Watch in HD!!! This is a drum play-through for a song titled 'Evolution' by Skyharbor. Its off of our latest release titled 'Guiding Lights'. This was a really fun song to play live with the band. Its filled with energy and upbeat sections, but it still gives a lot of room for improvising and messing around. As I've said about previous Skyharbor songs, I love playing this material because it has so much room for interpretation!
I tracked this video a few months ago, soon after I had just switched over to Tama drums. This is why you'll notice an older mic setup compared to some of the videos I've uploaded as of recent.

I've been listening to this song for years and I still can't get enough
holy crap that mix is unreal. dat snareeeeeeeeeeeeee
RichaadEB Thanks a lot!
+asdrummer2008 Anup... Have my babies. Or, like, have a drum jam with me... Y'know, less gay, and less impossible.
richaad likes skyharbor! Yay!
+James Van Metre LMAO!
that kick
That hihat choke's depth and control at 0:33 blows my mind. Then again the whole drum section and the song blows my mind...
Semhan Aydin it's so good such a subtle touch to end an insane phrase
Yep he makes sure to choke it at the end of that quarter note. So tasteful. It just completedls the fill so well.
I can play 3:22 - 3:52 so easily!
Me too! Nailed it first time..... and I wasn't even behind my kit, lol.
+Rui Carneiro Made me laugh haha lol!!
+Rui Carneiro I'm playing it right now!
Maybe be surprised at how many drummers can't lol.
😂😂😂😂
The mark of a good drummer: small movements, HUGE sound
+MKRocker94 That's the mix/audio engineering...
+Adiaf8oros Nah you can listen past that
He gets good sound quality partly because of how he plays and those beefy MS2's he's playing with.
And still one of the best drummers of this generation.
3:33 thinking about the meaning of life
What an honor it must be for Vic Firth and Tama to get the chance to sponsor this video
UA-cam DRUMMER OF THE YEAR HOW MANY YEARS NOW...?! SUCH A BEAST!
This album is an absolute masterpiece and it couldn't have been what it is without your powerful and tasteful playing. I am officialy a fanboy.
One of my all time favorites
Couldn't have said it better myself.
I can’t get enough of that album. So brilliant, beautiful and perfect.
one of the greatest drum playthroughs, EVER
Every time Anup hits a cymbal, he briefly turns Super Saiyan.
Fucking Dragon Ballz guys. Those who didn't get the reference.
@@amansingh-lj3tg
One of the all time great manga/anime series? I'm sure even casuals got the reference.
-__- who the hell doesn’t get that reference...
i watch this video at least 3 times a year. and each time, at least 2 times. thank you anup. lots of love
Thank you! \m/
Well, I've seen this room many times. This is the place where great drummers are born and nurtured.... like Alex Rudinger and Travis Orbin. This is Anup Sastry's Drum Room!
Precision, feel, power. Anup has all three.
Anus Pastry - The greatest drummer our universe has seen since the dawn of time.
It's always cool when I find out that two people that I like work together
- I got the doom eternal cover recommended to me by youtube and loved it
- I'm a big TesseracT fan
- I also started listening to Skyharbor because of Dan
- Now I find out you are a part of that band
listen to monuments and balance by olly steele - other material on his channel
Man, I listen to this song pretty frequently, but often times it’s just the lyric video. This is so much more encapsulating. Anup often plays so naturally that it seems far less complicated than it actually is until you actually watch it
Fantastic play through, man. Never stop playing.
My favorite off the album. :3 You, sir, are my biggest inspiration when playing drums.
Daniel Stopka Cheers! Thanks a lot!!!!!
Daniel Stopka Same here, I even set up my drums like this, it feels so natural lol.
asdrummer2008 You're welcome! :) Hope you'll come to Europe with Intervals. This time do not exclude Czech Republic :D And only your signature on my Guiding Lights copy is missing, so another reason to come :D :)
Such a nuanced and deep character in this drum section, treat to listen to on its own!
This is the best metal drumming I've ever seen in my life... Your grooves are super heavy and sooo dang clean! The dynamics are out of this world too. Such a pure joy to watch this. Thank you for this bro! ✊
I always come to see this video like once a month. Love it.
