Vinegar works I used on a Gameboy I bought . Just take the springs out and let them sit in it. They came out nice clean and shiny

quick tip that i do for corrosion , i make a bath with Vinegar and Lemon Juice and strain. After that i leave the parts to soak for about 45 mins to an hour. And then i use my Dremel with a Wire Steel Brush attachment. Keep it in mind as it may help with future repairs.

Is the vinigar just for the battery contact points? Or can it be used to clean the pcb? As i have one with the same problems but theres also heavy corrosion on the copper looking plating on the back of the pcb

A tip for cleaning any screen, use masking tape, it will lift off all tge particals of dust and will leave no residue behind.

Thank you for showing this interesting video. Back in 2018 I saw the original Game Boy for sale at my local second hand store. I was allowed to have it tested and it works without problems. After that I treated myself to it.

Hey dude. I have an original game boy as well. The gameboy turns on but nothing happens (audio/video). I've tried the screen on another gameboy and it works. Any ideias?

If you have time watch my video on Gameboy repairs. I used CLR to dissolve corrosion, It works really well. But in your case since you had rust on the contacts I would have used a wire brush like you used.

I tried CLR as well. It helped a bit but the corrosion was too deep.

I bought a defective one off Facebook. Was surprised to see that the 6 screws on the back weren't tri-wing, just regular screws. Does this mean it's been opened up before and they replaced the screws?

@@christianehernandezcruz2115 ah woops, I did research and iirc the earlier models of the gameboy used PH instead of tri wing

The Gameboy I have also has regular Philips screws. I guess Nintendo decided to use different screws.

I understood it all and this is my 1st rlectronic repair of any kind. But, the hardest part for me was poppibg in the control switch. Wish next video you'll take a little more video of this.

Hey there I have a circle adapter (not sure if it’s the right one, but it fits), and put batteries in it and it’s still not working. I’m at the age now where I want to get it working. How else can I get it going? Thanks

  • @eddiespaghetti54321

When I reassembled it and turned it on I noticed there’s some scan lines moving up the screen like when you film a CRT with your camera

Good tutorial thankyou! But have a BIG problem with the baking soda and water method. Those battery types actually don't have acid, they're alkaline which means use vinegar to clean it, not baking soda to anyone who does this method!

Shame about the broken screw posts, But at least all the rows of pixels were still connected on the screen.
Every Gameboy I own and all the Gameboys I've fixed for others, needed to have the screens repaired.

I had the same power problem. Battery contacts were bad. I cleaned them up and put batteries in. It works now, but when I put the batteries in the red battery light is on even though the on/off switch is in the off position. When I turn it on of course the game starts but when I turn it off the battery light is still on. It only turns off when I take the batteries out. I don't remember that being on all the time. Any ideas?

How much volts does this cable have?

    • @GlobalGarageAus
      @GlobalGarageAus  7 років тому

Around 6 -7.5V is perfect. It can vary somewhat as the voltage is regulated internally so don't stress over the exact number too much. You can also look at the batteries as a reference. So 4x AA batteries at 1.5v each, that's 6v when connected in series.
