Mechanical/utility room videos never get old. Thanks for the tour.
Your pre-planning is just amazng and the result is better than a contractor using subs because its a whole-house perspective not each individual trade doing their own thing. Nice job!
Thank you!
That is well done you have thought of everything and the utilities are spotless and it is always good to be prepared for anything
It’s impressive that you can make a utility room video interesting to watch-love seeing all your videos along the way. Thanks for sharing!
Great design and exceptional workmanship Paul. Have been watching you for a while now and enjoy every episode. You and Emily can be very proud of what you have achieved Congrats.
Impressive Paul! You've been a great reference for the correct way to build systems.
That has to be the prettiest Utility room I have ever seen! great organization and attention to detail! 👍👍👍
I've watched every video since you got started and it amazes me what you accomplished in just two years. You're a perfectionist and it shows.
Love the way your water 💧 system looks, reminds me of the human nervous system, very detailed and very much one of the most important systems , and you always explain how and why you did an install or build, 😊👍💕💕💕
Nicely done looks professional.
Awesome job, very clean.
Beautiful lay out and so neat.
Never seen a more organized, well thought out systems install, your choice of systems and appliances couldn’t be better, Great Planning Guys, VERY IMPRESSIVE JOB‼️‼️Vinny 🇺🇸
Your attention to detail is amazing Sir. You are 1 in a million keep up the amazing work!!!
Thank you!
I've installed hundreds of panels in my day but never a sixty space in a residential application. Two 40 circuit panels and a couple 20 circuit sub panels in a few homes but that sixty space QO panel is quite impressive. Using the nipples keeps it nice and tidy, great work.
Very impressed with your & Emily’s work. You guys make a great team!!!!!
Thank you!
Layout looks incredible. Your build has been an inspiration.
Just finished designing and coat estimating my 40x40 house for central MN. Will be a little different, all electric with ground source geothermal. All ductwork, electric and water above acoustical ceiling inside conditioned space. Will have a design video out in next weeks. Hope to have everything as neat and tidy as in yours!
Nice little house in the country. Thanks for sharing your videos, your house and your life. All your videos are very informative. Keep on enjoying your family & life.
Thank you!
Hi Paul you are rad! My name is Randy. And wow that utility room is so tidy!!! Truly amazing!
All I can say is that this is extremely impressive.
Very nice clean job !!
Thank you for sharing.
I can appreciate a well laid out utility room :)
There’s always room for improvement... already have ideas for the next one
Nice!
You and your wife are very clever, determined people and your build is amazing. I like that you are so neat in your installations, things that need to be marked are all marked :) I really enjoyed the "garage doors" installation.
The whole build had ended up perfectly and I guess JUST how you wanted it to be. You managed to get through some obstacles along the way without getting too badly affected too. Over all with the whole build it seems you didn't have too many mistakes and obstacles though.
Have you calculated the average "running costs" of the house?
Thank you very much for taking the time to video everything for us to watch Paul.
Dang, overbuilt for sure. Some day your grandkids will build a new building around this utility room. Good job.
Ha…can you tell I love our utility room? Thanks!
I would like to give a little advice, as I have a tankless gas heater as well. Go get a couple battery backups normally made for computers and plug the water heaters into those, and the batteries into the wall. Since you have gas water heaters, they take very little electricity to run. Just enough to spark the gas and open and close valves. When I was without power, I was still able to get hot water and take hot showers.
To conserve the battery, I told everyone to hold off on their showers until we were all home and we could then use both showers at once. The water heater doesn't consume any more electricity running 2 or 3 or 4 showers than it would running one, because all the electricity is doing is modulating valves. So getting people to use the showers at the same time and limiting shower time we were able to get 8 showers in before the power was restored. I don't know how many more we would have gotten.
Another tip is to turn off the water heaters or even unplug them when not in use to conserve the back up battery even more.
If I lived alone, I would have taken the battery UPS to work with me and recharged it there every day.
Obviously this tip won't work with electric water heaters.
This system is one of the most impressive I have ever seen. However, my OCD wants to paint that downstairs utility room! :)
Great job, the only thing I see missing is a backup generator. When I was a teenager living in rural Nebraska, an ice storm took down over a hundred miles of a cross county power line and we were without electricity for 2 weeks. Do you have a backup generator in your future plans? I have watch all your videos and have learned a lot from you. The end of the tunnel is in sight.
Thanks for this video Paul. Utilities require tons of forethought, and this video shows how well it paid off for you.
What brand breakers did you choose? And what grade PEX for water lines?
Nice systems, including your tankless hot water, and radiant hot water recirculation.
Thee most abstruse thing for the mechanicals is the pex tubing. Is the manifold system nice for shut off.. yes.. but its so bulky for room. I'm a copper guy.
genius man
Thanks!
Marshall, do you provide consultation services? I would like to build a house in Augusta from scratch. It must have radiant heating in the basement and 1st floor. It would be a ranch style house.