I think my favorite groove out of this song was @2:34. Absolutely great!
Still finding new things to love about this song with every listen
I always thought the intro to this song was a programmed idea... that just blew my mind!
Damn buddy, best drum video you've ever done in my opinion. Those drums sound out of this dimension. Crazy
Really nice introooo....you should back to skyharbor man, or skyharbor back to you...😂😂😂. Great job Anup. Greetings from Indonesia 🇮🇩.
I could watch this a thousand times. The feeling is massive hearing you play drums. I feel so much content listening. There is none like you, Anup Sastry. #baap
Matt Halpern: The V Neck
Anup Sastry: The black hooded sweatshirt
I know these are the sources of your power. DON'T LIE!
Just..........wow, that`s all I can say great rhythm, groove, fills and breakdowns I love when drummers show their emotion. You sir are a pleasure to listen to and watch. My favorite right now.
No joke never seen someone make drumming look so easy. Even when you hit the cymbals I feel like you have you're own way of doing it. I don't know it's crazy!
Anup, you are an inspiration man! Keep it up.
WOW just wow this is an amazing video. so crisp and sound... and i love this band.
Brother it gives me joy to know that my favourite drummer played Vergil's theme
This song is so beautiful!!!!
Yay! My favorite off the album. Thanks for the awesome drumming and inspiring me to be better. Also cheers cause i'm mixed with Indian too! woop woop. Much love from Trinidad.
Just got into Skyharbor recently. They are an awesome band. They deserve way more recognition
I am a fan of Anup Sastry and Skyharbor. This is very very good music. thanks.
Every time I hear a song from this album I remember how much I love it. You're playing is outrageous.
ANUP your the man. Your one of my favorite drummers of all times.. Never get tired of listening to you jam out.
Anup you are truly a master of your craft
I went yesterday to the rehearsal room and started practicing my grooves and after two hours, I threw away my drumsticks while cursing at my lack of speed. I think I just wanted to give up and just enjoy your videos instead of trying to be a better drummer. Now, I'm watching again this video and I say, hell, just watching what you do makes my hands beg to be playing again, even though I still have a lot to learn. Thank you Anup.
Never give up!
I love 1st pre verse how you followed the pitch of the song with the pitch of the accent crashes!
It's the little details, man!!!!
So amazing, still one of my favorite songs
I love drummers that know what they are going to do measures before it happens with confidence oozing from their veins. This guy kicks ass. Saw these guys over the weekend and can't get enough of their music!!
That is the best playthrough i have ever seen! Great job man! Cheers!
Fantastic playing...fantastic album. You are inspirational...
Finally. The play through i've been waiting for. Nice man!
Never get sick of this song, or this vid. Well done, Sir. Love and Respect.
and they say bassists have cool faces when they play.
Great groove, man!
I think what I like best is how relaxed and effortlessly you play. Such a cool style
It blows my mind how the intro riff is played by him here (and I presume on the recording and perhaps live when he was still there), but ever since he left, they've just had it on playback during live performances haha! What a brilliant drummer he is.
Perfect drum sound, Dynamics. attack! You're the man Anup
Jesus, this is magical. Absolutely beautiful like always Anup! great job!
my favorite on the album as well. Never knew this song was so complex AS! never cease to amaze me my friend. 4:19 gives me goosebumps everytime, this band has that capability that most dont
foxxrider250r Cheers! Thanks a lot!!!!!
Always a pleasure to watch this again! so inspirational and a godlike quality!
That intro still blows my fucking mind. Such creativity!
Just another level man, this is incredible. You somehow make it really technical, really inventive and really interesting but without going over the top and taking away from the overall feel of the song. Its a rare skill, keep it up!
More than complexity, you're such a musical drummer ,man.Always a pleasure watching you play.!
Oh god I've been waiting so much for this one. You just made my day Anup. Thank you so much :')
Need more like this I keep looking for more nothing has come close this song and album never lost replay value , and Anup you are sick! I don’t understand how you got this good, your an inspiration
Some of the best drumming i’ve ever seen
The energy in this track is unreal, fantastic playing mate!
