I mean he's definitely been a huge twat on a number of occasions. The way he complains about incredible screaming in heavy music is just idiotic and he also sheeps right in to american politics and sounds like a fox news sounding board a lot of the time.
I was thinking the same thing when he brought that up. Although this is the first video I’ve seen of his, I was wondering what idiots were giving him hate since he seems super genuine and open and honest and has a great commentary on the music and shows a huge appreciation for the music in all its aspects. @@JackChurchill101I like Hybrid Theory more because of how "raw" (in the literal sense) it is. But Meteora definitely is more polished and it's understandable how it's a fan favorite (both of them are).
This is one of the best albums ever. In an era when bands felt the need to put out full 90 minutes CD albums these guys come out with a 37 minute record with literally zero filler.
The other person, Mike Shinoda, also has a separate project, Fort Minor, that's well known for "Remember the Name" and he also has solo work, including some gut wrenching songs after Chester's death, like "Over Again". If you want to dive further into his catalogue.
I don’t comment on videos usually but this album and LP were such a massive part of me growing up. The lyrics resonate so much. Mate, I couldn’t wait for you to go through those tracks and see the emotion and energy hitting you. It was great to watch and fair play for doing it all in one. You really dial in on the lyrics and meaning which is 👌 keep up the good work!
41:43 Points of Authority is about Chester’s childhood abuser and it really speaks for so many SA victims. “You want someone to hurt like you, you wanna share what you’ve been through.” Chester chose not to press charges when he found out his abuser was also a victim.
@@taylorosborne3383 It was an older male friend of his, it started when he was 7 and went on until he was 13. He was afraid of asking for help and only revealed the abuser’s name to his father years later. Heartbreaking stuff.
@@TeddyGreyOSChester never met John Podesta and had no connection with him. The conspiracy theory linking them is based on nothing more than "They kind of look alike".
"Idk if anyone else feels like that" there so many people that do feel it. We are not alone and linkin park gave us a voice to let it all out. The popularity of the band is evidence you are never alone.
Whole album is a banger! I was a freshman in high school when this dropped. My dad took me and my brother to Six Flags over Texas. We each brought a friend. We listened to this album so many times on the road trip. I still think about that weekend when this album pops up.
Nu Metal is basically that genre that brings rap & metal together. Linkin Park, Hollywood Undead, Slipknot, System of a Down, Disturbed are all bands of this genre
Also, people are trashing on Nu Metal because this genre is born in late 90's, early 2000. It was a time where heavy metal was becoming less and less popular, while rap was becoming more mainstream and basically taking the place of metal as popular and underground music. Nu Metal bands were seen by "trve metalheads" as bands who sold their true identites to rap just to be commercial. I don't agree with this view tho, but that's why some people are still angry or bitter against Nu metal today.
@danieltodorov3863 that wasn't my point, and wasn't even the point of the comment I was responding to, and even my comment was a light hearted vibe and nothing more. The previous comment was bringing up Nu metal bands in the genre, of which KoRn is arguably the most important. Have a good day chief
So glad your on this rabbit hole. This album is other worldly composed. The crazy part is just how much chester telegraphed it, yet even his band mates were still shocked and taken off guard. They never knew. Even being a brother in battle for so long they didn't get that real peak, even tho Chester laid it our in his lyrics. You nailed this album on the head. What Chester and Mike gave us all was a way to share and release all the pain they talk about. The album is therapy. Its a masterpiece. The more you grow to attach to these songs the more as you dive down the hole of the band this album hurts when you know the end of Chesters story. They releases 2 songs last year that were Chesters songs, recorded and finished that never saw light. The lyrics are chilling. Fucking love the man. Chester is a light for us all, even in his pain. What a fucking soul. Humans like him are generational.
ok so i know what u missed about high voltage, high voltage lyrics is as hes talking about that he is the creator of these exact type of music as LP was a new variation taking all different types of music to create the band. big bankg theology(the thing that supposedly started this planet as it is the beginning and this is the beginning of the band.)performing lobotomies(using the music to help "remove/cure"" mental health issues as they talk about them a lot, telekinetic psychology(his words are help influencing the movement of the mody without physical touch...aka dancing and moving to his words) sometimes i feel like a prophet(the creation of the bands style is what a prophet could predict for it to come true)
I am literally BEGGING you to review the Linkin Park REANIMATION album - full of remix’s with famous underground hip hop artists and rappers in the 2000s. I’m not even in that scene but the electronic and grungy and mixing elevates it
Seconding this. Seriously one of my favorite albums of all time and I barely ever see it mentioned without a ton of scrolling through comments. Would love to see a full reaction
LP was my gateway into metal. Nu Metal was my HS years. Linkin Park, Deftones, Slipknot, Korn. *Chefs Kiss* Listening to these songs given what transpired years later. You can see how troubled Chester always was. RIP Chester. Both Hybrid Theory & Meteora were my 'happy place'.
