The rotary train is only used when snowpack levels reach incredible heights or only a couple of times each decade.

Very nice. Most videos of this operation are shot by railfans and focus only on the Rotary. Yours shows everything, including the snowcats and (most importantly) the work of moving the snow! Added bonus of excellent work by the drone.

Thank you. The audio wasnt perfect as the snowcats kept finding it the track but we had multiple channels in multiple locations to build and match. I spent almost a full day on the audio and probably would have been about 3 more days for perfection but tornado season is keeping me busy.
@@WxChasing I know from my own experience how much time and work it takes to craft a realistic audio experience to match on-screen action. But in the end it is worth the effort and I commend you for your work. James.

I was a contract Meteorologist for CalTrans for many years. I forecast snow amounts, and start and stop times, as well as how far down the mountains the roads would be impacted. I had some skill. A straight southwest flow into the Sierra's produced the heaviest snowfalls I have ever seen, with just a very few exceptions. I have seen five feet of snow in 24 hours, in the Donner Pass area, with the elevation of 7,227 feet.

I worked the snow plow over Hyak Pass in Wa State for 3 days. It was beautiful bot BOOOOORING. Oh Yeah, and the power was ELECTRIC.

I saw the thumbnail and put the mouse over it to see the first few seconds and thought, "cool" I must watch this.
Clicked it on and skipped ahead about 8 minutes and saw that.... nightmare device on the front of the train and nearly spat out my coffee!

A friend of mine was stuck on Amtrak, a couple of weeks ago, on top of Donner Pass because the snow plow broke.
Must be pretty exciting for the engineer and crew on board this train. I think it was restored after 100 years service. Very cool 😎