This is the perfect kit in my opinion love the sound of this mix as well. Kudos!
U are in a class by yourself the best drum track I’ve ever heard dude
I'm so happy that this video is at 400 likes and no dislikes. Congrats Anup + great play through. I love how you played the beginning!
I need to give this album another chance.
It's absolutey sublime,
Increible este tipo, que tecnica, esto es un baterista! Mis respetos!
Dude. Wow, that just make me jump through the roof! Those kick patterns are insane, too groovy.
Just beautiful!
I love drummers with a solid backbeat. Nice work!
LOVE THAT SNARE !!!!, Awesome Play Through like always
Anup india’s
Best and probably a world talent
Great Ideas for this style of music, I bought this album after watching a few of you vids. Thanks for the inspiration.
So happy to find this video finally and proud to have you in one of my favorite drummers Anup, plz remind you have to come to Mexico City once ok! :D
Awesome playing and awesome kit sound.. So niceee!
I love that song so much
Your sound is incredible ❤️
Love this one!
what an incredible display of drumming man, amazing!
I can't wait to see your new projects! It really sucks about Aaron/Intervals, and then the timing of the Skyharbor announcement as well.
I know you'll be involved in ever bigger and better things, you're a really sick drummer with the right attitude and your own style/sound. Love the heel-to-toe at the end!
Plus your name is fucking ANUP.
You win!
You beautiful man. Love this so much, definitely one of my favourite songs ever.
What a fantastic player!
saw him live with Monuments this past summer.
excellent!
Amazing sound Anup. You got those mics' expertly placed, and of course well tuned drums
you had me at that intro, Anup!
Damn... The bass drum has so much off beat going on and the hand drumming part of the drums complement it so good that it gives this song a real driving feel. Whilst being pretty emotional on the melodical and lyrical part. Beautiful piece of music.
Sounds AMAZING dude. Those cymbals are so bright :D makes me very happy. You've gone to another level on this one mate, well done.
Wow. Anup that's solid!!
You need to do a vid explaining how you get such great punchy sound! Cant for the life of me replicate it im missing some obvious tricks or probably simple engineering but you do it right!
Burton Drums Cheers! Thanks a lot! Yea I really do want to make a video of how I mix because I get a lot of questions regarding that. I don't think my mixes are really anything spectacular, but it would be nice to explain it to those who are curious. I've even though about posting pictures of plug-in settings and such on my Facebook... We'll see!!!!!!
asdrummer2008 Thanks for the reply man :) yeah I mean the hardest thing for me is getting things like the snare to be so full on and punchy, its easy in SD but all the hard work is already done for you, but track them yourself and it all changes lol! I hope you get round to it! All the best mate!
Seriously that snare has more punch than Muhammad Ali. It's gotta be something about the bubinga snares cuz Matt Garstka gets almost the same exact punch out of his. Would love to see a picture of those plugins though!
Burton Drums Well I'll tell you exactly what I did in the mix... I used a standard digirack (Pro Tools) 7 band EQ and boosted at 200 Hz by 1.6 dB and at 4.3 kHz by 7.4 dB (shelf). I then also boosted at 4.8 kHz by 2.4 dB. The 200 boost was for a bit of beef and bottom end, and everything up top was for the crack of the snare. I then used a bit of saturation using the SPL TwinTube Processor, which Im usually fairly delicate with. Finally, I used compression using the API 2500 Compressor. Here's a download link to a screen shot of my mix for this video. I've expanded the plugins I used on my 'snare top' mic. You can also get an idea for what I use on my entire drum mix in the background. All of the tracks in blue are drum tracks, and all of the green tracks are summation busses (aux tracks). The yellow track off to the left is the song Im playing to.

Anup! Awesome thank you so much for the explanation! Will certainly give a base to experiment. Actual legend! ;)
my favorite version of this song
One of my favorite Skyharbor songs!!! Sounds great dude :D
That's why I love Skyharbor.
Yes I agree that snare is awesome!
nailed it with style
So Beautifull !!
Thanks for posting this!
You just earned a free beer, that was great.
Such a joy to watch. That left hand! :o