I’ve seen them multiple times in concert and even met the band. I can say they are my fav. It is always epic and amazing. I can’t explain the feeling of seeing them live. They are also the most humble sweet and funny people to meet. Edit: there are so many more things I want to say, but hearing and seeing someone experience these songs for the first time really fills my soul. So thank you. Also….lp&jayz collab…that’s all lol
"This guy" brought back LP towards their next saga, and we're here for it! Hopefully we can watch/listen together their new album... Chester is one of a kind, my fav vocalist ever, RIP.
I don't know why but Cure for the Itch always sounded like a song out of Halo, and I think that's why I like it so much, even though it's not really everyone's favorite
An extremely good album from start to finish! Specialy when considering that both "My December" and "High Voltage" aren't part of the album. They've came out as part of either the Japanese version of the album as bonus track or part of the "One Step Closer" single that came out in the UK. Mike said this in an interview about the single: "The "One Step Closer" Import single will feature a remix (by me) of an older hip hop track of ours called "High Voltage", along with a slower song called "My December". What's nice for me about these things is that I did the majority of the writing on those songs, and I produced and mixed both."
Linkin Park are the band of my life and here I am all these years later still in awe with their genius. Please please also do Meteora, Minutes to Midnight, Reanimation and Collision Course.
High Voltage was not on the original album. It's a bonus track. Neither was My December, which is crazy to me because it's possibly my favorite LP song, although I get it because it doesn't really fit the mood of the rest of the album. Anyways, loved your take on this. It's nice to see someone discovering such a classic album for the first time.
Teddy you’re an absolute gem! Thank you for sharing an unfiltered you. Great music is a cathartic experience and your genuine reaction shines with a radiance. I’ve cried to music more times than I’ve cried for other reasons. I’m sure it’s not easy to share these videos but I am truly grateful that you do! Part of the reason I love live shows is because of the outpouring of emotions both from the stage and from the crowd. I’ve been to a ton of shows in multiple genres and rock/metal has a unique atmosphere that is hard to beat. When a grown ass man, a teenage girl, and an elderly woman can scream their guts out to a song with tears flowing down their face it’s a special experience. The violence of a mosh pit temporarily kept at bay to rescue a downed participant immediately followed by the torrent of flailing limbs once the pit is clear. Rock/metal strums some deep chords that ignite the human spirit, when those moments are shared it is powerful. Seeing your spirit alight is a joy every time. Much love from California!
I knew this was going to be one of my favorite reactions when you spent 20min breaking down the 1st track. Papercuts was my first introduction to LP and I instantly became a life-long fan. Great video Teddy!
The way I still remember every word of this album, I played this over and over as a depressed and struggling teenager. This was everything to scream along to for me! But also, a great mixing of genres, for someone whos music taste is all over the place it was a great mix. Then they later did Collision Course which is a mash up with Jay Z
Nostalgic Time Machine brotha! ……..would Reanimation reaction be too much to ask? 🤣 I think it’s such an amazing companion album that was WAY ahead of its time with mixing genres
This album changed my life and I could sing EVERY WORD now on request.. 😂 so glad you enjoyed the album .. it’s a no skip album. It was always slagged off for not being actual rock .. like poppy rock. Just because of the sounds of the beat and rapping.. I almost saw them and Chester died a month before. When I tell you I balled. Such a beautiful soul and voice.
I read the line "prophet/like a new disease" as being ahead of their time, not appreciated for trend-setting instead of trend-following, therefore ruthlessly scrutinized for their vision as if there was something wrong (a disease) with their instincts. I feel like this line perfectly describes their career in hindsight. When their music evolved to a new direction post Meteora (2003) they faced a lot of criticism from fans at the time but many fans today name A Thousand Suns (2010) as their magnum opus and being ahead of its time.
exactly, great point with a "pro[het/desease" line. also those folks who were always hating every LP's album after Meteora (or do the same with any other artist) should never be considered as "fans", they are just toxic sad people who cannot handle change, maturity and growth. people with such closed mindset are cancer for art.
