OMG, I haven't heard this song in over 57 years!! It came out when my oldest daughter was about a year old. I used to sing it to her, after I learned the words. Brings back some VERY FOND MEMORIES!!!
Are you one of the dead dads in the comments 😭
My daddy used to sing this to me to make me smile. Thanks for sending me a sign dad
Funny...I am 73 now n I remember my dad singing to me. I love him so to this day. Tks for your reply.
Im old. And I have tears in my eyes listening to this cute song from my memories.
Y're lovely, lass.
makes 2of us.
Me too!
I always cry when I hear songs from my Childhood, you are nor alone in that
@@diannninness7871 Here's the sequel to the song. They released this on the Unicorn's 50th anniversary ua-cam.com/video/jB3MKGCRfRA/v-deo.html
My father always sang this to my daughter when she was little and on St Paddy's day would call her and sang to her - RIP Daddy :-(
Sorry for your loss
Don't worry. He is in Heaven praying for all of us. Be happy that we now have an extra Saint up in Heaven praying for you and me.
Always played several times during the St. Pat’s festivities at my local Irish Pub.
Dear ol' Da.
May he be remembered
Hey guys, I’m 67years old…I grew up,on this stuff…it never gets old only better.
If you young guys learning guitar and beach parties ahead in life, learn a few lightfoot songs…great to listen to and impress your date and friends at the beach party.
The world needs more of this.
I used to watch thier TV show. Gave me a deep and abiding love of Irish/Celtic music.
We had a road trip a few years ago- wife, one of her sisters and their parents; as I was driving I had control of radio- Sirium 60s 'on 6'.. this song came on- & sister in law & I began to sing it.. she's mid 70s birth so I was really suprised that she knew the words etc. But I had to stop singing as the end of the song approached, tearing up ... the Lord COULD HAVE SAVED the Unicorns!
You are the reason George Millar wrote the sequel, and the band released it on the 50th anniversary of The Unicorn. Here's what happened after the Ark left the shore... ua-cam.com/video/jB3MKGCRfRA/v-deo.html
Weird! I’m on a cruise ship for the past 3 weeks. There was an Irish pub on board with an Irish duo singing Irish songs. I was hoping they would sing the unicorn. Then my sister in law comes aboard as a surprise. I tell her about them not playing the Unicorn and out of the blue they sang their version of it! Now this video just popped up on UA-cam recommendations. I know what’s doing it. It’s the Unicorns coming back to life. Cheers🍻
Brings back fond memories ❤.. They also appeared in 2 seasons of the Virginian. My favorite episodes!!
What a surprise to come across this beautiful song. I heard this song when I was very young. I am a lot older now and appreciate this song more than ever.
I've loved this song since I first heard it 😊 It led me to other terrific songs performed by the Irish Rovers, for which I'm grateful.
I grew up with this song and I still love it. Thank you. May the sun always be at your back. God Bless all of you.
🦄This song by The Irish Rovers keeps the Unicorns alive in our hearts. Truly, the loveliest of all was and is the Unicorn.🦄 --Auldjohn Emeritus
Been lovin’ this song since I was a kid (70 now). My mom used to sing it to us kids 👩🏻🏫👏🏻🥰‼️
Yer I'm 70 next month and love this song also yippees
Wow...My Dad use to sing this to us all year! We saw the Rovers at Edinboro state college in PA 50 years ago...
The lead singer gave me his harmonica...
My Dad was Irish through and through....and instilled in us our 100% Irish heritage!
God Bless the Irish Rovers!
The Irish Rovers were Irish born Canadians who formed the group in Calgary in 1964.
There used to be (maybe still is) a pub called “The Unicorn” on Stephen Avenue. It was owned by them.
Our mom died when my sister and I were very young
My husband just died and my sister just sent this to me because our mom used to sing it us when we were little
Beyond greatful to all of you for fond memories when our mom loved you and shared your loving fun with us
Love love love ❤️
I remember running around as a child playing this on my Dad's record player. To this day I can sing almost every world as a 40 something old lol.

