The fact district 9 was originally supposed to be a halo movie and then became its own thing entirely and actually worked well is astounding. Totally deserved a sequel.
Yes, but I’d rather wait 15 years for an “amazing film” then wait 5-6 years for an “ok film”. Writing can be funky as you can get writers block for years and then even the story you think is finally “awesome” gets regarded as “so-so” when the script gets passed around for editing or peer review. Sometimes it’s better to just take your time until you get the right script on paper. Typically though after this long the investors will want to review the script first before they bankroll the movie and might send the script back for rewrites ten times… unless it’s a big billion dollar production company that has its own money and doesn’t need investment, then you end up getting a crappy cash grab. That all said, because they need outside funding, all signs are pointing to this being a banger script or it probably wouldn’t have been made.
Shialto Copley playing the badass in Elysium was cool after seeing him as the reluctant hero in District 9. Also, when Copley's head blows up in Elysium, it is one of the best on film.
Tbh, I see your point, but I like Blomkamp's work. I was a big fan of every Oats studio's release and am looking forward to him getting the space to work on a full scale project like this. Hell, I even love each video game trailer he's directed, except for that one about the shitty crypto battle royale extraction shooter game lol

Sharlto Copley is a frickin amazing actor. Way underated. He was also the main character in a mystery/zombie movie called Open Grave that IMHO was a fantastic movie.
I just watched this movie after reading your comment and came back to respond. It was funny because I thought I had seen it before while watching it and realized I had seen it before but only remembered little bits here and there. The funny part was that the movie has to do with having no memory and slowly returning over time just like I remembered I had seen the film before while watching it. The movie was OK but it could have been a lot better with better actors and a bigger budget. Copley has gotten a lot better since then as well. I would have really liked to play a video game with the same concept, it would be pretty cool in that aspect. I also wanted to add it is an Outbreak/plague/pandemic movie not a Zombie movie. Close enough though.

I don’t wanna be pessimistic but if the script is already written that could be a bad sign. I loved District 9 I hope this is a worthy successor, we’re starving for good movies out here.
District 9 is such a phenomenal film, I love how it has body horror in their with the main character transforming into something else and then being on the side of the species and seeing how bad he and the humans treated them before he got genetically altered.

I Fkin LOVE Sharlto Copely!! He was perfect for this role. His arc was heartbreaking, but most of all believable. His range is amazing. He is hilarious in Hardcore Henry.
FINALLY! It's only gonna take 20 YEARS for it to finally happen! Wikus has been waiting for Chris to come back ever since 2009 and so are we. This movie was amazing. Best Blomkamp movie of all. You want a movie that shows best what South Africa went through in a sci-fi tale? THIS IS IT. Perfect. It's reality in its purest form but with aliens. It's genius. I really hope Blomkamp brings even more of that because it's the best part. The apartheid metaphor, it's shocking, it's cathartic, it's disgusting, it's painful, it's everything. Take what was in the first one and evolve it on the sequel. Show what happened to Wikus, his family, the MNU, the District 10, the aliens. What's scary? This is a sequel to an old movie and there's a LOT of expectation, so there's a lot of risk and little to waste. If the story isn't as good as the first one, we could not see another one for decades again. Let's hope it is, positive thoughts.
I was definitely thinking Wikis should be a revolt leader too. I love how the first movie took its time with his transformation. And how the aliens started looking up to him, but he still rejected it due to him still wanting his old life back.
the aliens are refugees. i wonder what turned them into refugees. wouldnt it be cool if the alien race that was waring with the prawns comes to earth to finish them off. idk maybe it would be dumb.
That could be very interesting and very accurate to what happened to South Africa. They were colonized by the dutch AND the british, so we could see an even worse alien race wanting to take over.
They left their planet because they lost the war against the aliens from Battle Los Angeles 😂, then those aliens tracked them to earth and that’s why Battle LA invasion happened… Jk that’s just my own cross over films idea. Both movies are sort of similar in terms of the design aspect.
@WildFungus similar to Mikhail (Cyrillic) and Michael in English. Or Juan and John. I get it. I just know how it was spelled because he left such an impression on me as a protagonist. The prawns were never originally prawns, they ended up being how they are in the films due to leaks inside the ships exposing them to that black goo which causes them to mutate into a prawn and for most loses their intellegence and know how which is why most of them are dumb. If the aliens returned for all we know they could look identicle to human beings before being exposed to that fuel over months while being locked up in a ship. That was the whole point in them flying back there because the aliens are capable of reversing the change meaning thats not what theyre sapposed to look like that was the whole goal of the film and im sure that a sequel would revolve around that more than anything
Wikus was really good in Hardcore Henry too, shame he doesn't get any work he's a character genius. I get what you are saying but there's a big plot point in the first film that you are forgetting. Wikus has a buddy who is some kind of leader caste of the aliens, he's been collecting the goo to try and get the ship to work again right, he's the leader, the rest of them are worker ant types, but you would think on a ship that size there would have been an entire Bridge Crew of command staff. What happened to them all? they seem to have died /before/ the aliens show up, this implies a worker uprising or mutiny of some sort. The aliens when they come back may be unhappy with the worker revolt and may want revenge on the workers for killing the leaders on the original ship... I think this is likely to be a facet of the storytelling.