It's so interesting to me how different people can interpret the same song. Hight Voltage isn't my favorite song but I was honestly confused by your reaction to it. You took it as a song saying how rap should be part of rock but I thought the whole point of the song is that there shouldn't be a line between rap and rock, the whole song talks about different art forms in general and how they blend into one another (including the Impressionist line that you said didn't make sense, I get how it didn't make sense to you but I definitely saw meaning in it and it tied into the song, as I understood it) Then again, my interpretation of the song could be completely different than what they meant when they wrote it, or maybe your right and it didn't mean anything and I just assigned meaning where I found it for myself. This is why I like watching reactions and especially real reactions like yours, because I know you actually pay attention and think about the music so your reactions make me think more in turn. Great video and I'm so glad you released the full thing 😊
@@meme-jl9fsMy thinking was sort of similar. I thought it was actually referencing Impressionist art, which is the artists interpretation of what they see rather than trying to actually copy what they see, not everyone 'got' it and some more traditional people hated it and preferred more realistic art. Faces were often painted as distorted and disproportionate, so "chin checking kids to make my point like an Impressionist" because of a literal, physical change but also a change for the way they interpret things. I overall feel like the song is challenging the idea that art has to fit into perfectly structured categories, the same way the founders of Impressionist art challenged it back in the day with painting he is now doing in music.
I've seen a few vids from your channel since your first Falling in Reverse reaction. I'm only half way through your reaction to Papercut in this, and I can say as a long-time Linkin Park fan this is exactly why this music feeds my soul more than any other genre. The relatable lyrics, the stone-cold lyricism, the blending of rap beats and metal that helps me organize my own thoughts. I feel like I'm both watching my own reaction to when I first heard this album, and my future reaction to when LP releases their new album in a few days.
A Cure For The Itch = Scratch A DJ scratch. Mr. Joe Hahn is Linkin Park’s DJ. And this was a full track all for him. He’s a super talented guy, sick beat maker and DJ. And he directs a ton of their music videos as well. He was the director of their latest Two Faced video.
he asked for our fav song from hybrid theory .D i mean that hole album is a masterpiece and i love every fking sound and the lyrics are beyond everything i heard so far. its so fking deep brutal in the face. and for me Linkin Park itself is its own genre. if you would know what chester was going through you would cry on every song. love your reaction to it. was awesome.
I was listening to it with you like it was my first time too, even when i've listened to Hybrid Theory a billions of times. Great reaction Teddy! Made my day "Meteora" album next pleeeease
"Nu Metal" is the actual genre bro 🤟 named as such for blending elements of rock/ metal with genres that were still considered "new" at the time like rap and hip hop. Korns first album in 1994 could be considered the first representation of the Nu Metal sound, but it's always been stated as "Nu Metal" instead of "New Metal."" Hope that helps your evolving knowledge of this music and answers the spelling frustration you mention early doors in the vid man 😂 I love Linkin Park, they were the band that gave me my love of heavy music today, and I love your channel and reactions, dude ❤ please keep em coming and keep up the good work and positive vibes 👊
High voltage is a song Mike really enjoyed working on but realized it wasn’t going to go much of anywhere so he quickly stopped working on it. It made it as a bonus track on certain versions of the Album
I was glad I got to see linkin park live and it was a surprise because it was at a MySpace concert that this girl got free tickets to. Linkin Park wasn't even scheduled on the concert band list Mike Shinoda from LP was there with his side project band Fort Minor sang songs from his album then Chester & the rest of LP did some songs, and I got to see it front row.
Teddy I listened to this album a million times since it first came out. And their music has touched me so deep in my soul. I know every sound, every beat, every word and I wish I could hear this music for the 1st time like you because its life changing. I'm so freaking happy for you to experience what is Linkin Park.
Absolutely love your reaction to this monster of an album, makes me wish i could hear all of these for the first time again. Rest in peace Chester, you had a talent and soul that will never be replaced and we all miss you every day, fly high ❤ I would suggest a song by Talking Heads called Born Under Punches, another song that sounds unlike anything you'll stumble across and it helps soothe my ADHD as well
My man it's Sunday morning and this is exactly what I needed to start my day. I'm genuinely happy you enjoyed this album for the first time. Imo this was one of the greatest album of all time and LP came in a time where the Nu Metal was on fire and with their genre-defying sound and Chester's voice they absolutely crushed it. I really appreciate this reaction as a life long fan this really was a great start to my day so thank you.
5:30 luckily for me, it was my time and I did have it, but its nice to know now, that you have so much to find to fill up your soul and be yourself with!
i was 8 when they released this, still hits now. also early LP was mostly rap-metal/numetal you could argue they are both. later stuff became more mainstream but still hits. Thank you for giving Mike so much love, a lot of people don't like his flow/lyrical choices, calling it cheesy.
I love how you described the catharsis you get from the music. It is what helped many of us survive some dark times. Also, if you watch the video for Crawling, you see the water going down the drain of a sink.