Dad knew the rovers from the Belfast area Dad being from Bangor And i think the rovers from the other side of Belfast Dad moved to Toronto in the mid 60's I was born in the 70's They played at our house when i was young for a birthday drank Ate And i remember faintly one of them slapping the other with cake in the face Dad was also a singer But it was more of a frank sinatra type crooner music He did have 1 record..Many many years later ..Thank you for the memories
I remember being in Sunday school back in the mid 70's and the Nuns taught us this during Easter I love this song
I bet I have not heard this song in over 40 years. Brought back some good memories. A friend posted it on Facebook today.
I watched these guys as a child , now in my mid 50's it brings back memories of my long past on grandfather smiling watching thier show with me on his lap .
How can anyone listen to this and not smile. One the of greatest ever.
This is one of those little jewels of your youth, that you don't see much of anymore as an adult, but is prized above almost all else from your young life and treasures. You want everyone to know it, hear it, and love it as much as you do, but at the same time, don't want to share it else the shine wears off or people might take it for granted. I heard it today on a little radio station in central Utah and I had to just pull over, stop and reminisce when I was 8 and this was a new song to me (1967). I think it endeared me even more to Ireland and all things from Shannon. It's really wonderful to be able to find it here on YT and share it with others once more. Thank you for posting it! God bless!
I love this old song
My brother and I used to sing this with my mom to the KidSongs videos
A long time ago, in Santa Rosa, California, a friend in my kindergarten class met one of the Irish Rovers at the old ice rink in town, and he offered to come play for our kindergarten class at Sequoia Elementary School. He was wonderful! And I don't remember for sure, but I 'm pretty sure this was one of the songs he played. Could it have been George Millar? To George, or whichever band member it was, THANK YOU! It was a magical moment for us! (And that little girl, Colleen, has been teaching ice skating all her adult life!)
A song for my childhood and I'm a child is the '60s and I said about that I would love to song I used to play it for my kids and I still play it for my grandkids brings back wonderful memories of my childhood thank you thank you for the memories. 💕🇺🇲
This song still makes me cry at 54 years old!
Check out the Irish Rovers, the Continuing Story of the Unicorn. They did not get forgotten after all
Why does it make you cry?
Me too...51, and for me it's because it reminds me of growing up with my dad playing this, and so many amazing others, for my mom. So it reminds me of childhood and them and so the waterworks, there they begin!
The song from The Irish Rovers was released in 1968, so it is now 54 years ago! It was a surprise #7 smash hit in the U.S. (Billboard Hot 100), but #2 on the Adult Contemporary (Easy Listening) Chart, #4 in Canada, but surpriinsingly, only reached #5 on the Irish Singles Chart! Composer: Shel Silverstein (Sep. 1930 - May 1999) on his 1962 album, "Inside Folk Songs," then later in his 1974 book, "Where the Sidewalk Ends." The Irish Rovers song sold 8 million copies worldwide!
I CRY TOO!
Brings joy to my heart. My dad sang this to us when we were kids.
First time I ever heard this song was a few years ago as a kid my dad put this song on his speaker and play this song and I just heard this song the other day and just realized that the Irish rovers did this song never knowing it this whole time honestly a pretty cool song and catchy song just one of the kings of songs that get stuck in your head all day long.😂❤👍
I love that song, it takes me back to my childhood
I play this song the whole month of March to celebrate my St Patrick's Day Birth
my dad used to play me this song on 45 when I was little..
Two Unicorns standing on the mountain top watching the Ark float away; when one says to the other; what do you mean “That Was Today?”
The Irish rovers just make you forget about the bs around you and take you into a happier place! I love them dearly….ok well over 50 years now lol
Amen!! Born bred in USA but my bloodline is Irish and claim it more than my American heritage
@@tonyarolfe6107
You may not know this, but if you can show evidence of your family line coming from Ireland you can get residency and citizenship (I think) should you want it. You don't have to give up US citizenship. But it might open up a whole new world of opportunities for you. Just fyi.
Irish music is amazing! 😁😁
Thank you. Have always loved this! 😊🥰
One of my absolute favorite songs as a child! The Irish Rovers are one the best folk bands ever.
lol I listened to this with my mom when I was really young. Awesome memories!!
I remember this song from the Ray Raynor Show on WGN in Chicago when I was a kid... what a blast from the past!!!
Every year my Ma plays this for me on my birthday - St. Patrick's Day😊 🍀
Have loved this song for Decades and only just found it again, today. God Bless you all.

