    Guys, thanks for sharing your experience to Albania, just to clarified Berat is at list 2400 years old city, Ottomans or Osmans came to Albania in 15 century. Berat is a treasure trove of Albanian history, culture and testament to the country's tradition of religious harmony

      Yes we know many have left to move to other places. We really enjoy Albania. We actually don't really miss much about Canada ourselves. This is how life works at times. Sadly, we move from Albania to Montenegro in a few weeks to continue our adventure, but we will be back to Albania for sure.

      It is hard on the feet for sure and when it’s wet can be very slippery! As you say, it looks stunning. The entire area of that part is just amazing. I could spend time there any day.

    It is ottoman era city not ottoman city. Everything there is done by the local people with their money. The ottomans took only taxes. Also don't call it ottoman house but albanian house during ottoman era.

    Hey guys! Lovely video, Berat is so gorgeous, I love the stone streets in between the houses...if you lived there, how would you ever remember which house was yours? 😂
    What a lovely woman who served you Raki and fruit in the museum house, I bet she was remembering when it was Communist and she had to be careful what she said, you could be a spy! But now she can relax and just be happy doing this little thing. And so nice that you let her. I can't wait to go there. Hi to Sarah! ❤

    Ottoman's did not invent nor built Berat in this architectural housing style but the Albanians themselves did it. This type of house model style is Albanian invented, designed style & it became popular all over the Ottoman Empire. Albanians during the Ottoman Empire became famous for their architectural designs & were always hired to design mosques, palaces & houses. The primary architect of the Blue Mosque's construction was Sedefkar Mehmed Agha Bicakciu, also known as Sedefqar Mehmeti of Elbasan, (Albania) or Mehmed Agha for short. Agha was Albanian in origin and had worked on many other notable building projects within the Ottoman Turkey.

      @@JayandSarah You welcome! When I said 'Blue Mosque" I meant the famous Blue Mosque in Istanbul, Turkey now ... just making sure there is no confusion with the location of the Blue Mosque. Also Albanians (during the Ottoman Empire) were hired to build & design the famous world wonder in India in the 16th Century - the Taj Mahal. The Indian Muslim Mughal Emperor, Babur... dissatisfied with the local Indian architecture...invited the leading Ottoman architect, the Albanian genius Mimar Sinan, to carry out his architectural schemes & design the Taj Mahal."

      The quality of ingredients is very good. The food can be a bit repetitive and bland, so we cook lots at home so we can enjoy more spice and some heat. We like to make curries and stuff like that. You can buy most all spices here, but you will not find places using them for menus. I've not seen a curry anything.

      How is the travel experience going? We are probably sticking around mostly for the summer, because we’re selling our house right now, and downsizing and moving into a new house in Chilliwack at the end of September. But then I hope to get away and maybe go to Turkiye Before Christmas. Plans are a little fluid right now.

    • @JayandSarah
      @JayandSarah  Місяць тому +1

      It has been the best decision in our lives. I will admit, as we get closer to having to leave Albania there is some stress about navigating to Montenegro, but I would not change one thing Rob. This has been so far the most life fulfilling adventure. It is not like a long holiday, we spend lots of time just hanging around doing normal life stuff... but we mix it up with some tourist stuff as well. We have been able to experience actual life in a foreign place. Very rewarding.

      @@JayandSarah that’s awesome! I’m not certain if we’ll ever pull up roots entirely to travel full-time, but I’m definitely looking forward to doing more traveling. Last year was bad because of my back problems getting worse, and I had back fusion surgery in Mexico in the fall so I’m doing a lot better now. I’ve learned something new too in the meantime and got my advanced drone pilots license. I did that kind of for fun and to maybe fill a bit of the spare time out of a desire to keep busy and maybe make a little fun money. Working in the agricultural sector a little bit doing spraying and mapping/imaging.
      Also tying us down at the moment is that now we decided to move and change houses and we’ve bought a brand new house, but get to save some money since it’s on one of the native band developments in Chilliwack and is a 99 yr lease, so you’re paying a lot less because you don’t “own” the land. We are currently in the process of selling our house in Abbotsford. Busy!
      Take care and keep in touch. Your videos are great!!
