I can't believe you're making a video about one of these guitars. My first guitar was exactly like this one. Same color, same neck, everything. I haven't seen a lot of these Sledgehammer guitars. I remember I bought mine for less than $100 off of the town drunk. He wanted $125 for it, but I didn't have that much. He took what I had and no doubt got seriously loaded. It's the guitar I learned to play on. I remember when I got rid of it, I traded it to a guy for a diamond ring for my girlfriend. I thought the guy was trying to rip me off, so I took the ring to a pawn shop. The guy at the pawn shop offered me $2000 for the ring. I traded immediately. When the girl and I broke up, I asked for the ring back. She refused. In the end, I ended up with nothing but a lot of great memories. Thanks for the video! I spent more time going down memory lane than I did watching the video.

I cannot imagine what it's like to see some of the stuff you've seen people trying to sell. The last time I sold a guitar of mine (and may it be the last time FOR LIFE!), I cleaned and set up that axe as well as I could. Sold it within minutes to a local Guitar Center! Presentation COUNTS!

Something about those “cheap” beginner Strats from that era with the banana or hockey stick headstocks are so cool to me. I hated them back when I started playing but the quirkiness of a traditional Strat with an extreme headstock just dose something for me. One of my friends I started playing with had an HSS Hondo with a hockey stick headstock and a bonafide slab rosewood ding board on it . At the time it was like a dollar store “ Excalibur “ (Wayne’s World reference )

Because we all had them and wanted better and then we got better ones and now want to mod stuff and we won’t do it to are better ones so now we want the old cheap stuff to make unique and fun. I traded my blue sparkle vista series squier super sonic for a Gibson Les Paul studio and I was so paranoid about it not staying in one piece that it made me not want to play and it was just a nightmare to me and ever since then I only buy squiers and I never try them plugged in. If it feels good and sound’s loud and full unplugged then that’s all I need. CTS,Mullard, and Seymour Duncan and Wilkinson will fix everything else if it needs it. And then nobody will ever have the exact same guitar as you😊

@@booitsnick I couldn’t tell you the last time I actually plugged in an electric guitar I’ve bought. I can pick one up and almost immediately before I even strum it know if I like it or not, just picking it up off the hanger feeling the neck and weight of it , if it doesn’t feel right immediately I rarely ever actually sit down and play it unless it’s something that I really have been thinking I’ve wanted, I’ve gotten over a lot of GAS like that. I agree with everything you said about those older cheap guitars. I’d love to run up on an old Peavey Predator or Falcon with a nice figured neck on it for about 300 bucks. I used to really baby my guitars and I kinda got over that, I’ve played Ibanez mostly and they are pretty much indestructible sure they are basswood and they dent easily but they can fall off a stand or handle bumping into things. I mean I don’t abuse them but I don’t baby them either. My fiancée accidentally knocked one of my guitars over and she thought I was going to be really upset with her, I told her they were tools and they were meant to be used and shit happens it’ll just add character and another identifiable mark on it. I don’t get guitar collectors hoarding vintage instruments and driving the price up so that people who actually want to play them can’t afford them. I just don’t get it, I mean Kirk Hammett takes one of the most famous Les Pauls all over the world with him and lawyers and doctors are locking bursts away in a vault so their kids and grandkids can hawk them when they die .

I used to have a J.B. Player Neckthrough. H-S-S with a trem. I really enjoyed it until my kid brother and a few of his friends got ahold of it. Somehow they broke a neckthrough. Evidently someone stood on it.

I have never seen these guitars before, I guess they are not that common in the UK, I love those micro tilt devices but have only ever seen them on mid to high end guitars.
I recycle the brass rings off strings, I spray them with clear coat and use them as pre weights on the fishing floats I make.

Guess I've been kinda reliving the good old days. I just bought a '65 Kent/Goyatone which was my first electric. It is in truly mint condition w/original gig bag. Ended up paying more than American Strat, but I have great memories when I look at it.

I love unassuming guitars with hockey stick headstocks. I have an 87 Kramer that looks like a normal sunburst Strat but has the classic late 80s headstock.

My local pawn shop always has guitars missing a b or e string. Its annoying.

Pawn shops need guitar techs. Would get a lot more money for their instruments.

I have a red set of Evans Eliminator singles, middle is black tho. then it would be a fookin Sledghammer!!! oh boy, the Bridge specs out at 19.7 the looming question in regards to price is does it stay in tune? or hats it take to stay in tune, me thinks if you can stage that axe its worth $200 easy specially since its not scratchy or funky . . .

Dane, how about a video with a bass (since you're a bass guitarist) on your bench?
Also, do you not trade in acoustic guits, or mandolins, banjos, etc?
    Love your work.

as sledgehammers or strat's go that sure is a nice one in a rare combination with the blacktop on maple black dots.. I look at guitars all day long 24/7/365 and I haven't seen one of those as of yet.. its a rare one as the black on black in maple, generally its a red or white guard then rosewood so its a rare one considering maybe 1 or 2 percent are black on black maybe 15% are maple, no idea why these late 80's 90's and 2000's in maple are so rare unless you consider 70's was a whole bunch of maple and people got tired of it? hard to say why so few in any brand are maple during these years? it may have been the expansion of baseball across america and that sucks up a good deal of the hard rock maple sticks they use for bats, the rest guitar makers get eh?
its an outlaw Axe for sure with appointments, a guy could really ramp that one up, refret in extra jumbo stainless or Evo, oh a nice bridge say a Callaham or a Sophia, perhaps a set of vintage dimarzio distortion singles or whatever fits the bill, and I tell ya what I have many pointy tipped charvels mainly a few others and if it does need new tuners the Gotoh SGS510Z's (or guyaker) are very nice or the hipshot open gear lockers, very nice choice for these specially if you have all black chrome hardware the old style black chrome with the black dots.. uh huh . . ., that stuff is so nice, the real stuff, i prefer it over all..
anywho yea that be a very sweet axe, if a guy could convert the hardware over to real black chrome better yet, murdered out pointy strats are so nice, I have a few odd off brands I hot rodded up tastefully and they're very go to for sure.. this one actually sounds pretty good on those pups and that neck, check out how tight the grain is on that fingerboard holy smokes you don't see that anymore.. if I had the room . . if you part it I'll go for that neck. . . :-) hale the more I look at it the more I like it so I had better stop, when your bathroom is hard to access cuz there is so much gear in em it may be time to slow down a bit? man I like it tho, if it had a 1984 floyd rose i'd have to have it.. those templates are not that expensive, $12 or so? then all you need is small hand router off you go.. man that's tempting.. so tempting, list it so I can see when and if it sells, perhaps I can make some room... evil . . . bwahahahahahahaha

Those guitars are ok. Those strings are garbage! Put some real strings on the guitar!
