Brother, you just saved my life. This is going on two months now trying to figure out this camera and interface. I watched probably 100 UA-cam videos and went through every possible. I was about to lose my mind. Thank you again for the content!
Your sample footage of the issue was digital noise. Likely from a smartphone, or other mobile device. This is a type of interference. Setting levels generally won't be very effective at resolving that issue, but could help. For 'hisssssssss'. The difference of volume between the 'hiss' and your subject audio is called 'signal to noise ratio'. Yes. Setting levels can solve it. Basically, keep your levels as high as possible from the source end of the audio path and as low as possible on the record end of the path. So your mic gain as high as possible and your record level as low as possible. ...in your case you don't have access to one level. So your 'noise' in the signal-to-noise is a fixed level. So, you want to get enough signal level without turning up your record level to the point where the noise is excessive.
We film with a Canon M50 and this has been bugging us for a while! Just tried it and seems to have fixed it... time will tell! But thanks for the video, really great!
Excellent discovery. I was contemplating buying a new microphone. Lucky you posted this. Otherwise, I will go crazy looking for solution for never ending problem. Keep up the good work 💪
Dude thank you. I have the same camera and a cheaper Rode mic (the micro) and got the same noise sound but more annoying and frequent. I don't even know why as it was never there when I recorded videos before. Maybe it appeared cause I was recording indoors with a lot of tech and lights present but idk. This helps a lot. I HATE FILMING INDOORS!
I decided to play around with the volume, on another video the guy said to set the video up as if you're recording a video and get the volume meter to hover around the 12 point whilst toggling the volume dot. This did help however there is still low level hiss so I used a noise remover effect. Overall, the audio doesn't sound near as good as the reviews of the mic so I'm ultimately blaming my Canon DSLR and I'm going to consider buying a lavalier mic in future
This is exactly my case as well. All my audio is now lower volume. I was going to get a lav mic, but eventually went with the bigger VideoMic that has the high pass filter, but didn't test it yet.
Thanks Alex. I followed your instructions but the audio was too low. However, after adjusting these setting under M, I then tried it under scn and the noise has gone. I had that noise on every clip prior using the Rode shotgun. Not sure how or why, but thank you!
Alex Broere still having a hard time with it. I’ll keep playing. Between that and the camera over heating in higher rates.... ugh! Learning curve and frustration.
Yeah, the key is to find the sweet spot for your camera. I've also had to go back a couple times to re-adjust, because I still noticed a slight noise. An overheating camera doesn't sound normal though! You might want to get that checked out.
Alex Broere there are other videos talking about it, so I’m not the only one. Does it in higher definitions. Can only do short videos before it overheats. What do you run yours in?
For me it was not enough and if I am in the lower half of the gain, the rode video micro doesn't hear anything :D I haven't fixed the issue yet but tweaking things...
I don't have any examples uploaded at the moment, but I'll be uploading more videos soon where you'll be able to hear that it is fixed! I have tested it of course, and I can confirm that it removes the noise.
I was able to get hiss free audio with the Rode Videomic in my latest vlogs (see my paddle boarding or travel to portugal video). I do have to admit that it’s not as easy a fix as I initially thought, because you do have to adjust the recording level depending on the amount of sound (such as the sound of you talking and the level of ambient noise). In addition you also have to record in Manual mode, which can be annoying if you prefer to use the Auto mode. Anyway, it is possible to get good audio with the Rode Videomic.
PS: Make sure you record in Manual mode!
Is there no way you can do it for shooting in auto. Im so bad with getting all the settings right myself
just set my camera to the settings you said and going to test them out tonight to see if it improves that annoying hissing

Glad to hear it worked for you!

Hmm this didn't work for me. It simply turned the volume down. When I turned it up, the background noise was still there.

Subscribed just because of this video that saved me!!! I’m a small UA-cam channel trying to grow too. Good luck!!
Thanks! I’m glad to hear it worked for you.

For me, after lowering the camera gain to 1 notch above 0 I still get huge white noise
Thank you!
very helpful, thanks!
Thank for sharing
There you got one more subscriber, I’m in the same struggle 😅
Thanks! Were you able to fix it?
This is such a huge issue for me and has ruined so many videos. I noticed the router and my studio lights cause this disturbance
"Feel free to play around with this ... and the hissing will go away." Hmm....
Good video. Thanks.
I will try.
Do you of examples after audio after the fix?
I don't have any examples uploaded at the moment, but I'll be uploading more videos soon where you'll be able to hear that it is fixed! I have tested it of course, and I can confirm that it removes the noise.
Ofcourse not or never. Bcoz the hiss always stay there. Biggrst issue with road mic. Best option use your iphone for recording the voice..

It didnt work. If you bring down audio level all the way down later you wouldnt hear yourself because the volume of Audio decrease soo much.
You have to finetune the exact level that works for you. I still re-adjust the recording level depending on the amount of ambient sound.
I just subscribed
Thanks!