Any plans or thoughts on adding solar power?
Absolutely stunning work on all of your systems, who needs a man cave when your utility rooms are like this? I suppose I can understand not drywalling the main utility room and fully finishing the drywall in the upstairs room but why did you not take at least a couple of hours to paint the plywood white or some other light colour to keep things brighter and ultimately cleaner?
having worked as a plumber I must say I definitely would not have run the plumbing this way. Unless one has a need to run separate runs it is better to run branch type system. The manifolds are ghastly expensive. The piping is not free either. Figure it is around 75 cents per foot. So that also adds up. One or two runs for cold water and one home run for the hot water per location needed. As to the hot water no need to run 190,000 btu heaters. Figure 100K would have done the entire house not 380k Yes they are instantaneous water heaters, but for what he paid he could have put in electric instantaneous or small 20 gallon heaters to take up the load while then running the instantaneous heaters to supply the entire house . He had no problem running massively oversized plumbing for his in floor heat so he could had also run a continuous water loop system that would only run when it is called for in the point of use. Bottom line is for me this system is over built by 4 times. Must be nice to have that kind of extra money.
I’ve been enjoying the videos! On the verge of building a pole barn house. How critical is the depth of the pec in the slab? When fastening interior walls is there a concern of hitting the radiant with tap cons or Ramsey’s?
It's fastened to the insulation boards and the 5" slab is over top so unless you're drilling more than 5" there's not a concern. Here's the radiant heat playlist that shows how we did it ua-cam.com/play/PL3QM32YjSVn1Mi5I9OwmwhXNL9CAXpyAZ.html
Absolutely beautiful. I have been building my house for 19 months. First found you when I was doing my rough in basement plumbing drain system. I wish my utility room(s) were better laid out, but trying to get people in the south to understand why I didn’t want my AC system in the attic among other things created compromises.
Thanks for watching!
have to laugh about putting the AC in the attic. That can really be a dumb way to run a unit. So hope you found an installer with a bit more brain power
I am good with about 95% of the systems. I would have put radiant heat upstairs also. I think I would have put mini splits for the ac upstairs so that every room would be individually controllable. If the basement is going to be one temp I could see running forced air for ac. I would NEVER run ductwork in an unconditioned space. I would also stay away from a one piece proprietary manifold for potable water...you can buy copper manifolds that you can add ball valves to that will NEVER become obsolete. I am absolutely impressed with your work.
Thanks for watching! We thought about in floor heat upstairs too but since we use our wood stove a lot we haven’t missed it.
@@MrPostFrame its all personal preference. Being able to walk around in socks in a warm floor in the dead of winter makes me feel like a king. In my home in Massachusetts I would rate it as the #1 comfort feature bar none. Looking forward to more progress on your site.
I didn't realize you could put water lines that close to an electrical panel. I think Ky is 5' minimum.
Is there a reason that you chose the PEX crimp ring system over the Uponor PEX A expansion system??? I have always considered the PEX A expansion system as the Cadillac.
where does all your cat 6 and/or coaxial wires lead to? it probably was in one of those utility rooms but I didn't notice them
How do you get fresh air?
the water system looks like it was by a commercial electrician very nice. how does the recirculatory system work on the hot water?
never mind just watched the rest...
I didn’t see a link for Curry’s radiant heat stuff. That is something I’m interested in.

How did you guys size your hvac?
Upstairs…is your txv bulb exposed? Need to be insulated…
curious what your utilities are running so far this year.
Pretty normal, nearing the end of winter so we'll try and get the numbers together on LP usage and electricity.
Why is there two blue lines on the upstairs hot water manifold on the hot side.
Good overview. just saying
What's the dimension of your mechanical room?
How many tons are your Amanas?
Not sure that the insulation on the water lines is necessary. Pex is very resilient to freezing. See Matt Risinger's channel where he tested all the options for water pipe against freezing.
Where is your pressure tank for the well.
We are connected to rural water
Our slab radiant heat only needs to be turned on for brief periods (30-60 min) in peak winter. You may not need to set it to run at 60-64 degrees. That well-insulated house you built is your friend. :-)
Four thousand sq ft house, 2200 sq ft garage. Are your monthly utilities about what you expected? I think you said you use propane instead of natural gas?
I would have ran a spare or custom cut a spray foam lid. That’s going to be a nightmare if you ever have a water line issue with all the spray foam
Your video are nice but how and who to contact to build such a building?. Building such building where your at don't help us get in contact with someone like you. What is your suggestion ?
Hi Paul 😂 my name is Joop
Have you shown anyone from your state's plumbing board? NOt kidding- looks a picture of several hundred things done right, together. FR
thanks!
I see you spare no expense... let me know if you ever need your truck worked on lol I wont miss a thing.
Ha...can you tell I love my utility room?
Would help the planet if you installed solar.
“This will have… a door on it…”
.
Seems pretty excessive.