Quite simply so of the best music ever! And you don't even realize at first how true it is! You just love the sound but later you finally hear the message!
The first time I listened to the whole album was the day I bought it. The second day it was out! I listened to it like 20 times all the way through because I couldn't listen to just one song! You are having pretty much the same reaction to it as I did so yeah I know how you are feeling!
@@traquinason1976 That's how they saved me! When I was in my late 20's I was very suicidally depressed! When thing got so bad I was going to end it I'd want to hear one last song from them! One song turned into the whole album turned into all the albums that were out! At the end of them I was no longer in the mood to die! Happened like 15 times!
@@nathanclarke2777 Happy to read you move on. This a hard work, but day by day, song by song we go on ❤️. Sometimes all it takes it's a song, a word, in the right moment to carry on. ❤️
I was 12 when this album was released, I listened to it on the cassette on repeat for months and to some degree it affected all the music I've been listening to since. The band moving on lately and getting reactions like yours give me such appreciation for music and life as a whole, things we take for granted could've never existed and while change wouldn't be noticable it would've been there. But philosophy aside your reaction make me happy, thank you for doing this. Also my bet for song you'll like the most be "With you", now I'm even more curious to watch to the end :D
During this era, there was a huge blending of rap and rock and metal. The reason I've always understood it to be called "Nu-Metal" was the influence of another genre of metal that came up at the same time--The Gothenburg Sound. The Gothenburg Sound was the European and Scandinavian invasion of American metal and into the metal scene at-large, and calling this genre "Nu-Metal" was kind of a tongue-in-cheek attempt to define it in parallel. Before Nu-metal really took off you had songs like "Tricky" and "Walk This Way" with RUN DMC. There's other early examples, but those are usually the most prominent. Ice Cube did a song with Korn called "Fuck Dying," on his own album, and one on Korn's album called "Children of the Korn." Korn also covered Ice Cube's "Wicked" with Chino from the Deftones on their album "Life is Peachey." Cypress Hill did an entire album dedicated to it ("Skull & Bones," Skull side) featuring Eminem. Beastie Boys influenced all of this with songs like "No Sleep till Brooklyn" and "Sabotage." "Loud Rocks" and "Take a Bite Outta Rhyme" are two HUGE Nu-Metal albums that get overlooked, where metal and rock bands cover rap songs like "Goin Back to Cali" (Sevendust) and System of a Down w/ Wu-Tang "Cream." Rage did an entire cover album "Renegades" that features "How I Could Just Kill a Man, "Microphone Fiend' and "Pistol Grip Pump." Even into the early 2Ks, Linkin Park and Jay-Z teamed up for a mash-up album called "Collision Course" merging both the artists' songs into one album (which you have already done). Eventually you had alternative bands like Gorillaz featuring verses from people like Del the Funky Homosapien. Its a cool rabbit hole to head down. Great reaction as always! Definitely check out the LP remix albums, they add entire other layers to these songs. If you want kind of a hidden gem, Mike Shinoda, the rapper from LP, did a mixtape with DJ Green Lantern (around 2008?) that is CRAZY. Samples things like The Doors, Queens of the Stone Age and Block Party right before he released his solo project "Fort Minor."
This album LITERALLY DEFINED the outcome of my life. I LIVED by this album. Everyone in my family was SICK of hearing this album, but bless them they always let me indulge at FULL VOLUME lmao Idk how they put up with me 😂😂😂😂
37:38 ish. I've heard that the reason a lot of metal and rock artists are so often (but not always, don't get me wrong) such nice people, is because their music is a catharsis. They are often able to get their bad thoughts out, be seen and see others, and so they can move on lighter. It's a real shame that didn't seem to help Chester in the long run.

The rapping is Mike Shinoda. And Chester is the amazing singing and screaming. They mesh together so freaking well. The best duo ever.
'I feel relieved' Exactly u got it dude.
Teddy I can't wait for you to run through their Reanimation album, it's gonna make your year. Keep up the awesome work good sir!
Came here to say this. Can't wait
Who abused him? Always wanted to know and what happened
John Podesta, probably.
Chester didn't write many of the lyrics in those days, so probably not.
"Idk if anyone else feels like that" there so many people that do feel it. We are not alone and linkin park gave us a voice to let it all out. The popularity of the band is evidence you are never alone.
Also, your reaction to the major chord in the middle of the chorus in With You is exactly why it’s in there, like a break from the tension.
Imagine missing KoRn off that list haha
@@Pixelsdg1 Imagine not listening to a band I listen to.
