I remember many many years ago a guy called into a radio talk show. Wanted to know if it was a good time to sell the aluminum he had been saving up for 20 years. He worked at a car transmission repair shop. He would take the bad aluminum housings and melt them down into bars. Used the old transmission fluid to fuel the melting process. He had an enormous amount of bars in his barn. I always wondered what ever happened to this guy and his small fortune of aluminum.

The manufacturers have nothing to do with it being over priced.
My wife works for a sporting goods store and they are still selling ammo at pre 2020 prices but just limit it to 1 box per customer and are making profit just fine on it. Typically a crate of 5.56 or 9mm sells out within 2 or 3 hours so it is instant return.
Distributors and retailers are taking advantage of production shortfalls and serious increase in market demand. Once the 7 million new gun owners interest in shooting wanes and people who have been buying and hording any chance they get have a stockpile of more ammo than they have shot in the last 20 years (I know ppl who have bought thousands of rounds and havent fired their weapon more than a couple times) the supply with go back up and profiteers will evaporate further stabilizing the market, it might take another 8-24 months tho.
