You have made a real science of this and it is tremendously impressive. Honestly, nobody would guess unless you told them the boulders were faux. Incredible to watch.
You just have to do some research , as it’s getting harder to find these days because most people who generate waste are densifying it, and selling it to manufactures who then make new polystyrene products.
You are sharing trades secrets here. Thank you sir for sharing your knowledge and for making sure that the people that you inspire, can continue your legacy, even can make a career o make a living or simply have fun and make prettier their garden. You are a legend

Well, thank you very much for your kind words. I really appreciate the opportunity to serve. Thanks for taking the time to watch my video. I appreciate it.
We call that technique’ stippling’ , where you dab your brush, crumpled paper, etc and blot the surface to create texture. As a professional restorer - conservator of antique furniture I always have to cosmetically colour all new repairs usually with powder earth pigment and / or artist quality acrylic paints . I have found the best results in disguising new patches etc is often to stipple the pigment with medium if necessary as you can build up layers of differing shades and depth of colour without any brush strokes to draw the eye .
Yes, we do stippling or Dobbing techniques for texturing, but just to be clear, the video that you commented on is a technique, where in we splatter because you’re dipping your brush into wet cement, then flicking it, or splattering it onto the surface to create texture, which is a little different than the stippling technique that you’ve mentioned
Your information and knowledge is amazing. You're a great teacher! I would love to purchase your digital training to do some of this work around my home and for some clients. I will look at your page again for how!

Hi Jim, I just trying to source some of the items needed to make some rock, the additive you use, is it "Liquid Acrylic Polymer" or is PVA the same? Thanks.
You were looking for an acrylic polymer ad mixture, which is 100% acrylic. PVA(Polly vinyl alcohol) is not an ad mixture I would recommend you use, nor would I recommend a latex mixture or an acrylic latex ad mixture you are truly looking for 100% acrylic mixture.
i've watched all 4 parts of this series. i simply wanted to makes a few larger "rocks" for my yard. but it always come back to one step. the "Acrylic glue" that has been diluted. pause rewind. Are you meaning a acrylic polymer admixture? bc acrylic glue is somehing totally different. and what are you diluting it with? And what is the ratio please.
Yes, I utilize 100% acrylic glue, which we use as an ad mixture and also as a bonding agent. we dilute this in water as the acrylic ad mixture is waterborne. how much one would dilute glue would depend on the manufacturer who made it as there are different concentrated levels of acrylic solids that are carried or diluted in water Thanks for watching my video.
Yes, all of the boulders that I make are strong enough to jump up and down on… the square foot of surface area of this technique generally weighs in about 3 pounds per square foot. Once you figure out your surface area just multiplied by 3 pounds and I’ll tell you I’ll have your Rock is going to be.
Darn. I'll have to go back and watch part 1. Thanks. Can't wait. I'm wondering if anyone else cringed when you didn't move your truck before slinging slop on your rock😨
Thanks for the positive feedback… Yes many have commented on the close proximity of the truck to the splattering. I can assure you it was nowhere near the splatter range.👍👌👍
Hi apologies if this is a silly question but for the 2:1 splatter mix, do you mean it’s 2 parts glue and 1 part water or 2 parts water and 1 part glue for the liquid?? :)
What is the acrylic glue you're using? Do you have a brand you can list and where you get it? Also, how do you add the look of faux moss. I recently visited universal studios Orlando and was fascinated with the details of the faux rocks and faux moss that was applied to the areas within the Wizarding World of Harry Potter. Any and all help is appreciated. Thanks 👍
There are many different manufacturers for glue, but you need to locate a glue that’s 100% acrylic carried in a water-based carrier. Acrylic 60 is a readily available glue but there are many others. As far as foam us I either synthesize it or I culture it on the rock, but neither of those or something I can simply text in a common area on UA-cam. Thanks for watching my videos
I've been looking for a large natutal rock with a very shallow indented pool to make a hummingbird bath. Silly me just make a rock...and I won't have to kill myself drilling the hole for the bubbler/sprayer pump tubing.
@@fauxrock No, Thank You. I think trash bag size faux rock using a shallow serving platter to "stamp" in the depth will work. Should fit above a 40 gal oval or round buried watering trough with upright ganged 1 in pvc pipe supports with cattle panel & tighter wire mesh across the top to hold smaller rocks. Getting the shallow depth in a natural rock was the major hang up...and the drilling for a hole for the fountain pump pipe/tubing and the drain holes back to the trough/water reservoir. I can just mold the holes using doll rods and fine tune with round files.
I'm building a upper and lower pond with a stream in my back yard. Upper pond is actually going to be a wetland filter, bottom pond will be about 3-4 ft deep at its deepest spot, probably 15 ft long and 10 ft wide. Stream is about 3-4 wide, about 35 feet of run. I had a guy who who has been doing water features for years stop by and quoted me $30,000 to do the project! One thing he said, I would need some special equipment to put larger rocks in place. On average, would you say the rocks here in your video are under 75 pounds? I don't plan to immerse them in the pond, but place some along the sides of the pond and stream. Interested to hear about anyone using hand made rocks in stream and pond projects.
I’m wondering why is it that we need to have lightweight rocks to build a feature that stays put. Obviously some of the rocks that we build on the water feature are removable so that we can get to equipment and they need to be lightweight but the restaurant doesn’t. We built very big rocks in place that are moved in they don’t need to be lightweight
