I've retired from truck driving since two year ago. Was 13 year on a semi with hazmat tanker in Quebec, and boy in winter it was frightening to drive! After listening to your video, im starting to think to return on the road again.... and maybe try snowplow trucking! Look fun and different! (...and god know that where i am in northern Quebec, we got always a ton of snow so plenty of job lol)
That is awesome, I'm glad to hear I inspired you! The good thing about plowing snow is the roads are always plowed right ahead of you, unless you forget to drop the plow, lol. Good luck and stay safe out there!
These video clips were from some different events over the last couple of years. Not getting much snow here this winter so I had to dig into the archives to make a video.
18:29 "No wheels falling off." 🤣🤣 Yeah, that's always a good sign, eh? I'm really enjoying this, especially after I discovered that you're in Pictou County, NS. I have friends from southwestern Ontario, where I live, who moved back to Tatamagouche a couple of decades or so ago. We get lots of lake effect snow every winter; this year there was an epic storm over Christmas, and everyone was snowed in. 😲😬 I'm now subscribed, and looking forward to future videos. Stay safe out there. 😁👍
My dad retired from PennDot literally a day before he died. He started off working for a drilling company driving their 100000 ppound rig from site to site back in the 80s but as we the kids got older he wanted to be home more then 2days every other weekend so he started working for the Township we lived in and eventually went to the state side of it. But in the winter time if it was gonna be a real bad storm and they call school off the night before id go with him and work the lever for the cinders when he told me to. We lived on the family farm at that point out in the country side of SwPa. Was always fun being the first person out on the roads during a snow storm. U guys are badasses to say the least. Nothing better then riding around with your pops plowing snow.. dont think penndot would of allowed me in the truck but the township was just a bunch of country men doing whatever they could to keep things going.
I hear ya! I would need to have permission to take a passenger that is not an employee and they would have to sign a waiver to ride shotgun with me nowadays.
Such a different setup than we run in the states. I have an underbody, and my side wing is at my tandems. We only run one ways when it starts drifting.
Looks like your trucks need the covers for the grills to keep the blowing snow from freezing .. that needs to be a standard option I would think . I love watching these videos , we hardly get any snow here in Ohio anymore, I miss getting any significant snow like we did when I was growing up
I agree! Funny they haven't figured that out yet. We don't get much snow here anymore like we did when I was a kid. Or maybe it just seems that way as I was a lot shorter back then, lol
I remember growing up my dad , grandpa and uncle worked for the county here in Michigan. Wouldn't see any of them for days sometimes even a week or more. That was in the 60,70,80s we'd get a storm and they go. We all live with in a half mile so since I was the only boy I was expected to go shovel porches and feed the couple of cows my grandpa had . Them were the good old days.
We work 12 hour shifts from 5 am to 5 pm and alternate shifts every two weeks. We got it kinda cushy compared to the good old day that your folks had to work.
Awesome videos and I thank you for taking them. I too know what you refer to about driver's who knowingly won't turn on headlights or remove as much snow as possible from their autos/trucks before they hit the roads. They endanger everyone by making their vehicle's hard to see in blinding snow storms. IN the US its a required by law that all vehicles turn on their lights when the sun sets yet many do not and our police do not have the time I believe to stop and tag them. I myself have plowed snow most of my life but in smaller full sized PU trucks yet I still with all my warning lights have fools pull out in front of me almost causing major accidents. I did a small test to see what would happen if my snow plow struck an auto at slow speeds of 5 MPH and it cut open the cars door like a can opener! Imagine the damage if I hit someone at greater speeds because they did not yield the right of way! I can easily adjust my driving, speed for all road conditions yet the wild card is always the idiots who shouldn't be allowed to drive a battery operated child's car let alone a real one when roads are dangerous, IMHO. Someday I plan on buying an older dump truck with the larger equipment to start plowing larger parking lots and sanding. Your video helped me see how it's done safely.Ty again.
All our diesel trucks were jelling up during the freeze a couple weeks ago and they had to add an additive to stop the jelling. I had a rough night that night as I hit a median and knocked the plow lights off 🙄 First issue like that I have had in 5 years. Love plowing though and love the 9pm to 9am shift when it's quiet and everything is white .
