video, I go over
1. Brief history and theory of the Pomodoro Technique
2. How to Use the Pomodoro Technique
3. Distractions
4. When to Use the Pomodoro Technique
5. Modifications to the standard 25/5 Pomodoro scheme

One thing I like about 25 minutes at a time is that no matter how much I want to let myself get distracted or not work a full speed, I know that I really only have to work for a few more minutes so I push myself to pay full attention the whole time.
Omg same
@@shinflora1233 same, especially if you study math based subjects then 25 mins pass in a heartbeat, i use 60-10 pomos myself
Based on some productivity research studies I started doing Pomodoro's 52 minutes work, 20 minute break intervals. Which has worked good for me. 25 work did not seem enough as when I get to the 25 min mark I am wormed up and in the zone. At 52 min though I have got a good amount done and my mind is just starting to fatigue.. and 20 min rest is great time to relax or move around, or practice some deep breathing meditation. After 20 min I am fresh and looking forward to the next 52 min of work! :-D
I think 52/20 was found effective for office work where you make a living. If you want learn something on your own like a language or learn to code or skill then 25/5 may be useful. My 2 cents. Whatever makes you happy, you should continue doing
It has no sense, why 52?
The best is 25 5 just to warm up and have a little goal easy to fulfill, after that 40-10, 35-15, so you recovered and you can do another session starting with 35 minutes this time and 7 minutes to pause, 40 10 35 15 (that's the best way, i'm italian like Cirillo, we discussed about the best way); anyway generally you don't do 2 full cycle cause you stop to eat or something else, so do not fap your mind and just do at least one cycle and you'll get 2 hours of productive work done, let's give a try :)
Wormed up??
nice pfp
@Geno yh same issue here.
I just tried this and studied from 4:30pm to 6:10 pm without a hint of fatigue i feel like i could go for hours doing this. Perfect!!
Lucky u
For the ultra lazy, set a timer for 15 minutes to do boring work, then 30 mins break. At least you get *something* done
something is better than nothing, but c'mon.
That’s genius!!!!
I will call it a " imapineapple technique " !
I have Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, so that's pretty much what I *have* to do.
I do that too lmao
If i could study straight for 25 min
I wouldnt be watching this video in the first place
Build up to 25 minutes. Start at lower times and slowly start making study periods longer and longer till you get to where you want to be.
This actually works!! I got more done in one morning than I could ever get done in a day using this technique. And I'm not even burnt out at all!!
One of my high school teachers taught us this and we really improved our grades
I’m a medical coder and started taking 10 minute breaks every hour a few months ago. We receive productivity reports every month, and I was very excited to see that my productivity had gone up about 10% with this new method.
Heyy can I ask you which pomodoro time is your favourite? I'm trying to enhance my videos ♥
@@neurostudywithme the 50/10.
So..
Study straight for 25 min
Take break for 5 min
The second part is easy..the problem is with the first step..
Exactly 😆

Yes u r right
If yoj take break , second will not be easy either

Omg I use to get NOTHING done because I would try do something for like 2 hours straight ugh. But after I found this strategy I can get soooooo much done!!! Love it!

Don't lose hope brother, just watching this means you are searching for ways to be more productive, just put your foot down, and turn your timer on and start working

Haha, I sometimes procrastinate here as well - Love these videos. I have started using PRODUCTIVITY JOURNAL app to help me focus though :D
Daniel Brown ..erm...
I do recommend take every break because you well-earned it! Also, attempts to skip breaks only save you 5 more minutes in the moment but build you more exhaustion than you thought!

I have used this for about 6 years now and it is a great tool for minor add. I work 25 min and then do push ups or squats or something. Great way to sneak in daily workouts. Thanks for sharing this DR.

@@MedSchoolInsiders I need to try this...