How many people from Key West who went to Irish Kevin’s and heard this song? 🙌🏻❤ Nicely done Irish Rovers! ☘️
LOVE this!
My oldest sister saying this song while playing the guitar to her children. Now they sing it to their grandchildren. And I sing it to my grandchildren she's left a wonderful legacy. I love the song and I still sing it to this day
Music to our ears.
Music simply does Not get any better than this, just NO Nonsense good Music!!!!
The song that started it all... Glory be to the Unicorn Song - what WOULD we all have done without the Irish Rovers??
When I was a kid I used to sing this song all the time. It drove my mom insane. She liked the song well enough. I'm just a lousy singer.
I remember this song as a child. Listening to some Irish Rovers '33 LP' records with my Dad in the livingroom..... and it didn't have to be St. Patty's day either!
Growing up, my dad would pull out his old reel to reel player every Christmas. This was one of the recordings he had, so for me, this was a Christmas song.
SHel Silverstein wrote it
An old Irish tune... Written by a Jewish guy from Chicago, the famed Shel Silverstein. I only discovered this within the past few years. )))
Thank you for the music! 👏❤One of the world's greatest and most enduring songs.
(With apologies to ABBA, but I like the Irish Rovers much, much more!)
This got me singing out loud! This is quite remarkable because I've been having great difficulties with depression. To sing feels so wonderful!
Never heard this before but I love it
I sang this to my children when i put them to bed...later read to children in my classroom and they loved it as well....thank you Shel Silverstein...RIP.
Always enjoyed their music 🎶 ❤
No one, I know at all , knows how special this song is, and has never even heard it. I'm just lucky, I guess.
One of my ALL TIME favorites!!!
Let here it for the Irish ! What would we do without the Irish rovers and the song unicorn ! I gotta lot Irish in me and i,am proud of it and I think everyone got some Irish in them ! 🍀
One of the strangest things (almost) no one is talking about, is the fact that Unicorns are mentioned several times in the Bible today, as an extinct deer. Not mythical.
Even stranger, is the transformation of the Lion&Lamb of Isaiah 11-6, into a Wolf&Lamb.
Such a fun song. Never take fun out of your life. We never it more than ever.
I remember this from childhood I’m 69 now. My Dad use to sing it to me and with me. 😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢
Good times. Irish Rovers "The Unicorn", then came the Scots Bay City Rollers with "Saturday Night".
I listened to this song many times on vinyl in 1978 as a ten-year-old in Poland. I didn't understand the words. My parents received a vinyl record from a friend from abroad. There was communism in Poland at that time. I didn't remember anything except the unicorn on the vinyl cover. It was enough to now find the artist and the song on the Internet - now as an almost 60-year-old... Thanks for this song :)
I skipped school to watch on tv when the Irish Rovers were going to sing The Unicorn ... back in yes; the 60s
Love this group, and this song!
I LOVE this!!! I've been listening to the Rovers for years. They just get better!!!
I woke up this morning and this ditty was in my head. It's such a catchy tune!!
I am 60 and this song lifts my spirits
One of my favorite Shel Silverstein poems put to music!
Love the rovers
I remember this song from when I was little! I’m in my mid-40s now.
I got my dad this dvd for his birthday a couple of years before he passed and this song was definitely one of his favourites. He used to sing random snippets of various songs and this was one of the most frequent. Of course, at the time it was mildly annoying but it would be worth it to see him again. R.I.P you silly old bugger.
I remember hearing this song back in 1966 or 67. We lived in Vacaville California and this was played on the radio all the time. It was a song that mom would sing throughout the years. Mom has passed but this song reminds of that time so long ago. It brings a lump to my throat.
The irish Rovers song was not released until 1968, so you could not have remembered hearing it in '66 or '67.
@freeguy77 Are you calling me senile? Oh well I am 60 years old.
@@ospee2004 ROTFL. No, just mistaken on the year.
Oh, the warmth that washed over me just hearing this song, bringing me back to my childhood in the 80s.
Love the Irish rovers
Exist also an Italian version and we sings every time when we together in every party. Greetings from Italy.

@Crazy Cracker it's a joke about 🍻🍻🍻
Some stupids.
Ths song was popular in the late 50s and early 60s in the USA. I loved the song.
💕💕💕💕 Since the 60's when PBS broadcasted their shows from Canada. I have several albums/cds and 1 dvd.
I bought the 45 RPM in 1968. I liked this Song written by american Shel Silverstein Who wrote also A boy named Sue for Johnny Cash.

The Irish Rovers bring go back to my childhood, the Unicorn song makes me especially grateful for those childhood memories.
..and a bit sad.

Rest in peace mum to this day I miss you 💔so I’ve asked the boys to sing for ya……keep sleeping.
This was number 1 the day I was born in 1968 I bet my Irish dad loved it
I'm a 1968 baby also... for some reason this song just came into my head the other day out of nowhere.
Love it 🙌👍💖
hi everyone! I'm from Alexandria Virginia USA.
we always go to Murphy's Irish Pub in Olde Town Alexandria Virginia. I simply love this song! Did you know that there are movements to this particular song? No, you say?
There are!
There needs to be a Five likes button on this one. 👍👍👍👍👍🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
I Love this song so much 😍
My Dad sang this to us Children. I play it for my children. My Nana was from Country Cork Ireland
It came out when I was in the 3rd grade and living in Niagara Falls
My 6 year old is obsessed with unicorns and this is one of her favourite songs to listen to.
Such fond memories. Wilcils wife was my dancing teacher. He’s playing the accordion.
Old now , but when i hear this song it brings me back when i was a kid, as my Grandpa would always play this song on his record player for me. My mind would wonder and believed in the unicorns👌
I remember listening to this record constantly when I was very young. Core memory unlocked!
I can remember Will Millar playing a kids show in Calgary at CFCN tv before the rest of his family came to Canada. Always knew he would be a star. And as far as I think the Party song was there best work.
The show was called "Just 4 Fun"
My mom loved this song.
