Thanks for sharing! Just drove Donner Pass last weekend on a sunny day and it's amazing how much snow there is. It's the same here in Idaho and it's still piling up.
Done. If not mistaken that plow in opening is one that was mothballed for some 20yrs in Sacramento? Some beautiful scenes. For those asking why we don't all flee Commifornia--there's a tiny snapshot of why, it's the natural landscape.
"Choo choo." Ugh! My husband is a UPRR engineer. His brother likes to ask if he's out "working on his choo choo" when he calls. *Teeth grating* Please, make it stop!!!
@@hollybromley47 haha... Well I ain't no train engineer (obviously) and no disrespect intended. I meant it affectionately. I love trains. Baggage with the brother is not my affair.
Watching this a second time and sharing it with several friends, let me just say this is the most awesome video of RR snow clearing ever shot, Donner Pass or anywhere. Wow! Great sound too.
Very nice. Most videos of this operation are shot by railfans and focus only on the Rotary. Yours shows everything, including the snowcats and (most importantly) the work of moving the snow! Added bonus of excellent work by the drone.
1920's technology that still works today. If it ain't broke don't fix it. The diesel is an improvement. Love the no till cat operation. But they are not farming 😆. Amazing footage. Thanks.
Spectacular filming !! And big thumbs up for audio track that you built for it. It is tricky work and takes a lot of time which I believe most viewers may not understand. Great stuff. James.
Thank you. The audio wasnt perfect as the snowcats kept finding it the track but we had multiple channels in multiple locations to build and match. I spent almost a full day on the audio and probably would have been about 3 more days for perfection but tornado season is keeping me busy.
@@WxChasing I know from my own experience how much time and work it takes to craft a realistic audio experience to match on-screen action. But in the end it is worth the effort and I commend you for your work. James.
I was a contract Meteorologist for CalTrans for many years. I forecast snow amounts, and start and stop times, as well as how far down the mountains the roads would be impacted. I had some skill. A straight southwest flow into the Sierra's produced the heaviest snowfalls I have ever seen, with just a very few exceptions. I have seen five feet of snow in 24 hours, in the Donner Pass area, with the elevation of 7,227 feet.
I saw the thumbnail and put the mouse over it to see the first few seconds and thought, "cool" I must watch this. Clicked it on and skipped ahead about 8 minutes and saw that.... nightmare device on the front of the train and nearly spat out my coffee! WOW! I would never have thought this was how it worked, having never seen something like this before... just wow!
Super cool. Great footage and editing as well. Think these guys will ever let you on board for a up close and personal look during snow removal operations? That would just be all the way cool.
Gee, how can he se where he's going? I wonder how the mileage is on that rig. and considering this is in commifornia i imagine this thing will need to be 100% green by 2025.

betting they had the rotary out this past week up on Donner from the sounds of the weather reports.
Ya me suscribí, pero es un tren? Y lo que bota es humo o nieve?😮
@@DennisSmithAIStockImageClub It's SPMW 222.
Ohhhhhhhhh......diesel snowblower train. Raw power. Good looking choo choo. Fun footage!

Simply wow. California this year is blessed with all this rain and snow.
A top shelf video of well orchestrated snow removal. A real pleasure to watch.
Beautiful . Glad to see the sun shining.
We had a couple blue bird days it's snowing now here
I hope the railroad appreciates your video, I know the train crew does. Spectacular footage!
Wow that really gets with it very cool video.
@@danhuttinger5040 where were they when the this cunumdrum was going down. Those folks could have used a little help 😂
Too soon?
🤫🤦♂️
Great footage.
I think it's cool that UP leaves the SPMW reporting marks on the rotary. It's like a small part of the SP lives on.
Yes! My late father worked for SPRR for 29 years.
The most incredible video ever of a SPRR snow blower!
This was so beautifully and professionally done that I had to acknowledge. Really outstanding.
Wow, thank you!
CHIPPER SPEND YOUR MONEY ON BEER. UGH
Well there’s a whole new perspective on these snow eating beasts! Nice!

Thank you Jay! As more of a weather person I guess it makes for a different person but I certainly appreciate the trains and other heavy equipment.

Amazing footage. Thanks.
What fantastic aerial footage of Union Pacific crew in action.
Thank you Stan!
Union pacific has had there hands full with both the rotary and spreaders to keep economy going for the united states
at the rail intersection it looked like a "good morning Harry, goodnight Ralph" moment.
Best dinner pass snowblowing video I’ve watched
Wow, so many fantastic photogs in that area, huge compliment!
This is the soundtrack I play in my headphones when I'm snow blowing my driveway. :)
Thanks for having a sense of humor in this day and age!!
Always nice to see a train video that isn't derailed.👍
Amazing footage. Thank you for putting you and your equipment through that shoot
Beautiful work with your drone! It’s great seeing so much more than just ground videos.

Félicitations, superbe vidéo !
Drones make it look so much prettier, especially with that backdrop.

Dang, that's a lot of freakin' snow.
Thanks for the great drone coverage! Kudos to the rail outfit for their hard work, to keep things movin'. Donner Pass don't play. !
Amazing! Probably 30 ft high snow on the tracks; you can see I-80 down the hillside.
Thank you
Soooo much power. I needed a private moment to watch this. I love machinery!!!

Took me long enough but finally got it.
Nice shots!
Thanks!

✨ The "Snow Cats" doing the finish work is cool too...
I bet the Donner Party would have loved to have one of those!
They would have struggled pushing it over the rocks.
Interesting/entertaining. Excellent photography job enabling viewers to better understand how the snow removal rotor operates 😉.
Thank you!
❤Professional! Just subscribed for thrills. ¡Ándale!

She'll be comin' 'round the mountain, when she comes...
Really great footage
Thank you!
Still snowing and it's already April.
Snowing here right now we had a couple bluebird days
Those would be some awesome cross country skiing areas where the Pisten Bully's are clearing next to the tracks
Imagine trying that with a battery run machine? Green new deal LOL
Okay - I’ve imagined it. Now what?
Awesome video! Great work
Thank you!
WOW, WOW, WOW NOTHING BUT WOW!!!!!!!🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯
Must be pretty exciting for the engineer and crew on board this train. I think it was restored after 100 years service. Very cool 😎
I was jealous. Would be such an amazing ride.

Outstanding work. Quite possibly the definitive youtube video related to Rotary plow operations. Spectacular film footage throughout.
Thank you @deksea
The bell and horn together have a great harmony. Reminds me of "Tubular Bells" by Mike Oldfield.
A friend of mine was stuck on Amtrak, a couple of weeks ago, on top of Donner Pass because the snow plow broke.
Wow 😮😮😮
Great footage! I recognize that ski area. I know some sick shots on the east side of the pass you would like.
WOW,!!! 😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮
Originally Southern Pacific til the 1990s when Union Pacific took it over.