Yeah John, ya gotta like the night shift when there's not much traffic on the roads! I know from experience if we try to run summer fuel in the winter it will jell up the filters. Maybe that's what was happening to your trucks?
@@JimHowDigsDirt they said it was winter fuel. It's odd because the school busses use the same pumps and didn't seem to have the issue. Fortunately I'm in one of around 50 pickup trucks and it had zero problems.... well, until I blasted the median and knocked the plow lights off. 🙄
I did this job as a plow operator for a couple of seasons since they found out I had a class one license they wanted me to pull the brine tank as well. I said forget it!!
I don't miss driving a snow plow one little bit. Plowed the 401, 400, 11 and #7 highways here in Ontario, plus the City of Toronto. It is a thankless job here, damned if you do and damned if you don't. Don't get me wrong, I still plow snow, for my neighbours, ONLY. Keep on doing what you do Jim.
I work for a county road dept here in WA State and I go out plowing snow when we get it. I wish we had the set up those trucks up there had. Would make our job much easier.
Yeah, I must admit these trucks are set up pretty good! Since I started driving this automatic shifting Mack three years ago, it sure made my life easier and I am a lot less fatigued at the end of a long shift. Thanks for watching Mike!
I can remember a cbc radio interview with a nefi snowplow driver that quit. The snow was so high that it covered cars completely and you couldn't see them. He hit three cars in one day and quit, my nerves can't handle it.
you know, I am so grateful for people like you who make it so we can travel safely. but I'd rather have a foot of snow on the roads, rather than have then coated in salt, absolutely destroying my truck and its frame 😂
Just realized your in canada from the km on your gauges. Bet u guys get some hilacious snow up there. My snow storm would be like a fart in the breeze.
Hey Johnson, here on the east coast it has been fairly mild this winter and we barely got any snow. February and March is when we usually get hit the hardest.
The sad part of plowing snow is foolish, dangerous drivers who do not yield the right of way. Many think because a truck has a snowplow they can stop better/faster than everyone else and they pull out in front of us folks trying our best to keep roads, parking lots etc clean. I wish our country would adapt a better method of teaching drivers how to drive safely and properly. Stay safe and keep up the great work. Ty.
No heated wiper although I'd love to try them. I didn't know I could shut the alarm off, but I'm glad you told me as it can get annoying at times. Thanks for the tip Mike! Happy New Years!
@@JimHowDigsDirt our new peterbilt came with them on it. Zero build up on the wipers! We are looking to try some after market heated wipers for the rest of the trucks
Never tried plowing but I'm sure there are a number of challenges with it. I'll echo the visibility issues, as well... I think a lot of people these days take it for granted that their automatic headlights will handle all conditions but even today, while running in ice fog here in northwest North Dakota, I see people with no lights on (I hate surprises in such conditions and running overwidth blades only adds to the worries, I'm sure). I often wonder why the LED lights don't have a heater-ring of some sort for winter conditions (I am always wiping lights and reflectors), for we didn't have to worry so much 30 years ago. Thank goodness we don't have the ice you folks get, except for the compacted snow. Throwing iron all the time would get more than a bit old in short order. Thanks for sharing the compilation. Be safe and happy New Year!
Plowing kinda gets in your blood after a while! So far this winter I have only been out three or four time, mostly just salting. Hoping the snow will start soon so we can play!
@@JimHowDigsDirt I'll be happy to send some from North Dakota or Montana! I was ready for spring before the first official day of winter! lol Thanks to you and all the others that go out in the worst of it to "play"... :)))
I wish they used the same type of spreader in my area as you use. They have a wheel mounted on the driver’s side rear that barely spends and drops about a 3’ wide swath of material

Thanks Brian! I must admit I have an pretty good run out in the country and I don't have a lot of bad driver on the road that I have to deal with. I'm just happy that I am not out on the Trans Canada Highway dealing with all the crazies, lol.
How do you like the single joystick for the plow controls? My truck has smaller individual joysticks for each function (front plow, wing, underbody, and box lift)
I didn't much care for it at first because I would have to have to look at the buttons to see what I which one to press, but now that I am used to it I really!