@danieltodorov3863 that wasn't my point, and wasn't even the point of the comment I was responding to, and even my comment was a light hearted vibe and nothing more. The previous comment was bringing up Nu metal bands in the genre, of which KoRn is arguably the most important. Have a good day chief
@@Pixelsdg1 indeed, Korn is credited as the "creators" of the genre.
Humans like him are generational.
ok so i know what u missed about high voltage, high voltage lyrics is as hes talking about that he is the creator of these exact type of music as LP was a new variation taking all different types of music to create the band. big bankg theology(the thing that supposedly started this planet as it is the beginning and this is the beginning of the band.)performing lobotomies(using the music to help "remove/cure"" mental health issues as they talk about them a lot, telekinetic psychology(his words are help influencing the movement of the mody without physical touch...aka dancing and moving to his words) sometimes i feel like a prophet(the creation of the bands style is what a prophet could predict for it to come true)
you need to watch the Linkin Park “live in texas” performance 🔥
YESSS I SAW THIS IN MY RECOMMENDED AND ACTUALLY YELPED IN JOY SO EXCITED!!!!❤❤
I am literally BEGGING you to review the Linkin Park REANIMATION album - full of remix’s with famous underground hip hop artists and rappers in the 2000s. I’m not even in that scene but the electronic and grungy and mixing elevates it
Seconding this. Seriously one of my favorite albums of all time and I barely ever see it mentioned without a ton of scrolling through comments. Would love to see a full reaction
It's so rare to add a different flavour to a song let alone an entire album successfully. But reanimation absolutely rips.
This makes me feel super old 🥺 I was in my teens when this came out and I played it on repeat on my CD player. It got me through those years
Oh you're in for a real treat :)
"Forgotten" is my favorite song, and definitely the most precious hidden gem in their catalogue
For true fans it is not hidden at all😉
The transition from place for my head to Forgotten is seamless and perfect! I can’t listen to one without the other!
Forgotten is probably the best song on the best album ever. Such a unique song. My other favorite is With You. So good.
LP was my gateway into metal. Nu Metal was my HS years. Linkin Park, Deftones, Slipknot, Korn. *Chefs Kiss*
Listening to these songs given what transpired years later. You can see how troubled Chester always was. RIP Chester.
Both Hybrid Theory & Meteora were my 'happy place'.
Limp bizkit, evanescense, papa roach❤️
@kevincruz010 agreed
I started with Iron Maiden thanks to Carmageddon II but it was Linkin Park that solidified it for me.
now that's a good reaction video, you actually hear and talk about the lyrics
Next: Meteora album ❤❤❤❤
How do you cure an itch my guy? You scratch it. What was hon doing in a cure for the itch? Scratching!! That's how I always interpreted it. Lol
bro, love to see your passion for music, it hypes me up too, that energy is contagious haha
Good news! High Voltage was definitely only on the special edition. The initial release ended at Pushing Me Away.
Mike said this in an interview about the single:
"The "One Step Closer" Import single will feature a remix (by me) of an older hip hop track of ours called "High Voltage", along with a slower song called "My December". What's nice for me about these things is that I did the majority of the writing on those songs, and I produced and mixed both."
Linkin Park are the band of my life and here I am all these years later still in awe with their genius. Please please also do Meteora, Minutes to Midnight, Reanimation and Collision Course.
BROTHER Mike Shinoda is an amazing rapper. His solo work is worth a listen
And this was their opening gambit.
Timeless fire.
Imagine if they started with one more light. Oof. Glad they started with the stuff they did.
Full on grinning watching your reaction here. Great stuff as always Teddy!
Same. I haven’t listened to it through for 15+ years. Still remember every bit of it.
Nostalgic Time Machine brotha! ……..would Reanimation reaction be too much to ask? 🤣 I think it’s such an amazing companion album that was WAY ahead of its time with mixing genres
Teddy man! You are so fun to hang with and listen to awesome music. Great videos.
I love my sister for giving me this albumn for Christmas. Middle School me played them non-stop ❤
Really Like your reaction, makes me feel i'm not alone with my passion to music
Mate, Hybrid Theory and Meteora are great albums!! Used to smash out those albums back in the day!! Miss the early 00’s
Great video and I'm so glad you released the full thing 😊
what i made out of the impressionist line is "pretending to be tough but its an act"

Hybrid Theory it's one of the best Nu Metal album i heard on my lifetime. Anyways, Meteora (Their second album) it's my fav from LP.

@@eonisone facts
first highly mainstream nu metal album, you mean.
not *the* first one, but the first mainstream one
It's a real shame that didn't seem to help Chester in the long run.
you should react to the one more light live version of crawling because it is so much more raw and emotional than the original.
Papercut is their best song of all time imo.