My attention span is so short, this method is perfect for me. It's also quarantine and we studies on our home
I struggled with procrastination for a long time since high school. I'm so glad that I discovered it early on in my first semester and it helped me overcome procrastination big time!
The pomodoro technique is really effective yet so simple. I use it when studying for exams.
I'm procrastinating by watching this
Same
I was just thinking that im procrastinating by watching these kinda videos.. im stupid
im writing my final exams for school in 3 weeks so this comes in super handy!
hi can you make a video on how to discipline yourself to study EVERYDAY??
ur videos are more to the point and effective....ty :)
I'm in final years of my studies in engineering. To everyone reading this good luck on your studies, may pomodoro bring you good luck and finished papers.
This is really cool! I never knew it was a technique, I have been doing something similar (45m work / 10m break then back to work until I was done- no extra long breaks) with house work and big projects at home. I am going back to school for a career change and this is a great technique I wouldn't have transitioned to studying. Thanks for posting this!
Me too!!! I came here to understand what a Pomodora technique is and found out that I've actually been doinh this for years 😂😂
Im going to incorporate this in my job. For passions i work on at home ill do 50/10
Pomodore technique has been really useful to me! "Productivity" is one of those things I'm absolutely horrible at, but with this technique I've managed to get started.
Only, when I started doing pomodore technique, I felt intimidated by the 25 mins. So, I cut it down to 15 mins work and 3 mins break. It worked really well; I got 1 hour of studying in, and it didn't feel overpowering. Gradually, I've been increasing the work time from 15 mins to 16 mins, then 18 mins, and so on.
It's definitely a study technique I'm very keen on!
The Pomodoro Technique I what I use to clean my house. I set 30 minutes, clean in one room then switch to another room. I keep a list of the rooms in the house and rotate this way through the different rooms. What I like about it is that I feel less overwhelmed since I am only doing ONE thing and only focusing on that ONE room. Also, this way I cover all the rooms in my house. I don't finish cleaning the room in 30 minutes but I keep moving forward and each time I get back to a room I worked on before I get a bit of a high coming back and seeing the progress I made. By constantly switching rooms I don't get bored!
omg I used this today but 2hrs/30min & didnt know it was actually a technique until now!!! wow.
Thank you so much, found this video/technique at right time, gonna to implement it ASAP!
Very good summary of the technique itself and personal modifications to fit own preferences.
I feel like 45 minutes on with 15 min breaks in between work well for me. When I have more extensive problems to complete in my homework, this helps me to not lose focus on the problem half way through. I can complete most to all of the problem, and set myself up for the next one without the timer running out. But granted, I use this for my homework in my Engineering subjects. For less active subjects, the pomodoro method works fine!
There are studies that the human brain can only focus 100% for 20-25 min and needs five minutes break to reset.
That’s why school hours are too long, 45 min doesn’t work. Obviously you can still learn something but if you want to maximize the efficiency of your learning, stick to 25
@@tsfbaf303 thank you for that, such a big help! God bless you. ❤️

Tried this last year in my freshmen year, didn’t work. But I’m trying it again now, because I really want to change my bad habit in procrastination and you gave a clear instruction on how to do it. Because I always end up using ny phone for 25 minutes than studying in that time span. Hahahaha but I really wanna get an A and be at least productive for a day. Thanks!
How’d it go?
Thank u so much. I haven't done the pomodoro technic but I'm looking forward to achieving it
M a neet aspirant watching this, hope it helps me a lot so that I can crack neet and get to my dream med college…!!!
P.S: any other student preparing for competitive exams watching this?
For right learning, I think it's more important to know how to learn and then decide what to learn. This video helped me to know about the "Pomodoro technique", which I will try definitely. Relaxing is as important as working because in this way our body and mind won't be hurt. I especially liked this technique as it can develop our focusing skills and help us to stop procrastinating. If you ask me it's a technique not only for learning but for the life in general. We would focus on our dreams and purposes and work hard for that. We must not procrastinate because we can lose our work and our dreams. We must not also forget about relaxing to be more active and think about why we should do what we do.
I honestly never knew the name for this method, have been using it since September 2011, it's amazing!
How do you do it?
Thank you this technique is really helping me on my pending task...I feel so good after checking how much I could do on 50 minutes of high concentration yay!

This is SO SO SO helpful thank you!!!!!
Thank you Med School Insiders .
Very well explained....
I've started using Productivity Journal app to track my goals and Pomodoro intervals - super useful to have all of that in my pocket!
I just did 3 pomodoros that's 25×3= 75 mins of work. I don't feel mentally fatigued at all. If I had just worked for hour straight, I would've had diminishing returns and lose interest in studying, or feel mentally fatigued. I feel like I can go on for several more pomodoros. And yes it's definitely just a TEMPLATE. start with the 25 min on / 5 min off as a starting point. It works well for me. If you have an Android device, the app I like is called "Pomodoro" (with a red tomato on it). Happy studying :D
This should be implemented in schools cause not all students can keep up with an hour long discussions
Gonna try this today, thank you!
I'm going straight from watching this video to studying using this technique. Thanks for the help!
I do 4 20 minute intervals and 5 minute breaks. I give myself extra time to get water and go toilet so I can have a proper break and still do a full 20 minutes of study. Then I have a 30 minute break or one episode of something I want to watch.
Working from home during this quarantine has killed my work velocity and momentum. Tomorrow is day one of using this technique 🤞
It's working.

Did you time travel
I think it is important that the Pomodoro time does not have to be 25 minutes of work.
For those who really struggle to commit to 25 minutes you can do 15, 10, 5 minutes instead. Of course lower your breaks as well.
Thanks
Thank you brother. Useful. Simple. Complete.
Thank you, very helpful🤗
If you love what you do you don't need break every 25 minute. When i am making music i can concentrate for 9 10 hours, when i am doing college studies i can't concentrate more than 10 or 15 minutes.
Dear Med School Insiders, I found this video useful and interesting, but I wonder if you could make a video on how to structure pauses between learning phases. Is there any technique? Are there different kinds of activities to distinguish between? Do you delay some leisure activities to specific leisure times?
Amazing idea, I'mma share that with my students back here in Brazil.
Thank you for enlighten me! I always got curious why i see most of people have timers by them while studying I know it's about having time management but I didn't know how to do it so thank you for this !!

So when changing the timing scheme: are you supposed to double the times (so that it stays in hours and half-hour slots) - or do you keep adding 25 minutes work and 5 minutes to your liking to lengthen a scheme?
Questioning this, because for example:
extending from 25 to the 50 min. work & 5 to 10 min. break, is both of the options I described above.. 🤔😥