I plow in Washington State for a county and was wondering about your wipers. Ours get frozen and snow builds up on them. We have to clean them every couple miles. Thanks drive safe
Yes, some nights it hard to keep then clean. I always carry an extra set of wiper in the truck because you never know when they are going to fail under those conditions.

@@JimHowDigsDirt ahh ok nice. Ya weve been cold over here for the last 4weeks, just over -30 to 40 snap for week. Spose be -5 today lol tshirt weather 🤣 😂 😆
All I can say to that is Brrrrrr...
15 years of plowing and I sure miss being out in a good storm
Me too Wayne! We haven't had hardly any snow at all this winter, only enough to send us out on a few salt runs. I'm sure that will change soon enough tho and I will be able to make some new videos. I imagine in your 15 years of plowing you would have some great stories to tell. Take care Wayne and stay safe!

WOW that was great and so well executed, from northeastern Ontario...though no snow to speak of on December 31 2023, it;s coming I think...Thanks!
It’s funny seeing your house in UA-cam videos 😊 thanks
Thanks for watching!
Hey Jim....Thanks for your vids....My first year driving....I'm just waiting to for the first big snow to get my hours in. I've got lots of salting in. Your Videos have been a great tutorial. I'll be 8312...on the 332....out of Hebbville. But that could change. Stay safe. Thanks again.
Thank you Scott! Glad my videos could be of some help to you. I wish you all the best with your new adventure and hope you enjoy plowing snow as much as I do. Take care and drive safe brother!
Fantastic......................
Thank you so much 😀
Me gusta mucho ese trabajo 😮
Great compilation. Loved the intro too
I enjoyed putting it together.
Good luck and stay safe out there!
ive always liked your videos, stay safe pout there
from the editing it seems like you worked 3 days straight lol. Thanks for sharing!
These video clips were from some different events over the last couple of years. Not getting much snow here this winter so I had to dig into the archives to make a video.
@@JimHowDigsDirt I appreciate your videos thanks again!
Waiting all year for the plow videos Jim! Can’t wait for more keep up the hard work thanks!
You bet! Thanks for watching Kotey!
just big respect
Thank you Rok! Glad you liked it!
I always enjoy Your videos , stay safe out there.
Thank you Donald! I appreciate your kind words and support. Take care!
Nice camera angles 👌 appreciate being along for the ride
Thanks Michel! I appreciate you watching!
Love that first plowing scene clearly 3D animation if one was not paying attention they’ll be fooled, but not me 😀👍 awesome video upload my friend
36 years at SCDOT and I miss the snow plowing and sanding .
Yeah I bet! I think I'd really miss it too if I ever retired! It gets in your blood!
Thanks for representing us winter warriors. Here in maine we’ve only got one storm so far this year 😂
You got one up on us then! Still waiting for the fun to begin here.
@@JimHowDigsDirt jeeeeesh! All of our snowmobiling trails are closed, mountains hardly have snow, it’s a crap winter lol
Excellent video! Keep them coming!
Thanks, will do!
I have never seen an underbody plow here in Nova Scotia. Can you apply down pressure with them for scraping hard packed snow?
Looks like your trucks need the covers for the grills to keep the blowing snow from freezing .. that needs to be a standard option I would think . I love watching these videos , we hardly get any snow here in Ohio anymore, I miss getting any significant snow like we did when I was growing up
I agree! Funny they haven't figured that out yet. We don't get much snow here anymore like we did when I was a kid. Or maybe it just seems that way as I was a lot shorter back then, lol
You can't keep the grill covered it depends on the temperature. The engine will overheat if it's 35° 25°with no are getting to raderator,.
Mr.jim me gusta tu video Amijo saludos desde USA Atl ga
Thank you my friend! Greetings from eastern Canada!
Thanks again Mike! Be safe!
cool job!! Very cool shots ! luvin it!
Glad you enjoyed it! Stay tuned for more!
Opening scene 👍.
Good old Friendly Giant! Great Canadian children's show from the sixties.
@@JimHowDigsDirt 70's and 80's too. Hopefully the CBC doesn't find out😆.
Hope not, lol.
