    The Spurs just played 3 games together, this was their 4th game. This was the first Blazers game. It showed.

    I have to be honest. Kris probably shouldn’t be in this roster after this year. I feel like he should be further along at 23.

    Don't usually hear a lot of the technical stuff on this program so it's interesting to hear as a person who's never played basketball. Also, LOLing at the folks who talked about trading Ayton immediately now that we have Clingan

    • @jirikurto3859
      @jirikurto3859 Місяць тому +1

      People want to trade Ayton to get off his contract and because they aren't trying to win this season in order to tank. They make perfect sense. You don't seem to understand the situation, frankly.

    • @barkleychristopher88
      @barkleychristopher88 Місяць тому

      @@jirikurto3859it makes 1000000000% more sense to move him next year as he will be on an expiring contract, which is arguably one of the most lucrative assets in the current CBA.
      Moving Ayton now would be a disservice to the team and to Clingan's development. Shoving him into that starting role when he's not ready isn't going to do the kid any favors.

    • @CarloBarlo69
      @CarloBarlo69 Місяць тому

      @@jirikurto3859 You don’t understand that Rookies need Vets and there isn’t a huge need to trade Ayton’s salary right now, he’s much more attractive as an asset next year, when he would be on the last year of his deal. Teams would be able to re-negotiate a new deal and get a solid starting center.
      THAT is the better move. Clingan can’t play 30+ a night anyways, he never did in college, and that would be way too much of a load for him now. Especially with his injuries in the past.

    • @rileymcphee9429
      @rileymcphee9429 Місяць тому

      At center, we have: Ayton, Reath, RW3, and Clingan.
      Reath has proven he deserves a spot on this team. I could see him being traded, but fans would be upset about that.
      RW3 needs to be traded, but he will need to get healthy and play before that happens.
      Ayton always has questions around him with his motor and should be traded as soon as we get a decent-to-good deal for him.
      Clingan needs play time, but not so much that we risk serious injuries.
      That means, most likely, Chauncey will be switching between Reath and Ayton at the starting center and RW3/Clingan as backup. I think there's a lot to experiment with on the roster, but ultimately, 1-2 of these guys need to go.

    • @CarloBarlo69
      @CarloBarlo69 Місяць тому

      @@rileymcphee9429 Agreed 100%. Just trying to push back on all of the people that want to throw rookies out there and set them up to fail & trade all of the vets right now for nothing because they are “taking up all the minutes”.
      This is a business and for a small market team like Portland, we HAVE TO maximize the value of our assets, to trade or to keep.

      @J-nw6xh Місяць тому

      He can't jump, does not know how to box out, can't shoot, plays soft, likes to tip the ball instead of grab it with authority, is a slug trying to run. Another great pick by Joe and that draft guru Schmidt is really a stud. LOL

  • @justindonovan2132

    My theory on why Scoot isn’t playing is to force the ball into Kris Murray and Rupert’s hands to see what they can do and if they are worth keeping around. Additionally, Summer League feels similar to the G-League to me, which Scoot has played a bunch in and the team may not see much value in him further showing he can beat lower level players.

    • @paulm394

    • @jmstaffo34
      @jmstaffo34 Місяць тому

      Scoot was already G-league MVP, and he's better now than he was then. There's no value is seeing him out here, we already know he can take over at this level, and it takes the ball away from other players you need to evaluate. I wouldn't have him on the roster either.

  • @justindonovan2132
    @justindonovan2132 Місяць тому +2

    Clingan’s hands looked bad. He batted the ball around frequently when they should have been easy rebounds. This will lead to freebie 2nd chance points. He is tall and likely to get a bunch of rebounds for that, but I still want him to learn to snag rebounds more securely.

    I'm ok with the 3. He makes them in practice, and he was probably comfortable with taking it. The caveat would be, not to search for the 3. Also I completely agree, as a rookie, work your strengths, get really good at those before you worry about extras.

    I root for Clingan to be great but I don't think he is that good nor will he be. I will be saying we shoulda took Edey till proven wrong, which I hope I am. Donovan needs a mentor he can talk to on the phone or video 3 or 4 times a week, Too bad Bill Walton died. Lots of these retired big guys always eager to give their advice and opinions to a young guy if they want it. Befriend Sabonis, Shaq or Kareem or at least try.

    Cling Chong needs to stand his ground/ box out. set NBA picks, make quicker decisions/ pass the ball quickly, get those elbows up when shooting and use his size for buckets under the rim. Misses too many easy shots close and can turn those into and ones.

    I know Clingan wants to win, but I hope every game this season plays like that.
    Make all the mistakes, have a few good looks, some developmental progress that closes the gap but ultimately lose. Every loss will get us closer to Flagg or Bailey and so we should be playing hard, but ultimately losing every game we can.

    Clingan was out of game shape. Doing workouts since the end of college is not being in game shape. The Spurs had already played 3 games. Then the start of the game was a sprint to the hoop after the Blazers kept turning it over or taking horrible shots. So he got gassed early and never really recovered until late in the 4th when somebody starting making some shots and playing a little defense. The speed of the NBA game is always an adjustment anyway.
    Murray is on outside looking in with the pickup of Deni. Not seeing the urgency. Somebody better give him a wake call soon. Rupert has a long way to go. Lots of energy but very unfocused and not seeing the floor other than right in front of him. Bryce is rail thin and not seeing a real role unless he adds some playmaking.

    The armchair GMs are in full force after the first Summer League game 🤣🤣 "Woe is me, we need to trade him, we should have drafted _______, why didn't we keep that 2nd round pick, waaaaaaaa!"
    Gotta trust in the process and devlopment, folks. Like it or not, the people in charge of development are professionals and we have arguably one of the best scouters in the game in Schmitz. You do not know better than him. 😉

    The Blazers did it again. I would love to be a GM betting after them. This clown they drafted is a slow stiff and is only there because of his height. His bb skill is suspect. How many shorter players on the Spurs grabbed rebounds because he didn't box out and can't jump. How do you throw lobs to a 7 footer that plays below the rim. Cronin is a fool and has no clue what he's doing. Jody doesn't care as long as her bank account and investment portfolio continues to grow. What a joke of a franchise. What did Clingan do in college that was so great. The Blazers drafted a guy because he played on 2 title teams. No doubt Edey is a hell of a lot better and every GM that wanted to draft a center could see that except for Joe Blows
