what amazes me is that you manage to retain the feeling of the original from animation to sound effects, something that most animators of today fail to replicate in bringing back the old school anime to today.
Ahhh. The sound of that gun pod.
And most animators fail to do that with the 3d models as well.
Being true to form while keeping the animations fluid in 3d is quite the feat here.
I just love that squishy “CHING!” sound.
EXACTLY THIS!!
I can't help but notice that, when CGI animators try to recreate animation classics with computer animation, it lacks that kinetic energy, that "Sakuga" power.
THIS has tonnes of it! Very faithful to the "Itano Circus" style!
thanks man , tried my best :D
guilty gear strive has that energy you are looking for.
it's expensive. the studios would rather save money than spend it. i don't blame them. the fucking producers should give more money that's what
you mean the animated motion blur?
@@hygog also the forced perspective
They shooting like an A-10 Thunderbolt! Mission Accomplished.
Brrrrrrrt!
Man, imagine what you could
Do with a major studio and a budget backing your work…. Between this and your recent transformers animation it’s what we’ve been begging for for the past 20 years…. I can’t believe how good this looked and the sound effects were PERFECT
当時の作画タッチまで再現とか、、神すぎるでしょ!!!!
It's time for a movie. I'm so feeling this!!!
The simulation of not just 2d but original style wasjust amazing
I'm fine with 3D animation when it comes to mechanical things
Macross Frontier, for example, had amazing mechs but the janky aliens.

The combination of two art style done just flawlessly, I am impressed beyond words
This is how you use hightech animation technology, you try to be as faithful as possible. As only true enthusiasts understands that it is not all about the visuals and the dialogues, but just as important is the feel and the atmosphere the story is trying to portray.

Daaaaaammmmmnn!!! Roy Fokker would be Soooooo proud to call this group of bad asses his own... Well done 87render, well done.
Great job simulating little imperfections, even in the camera weave of the logo at the end. Adds so much texture/character to it.
Wow, Deculture! THANK YOU for the cool tribute to Macross with the Itano Circus style thrown in. What an early X-mas present for the eyes! Right now, as I'm watching this, I have the Macross 'Dogfighter' theme music playing simultaneously on another open tab. The result is pure SDF bliss!!!
Yeah when I was making it , I realised it is crazy to do a macross battle without the Itano circus. So Iconic so I did my best to recreate it in 3d. Glad you like the result :D
@@87render_official i like the fact you used the super veritechs so many just use the normal ones.
@@lordmech always a got a softspot for those super parts
Beautiful, even the sound effects is totally on point with the original anime, well done!
@@rsh650 My brother in christ you're on this about *transforming F-14s in a Romantic Space Opera*
@@rsh650 My associate of no relation outside of sarcastic and satirical worship of the abhrahamic religion about a T-Pose man, you speak of needing a sense of realism and immersion in regards to a cel-shaded fan cartoon created for the explicit purpose of showcasing mech designs from the 1980's that have caused legal disputes for literal decades, one of which happens to be a variable fighter taking inspiration from the flagship Topgun Air Fighter, the F-14 Tomcat, one of which is painted in tribute to the Jolly Rogers.
@@rsh650 🤓
Would you pay for something like this to be a show?
You really captured the feel of it!! Especially, the itano circus, that was great!!
This was really well done. Didn't even realize it was fan made until the end
Nothing will ever stick with me so hard as the sound of the GU-11 gun going off. CLASSIC!!
Dude I’m never a fan of fan works but YOU KNOCKED IT OUT OF THE PARK! This is phenomenal!
Those sound effects really took me back. Haven't heard those in a few decades.
This is the best Macross fan animation to date. You definitely need to make more -- and add the ORIGINAL SDF Macross sound track too.
Must Watch.
Search " The Warmonger's Legacy " on YT.
Insightful.
This is amazing. My jaw is on the floor. The sounds are amazing. Oh man. Perfect.
I must admit, the sound brought the emotion to the next level
@@87render_official Now all we need is some music to bring it all together
I'm in love. Looks like a professional animation for some type of Macross short stories
please hire this guy to remake Do You Remember Love.
You just have to love the classic sound effects ❤️
A piece of the best of my childhood! Nailed the gun sound too, I thought it was lost.
All those Sound Effects were perfect!! Really took me back to when I first began watching Macross and the like on VHS in the early 90's at the age of 6.