Shit happens brother! It goes with the territory. Stay safe out there John!
@@JimHowDigsDirt You as well!
Good job and video!
Thank you! Cheers!
I did this job as a plow operator for a couple of seasons since they found out I had a class one license they wanted me to pull the brine tank as well. I said forget it!!
More fun plowing!
Thanks Swamp Rat! You don't have to do it anymore, just watch it on my channel, lol.
Yeah, that would much snow would be hard on the nerves. They really get dumped on sometimes over in Newfoundland!
Need some of that on the east coast 😂
Hopefully it will be here soon! It's been a pretty slow plow season so far this year.
OUTSTANDING 👍🏻
Thank you Tim! I was an outstanding student in school too...out standing in the hall, lol. Happy New Year!
@@JimHowDigsDirt Happy New Year to you as well Jim. That is sure beautiful country you work in. Appreciate the videos. Stay safe on the roads.
I used to like driving a snowplough, you really felt you were making a difference to ordinary motorists.
You're right Kevin! But I still feel bad when I fill in the end of their driveways.
Here in St Stephen nb,we havn,t had much snow yet this year,,maybe 10cm.
Yeah Russel it's been a slow winter here too! I had to use clips from the last few years in order to get a video made. Stay safe out there brother!
you know, I am so grateful for people like you who make it so we can travel safely. but I'd rather have a foot of snow on the roads, rather than have then coated in salt, absolutely destroying my truck and its frame 😂
Yeah, it's too bad we need to use salt, but that's the price we have to pay for safe roads in the winter.
O degrees I think he said that My goodness here in Dallas when is 40 I think is cold.
This is pretty warm weather for us in the middle of January. It's been pretty mild like this all winter!
Ty.
Amen brother! Some people just don't understand our challenges, so hopefully these videos will help them see from our perspective? Thanks Mike!
Happy new year
Same to you! Drive safe!
Do you run heated wipers? Did you know you can push the info button on right lever on the steer column to silence the alarm for the axle interlock
We use heated wipers too here in north central Pa, makes a big difference!
How get job there have all tickets look like awesome places to work thanks awesome video's
There are heated plowlights available.
Yeah I know, but they don't seem to want to spend the money for them.
I wish they used the same type of spreader in my area as you use. They have a wheel mounted on the driver’s side rear that barely spends and drops about a 3’ wide swath of material
Yeah these E-poke can spread out the salt.
What are you using as far as a remote camera? Great vids, mister.
I have a couple of older GoPros and a newer GoPro 360 Max that works awesome! Going to get a new Hero 11 soon.
Is that atypical problem with snow/ice on the grill; or just a bad design ? Great videos!
Depends on conditions, but It's mostly from snow coming over the plow that causes it.
I am a snow plow driver in the european alps, we alwys drive with chains on, at least on the steering axle. And we do drive 40kph but without a side plow
I just watched your video riding your honda varadero up that mountain pass. By the looks of your roads, I see now why you always run chains on the front all the time! Anybody reading this want to see an incredible road, check out SuperV8drivers video. Thanks for sharing brother!

Three winters plowing in east central Alberta and hated every minute of it. Between the idiot drivers and the 60-70 winds it was always an adventure. But we had it easy compared to the snow you get. Hats off to you sir. Stay safe. Cheers and God bless.
Thanks Brian! I must admit I have an pretty good run out in the country and I don't have a lot of bad driver on the road that I have to deal with. I'm just happy that I am not out on the Trans Canada Highway dealing with all the crazies, lol.
Two wrecker’s in one video? 😅😂😂 💩happens. Thanks for the video
Yes it does! And never laugh at the other guy when he gets stuck or you'll be next.
@@JimHowDigsDirt I’ve had my share thanks! Had to change the brown shorts a time or two 😒 so I get to laugh at the funny part or laugh at memory’s.
How do you like the single joystick for the plow controls? My truck has smaller individual joysticks for each function (front plow, wing, underbody, and box lift)
I didn't much care for it at first because I would have to have to look at the buttons to see what I which one to press, but now that I am used to it I really!
Great job 👍👍
Thanks for the visit
A special note here can be a plus sign for either Studded snow ties & or Chains.