I was in school when i saw distric 9 on Netflix envelopes thats came to the mailbox, i LOVED it so much, it has been embedded in my mind for years CANT WAIT FOR DISTRICT 10
One of my favorite movies that i rewatched and kept searching for when another movie would come out, and i love how it was more international and realistic
District 9 was so well done. There was so much depth to the whole environment. Vikkus was incredible. Dudes performance was as good as it gets. 9 was extremely memorable, unlike the vast majority of films nowadays. I hope 10 can match 9’s brilliance. 🤙🏽
The reason District 9 really got to me was, that I'm South African and it was cool to see an alien film in my country. Two, It finally showed that aliens see the rest of the world. Three, It had an amazing plot that showed the most realistic way we humans would approach aliens. Lastly, the fact that you don't need big bucks to make a good movie. So take that Hollywood and Disney.
In his defence, they were trying to do this when D9 first came out, a whole trilogy i think but D9 just did so poorly commercially. Im just happy they finally get to do it. And the movie youre thinking about is an animated gem starring Robin Williams called Fern Gully. Its literally a live-action, alien world version lmao. I hate the co.parison since theyre both some of my favorite movies in my life but yeah
The Japanese internment camp idea would be really interesting to see but I'm calling it now, it might take some inspiration from that, but you know damn well Hollywood has the biggest obsession with black people and it's 100% going to obsess about them and make every piece of media about their oppression they can and this upcoming movie isn't going to be an exception.
I'd also recommend watching "Europa Report" for more of the same actor. Pro-tip: get a very nice screen/projector for this movie, it has very beautiful scenery
I detect no lie with your commentary. The actor you mention transforming to an alien was in a movie called Chappie. This actor is so underrated, it’s appalling he didn’t win a Grammy for it!
I've been waiting for a sequel to this movie 🔥🔥🔥🔥. I like the ideas in this video but I would like more details into the culture of the Prawns, especially the gangs Vickers mentioned at the beginning. Stating there were " gang" names/symbols on the doors of some Prawn residences
Best Effects ever ! Even compared to movies from 2024. Plus original plot and story Cant wait for part 2. District 9 is what Sci Fi movies now are trying to be.
I hope Blomkamp knocks it out of the park with District 10. He peaked too hard at the beginning with District 9. I was excited when I heard about him doing the next Alien movie after Prometheus, but then fucking Ridley Scott just HAD to come back. People say that it wouldn't have been good anyways, but it would have atleast been something new instead of what we got in Covenant. He just really needs a win, I will be going to the theater day 1 for District 10. On another note I do love your speculations and theories, they are honestly better than most of the shit I see come out. It would be cool to see an alien liberation turn into a full scale alien invasion, and to be fair why wouldn't they just take over once they come back? Anyways keep up with the awesome videos, they kick ass! 👊
I've been STARVING for district 10 ever since district 9. Probably the most gritty and real alien movie ive ever seen. We need more.

District 9 was so well done. There was so much depth to the whole environment. Vikkus was incredible. Dudes performance was as good as it gets. 9 was extremely memorable, unlike the vast majority of films nowadays. I hope 10 can match 9’s brilliance. 🤙🏽
Damn bro that's a fire pitch ! I'd watch that.
Finally! Also the guy who turned into a alien was in that lion movie beast. His performance was good in it if you want to check it out.
he's in everything niel does
Hopefully Niel will have complete creative control still
Thank you for this one-eyed willie!
I think you pretty much nailed the. Either way, I've been looking forward to this movie since I first saw the first one.
Would love to hear your take on chronicle
The reason District 9 really got to me was, that I'm South African and it was cool to see an alien film in my country. Two, It finally showed that aliens see the rest of the world. Three, It had an amazing plot that showed the most realistic way we humans would approach aliens. Lastly, the fact that you don't need big bucks to make a good movie. So take that Hollywood and Disney.
This guy has very similar vocal mannerisms as Gokunaru
Great vid
I've always liked District 9. I've only ever met one other person who liked this movie.
"I don’t know if it’s getting made or not. I don’t know if I even want to make that right now." - Neil Blomkamp
The knowing was not trash.... 😅 I know this because I watched it a million times
It did well commercially, but his other films didn’t
District 10 why?
Dope concept.
Sounds like this is really getting your goat. Ya Japanese? Stop looking at such weird porn ya weirdos!
I'd also recommend watching "Europa Report" for more of the same actor. Pro-tip: get a very nice screen/projector for this movie, it has very beautiful scenery
Nice viddler Mein Freund das ist Very Gut 😊
I detect no lie with your commentary. The actor you mention transforming to an alien was in a movie called Chappie. This actor is so underrated, it’s appalling he didn’t win a Grammy for it!
I've been waiting for a sequel to this movie 🔥🔥🔥🔥. I like the ideas in this video but I would like more details into the culture of the Prawns, especially the gangs Vickers mentioned at the beginning. Stating there were " gang" names/symbols on the doors of some Prawn residences
Neil should do more sci-fi movies. He's supremely talented !
FINALLY! :O
Best Effects ever ! Even compared to movies from 2024. Plus original plot and story Cant wait for part 2. District 9 is what Sci Fi movies now are trying to be.
I'll believe it when I see it. Rumors of sequels and prequels been going strong since around 2012.
👊
2009: "oh man that was such a crazy dystopian movie..."
2024: "2025 looking crazy lol..."