I loved it!!! Brought me back to 1982. Hope more people, including Kawamori san, see this.
WHAT!!! This is incredible!!
I even love that you put in the little VHS tape wobble, great work making something high tech look retro
Why did you have to mention the wobble? Now I can't unsee it and it's giving me a headache. :(
Keep doing exactly stuff like this. Every detail all the way down to the subtle movements completely works.
ガンポッドが射撃時に跳ね上がるところは
芸が細かくて良いですね〜。
This is CRAZY GOOD! Absolutely faithful to the original style, PERFECT!!!!!!!!!
You did such an amazing job it made me almost cry. Remembering when i was a kid and i would see Transfromers g1, He-man, gundam wing and Macross
Thank you for bringing my childhood back everytime i see this.
Reading comments like this is the real reward. You're very welcome !
DAMN that's authentic, this is bringing up old feelings about anime I'd forgotten I even had, well done.
Man these sound effects just transport you to a completely different era.
Love the sound of the gun pod. Sounds like the warthog BRRRRRRRRRT
:34 thru 40 is just sci fi eye candy. The floating rounds being shown in the pan shot is such a nice touch. Really seals the atmosphere of this video.
Fantastic work
Awesome work! The 0:21 mark with both the incoming gerwalk and then the tight zoom-in of the Jolly Roger is very inspired!!! Beautifully done!!!
loved this as a kid...to become saddened a little as a adult learning that these kinds of moves just are not possible in the vacuum of space :(
Wow! This video short is like a dream come true. I grew up watching Robotech.
This took me back to when Roy Fokker was still alive (yes I know, thats what I saw as a kid back in the old days). Thank you.
This will never get old for me
That’s freaking dope! I love how the rifles sound like a Vulcan cannon!
This minute alone is far superior to the entire Delta series.
Reminds lions of what they might have done 40 years ago, if modern tools existed, & boy did lions look for the tools. The most a 10 year old could have afforded might have been drawing 1 pixel at a time in a sprite animator.
Internal Zentraedi memo: "Soldiers... it will become standard operating procedure that if you observe Skull Squadron do not by any means engage the Veritechs. Especially in the case of Roy Focker and Maximilian."
A-10 warthog machine gun sound prrrrrrrrrrrr ! Love it❤
I miss this show so much!! This was my father and i favorite show. R.i.p i miss you.
If only that made a movie with today's technology!!
You really manegd to capture the feeling of the old animation style, exellent work!
I felt like I was living it again! I also felt like everything was on mute, I didn't realize how much Macross needs jpop singing! Animation was on point though.
0:08 this reminded me of some Macross Frontier scenes
(The zooming in towards a space ship)
Well during lockdown last year I had time to binge most of macross including frontier. The scene could have left an impression on my brain :D
Yo bro... She's Mine Alone... she is splendidly... PERFECT .
Jeez....to anyone that thinks this style has gone out of style...um, no. LOVE IT! Thank you!
Imagine they redid the original Gundam like this.
Outstanding work! Brought tears to my eyes. Bravo! Bravo! Brought me hope for Macross.
I love the original sound effects. Especially when the Valkyrie is shooting the machine gun!!!❤
Thank you for making what was in my mind as a long time Macross fan into reality! Absolutely brilliant work! Please make more!!!
DAMMIT, I LOVE THIS! I MISSED THIS! Of all the anime that set me up for life & taught me that anime isn't just like Voltes V or Daimos, THIS IS IT! THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS! If ever Super Dimensional Fortress Macross gets a reboot, I hope the anime studios involved would do it LIKE THIS! THIS IS HOW A REBOOT SHOULD BE DONE! And DAMN, I hope they hire YOU to do THIS! YOU'VE PROVEN YOUR WORTH! KEEP IT UP! MORE! MORE!
Wow, awesome effects, and the cgi is incredible too😳🤯.
The inperfection sells it. Awesome.
One word......"W O W".......i had goosebumps.
Macross love! My favorite anime of all times and one hell of a job with the animation. Everything is on point and wish they would do a legitimate HD remake like this.
This looks like it came out of a highly expensive 90s anime movie, great job!
some great visuals - love the look of skull leader
That scene where they all gather around probably the best thing fans ever did to Macross series. In the show we never get to see them gather around while in robot mode
a fan made video, being better than the 100% of the western animations in the last 10 years
Well spider-verse was pretty good
Bless you for not using the r word this is amazing
100% this.
FANTASTIC! Super Dimensional Fortress Macross is one of my favorite animated shows of all time. This was awesome.
I don't know anything substantial about this Macross stuff, but this make me want to check it out.
at first I thought it was an official clip, ngl this is so PERFECT!!!!
This is just pure awesome. The original Macross/first season of Robotech (don't judge me) is one of my favorite things, and this was pure bliss.
I could watch this all day.
Just wanted to say this was absolutely fire af
I am absolutely blown away by how good this animation is. Excellent work really captured the beautiful art of the 2D animation in CG.
Thank you for your kind words :D
so great, even the spent shells folating in space, bravo!
Nailed the Sound of the Gun perfectly
I'm impressed with the colouring. Really on point with that 80s-90s look.
More of this, pleeeeeaaaaase 🙏
Fantastic. Wonderfully well done. It was very satisfying to see this short. 1 minute of my time very well lived.
Lovely detail at 00:32 with the salute done by the second valkyrie and the third valkyrie at 00:37 gesturing "Hell, yeah!"
Ok, That A-10 brrrt sound effect for the rifle was perfect! Well done!
AWESOME WORK!
Holy crap this is fanstic.
thanks bro!
I'm not going to lie you had me fooled I thought this was some real Macross I saw the weapon and armor upgrades and thought good they remembered that! Now can someone make some more Macross I NEED IT!!
This looks so cool! A blend of new and classic anime animation!
One of my favorite series and styles of animation!
Wow simply awesome. I wish they would do a real life remake of Macross
Okay, this is damn good. Feels just like the original in all the best ways while definitely being something new and inventive.
I love the original battle sound design you added. They remade the sounds for whatever reason on their newer releases or when they "remastered" it, but nothing beats the Veritech rifle sounding like the GAU-8 Avenger.
Beautifully crafted and evokes the original perfectly.
I love it!!!
Beautiful. I didn't know it was fan made till the end.
Well this was just amazing, beautiful work!
the best animation so far....
damn. when the guns go brrrrrr, hits the nostalgia in me pretty hard.
Much better than most of the latest Macross
this was dope, skull squadron is dope
You're clearly at a level where you already know how good your work is so I'm going to give some feedback instead of blind praise (but goddamn, I LOVE this, I do just want to say that too). I am by no means an expert, these are just the things I notice. I hope even a little bit of it is helpful to you.
It might help, fading the opacity a bit when a line terminates akin to G-Reco. It sort of helps simulate some of the play of black against a cell photography assembly (which usually results in color bleed from the other colors, or line push where the color pushes the line inward or outward adding a second layer of banding) silhouettes
Your play with line thickness is masterful -- though you need edge-terminator blending on the rims since artists have the habit of withdrawing lines earlier than the intersecting edge which is especially clear on the intakes and some of the square-forms which are slightly "too perfect". I've heard of people using a texture to drive the likelihood of that effect so they can paint a black/white layer that drives that shader, giving it really fine control? Similarly, to do things based on the way the light hits the surface? Honestly this is your baby so I think you know what's best.
The shading feels like it needs a few "licks" in a second pass for the darker areas, since it tends to curve up and into the pale band to indicate curvature that's not really "there". I can't tell, but are you altering the render-normals of the forms to influence the shadows without changing the geometry?
The starfield blurring, the movement curves, the color palette, the play of classical illustrator effects for the explosions, fire and engine plumes is all wonderful. I love this. Magnifico.
Thank you for your feedback, I always appreciate it when someone took their time to write something longform.
The linenart is a mixture of getting it done in the render with another post effect to get them more imperfect. I still havent found a method I am totally happy with and still experimenting. I use blender3d so whenever there is an update there are improvements in the lineart workflow.
I do alter the normals of the 3d object to get the anime look. Will keep note of the licks in the darker areas.
I am happy you like it, I am currently working on another vid which is the most ambitious yet. stay tuned :D
@@87render_official Rad. I imagine you probably already know at least two of these, so at least one of them should be helpful to you for describing 3D forms. The examples are characters but I imagine they apply to lots of things.

I post this because I find when I do programming for game stuff even if its stuff I already know about, its often good to see how lots of other people do the exact same things cuz the inconsistencies in their techniques or methodologies or process often reveal a higher truth about the principle of what's being done. It leads to further refinement and you end up with knowledge that they don't have, as a sum of their differences.
