    I know I just posted, but I don’t know what I would’ve done if my band director hadn’t been like a dad to me. I had him from 7-12th grade, spent my summers there for camps, and spent all my time staying after and practicing. He was the person my friends went to when they realized my eating patterns were becoming dangerous and o had lost a lot of weight. When everything got bad it was him sitting in the counselor’s office holding my hand when my dad was called about the anorexia and self harm. He would stay late everyday because my step mom couldn’t pick me up until a certain time, it was either him or one of the other music department people would always be there. He truly was like a dad to me, I doubt that any of my old fine arts music teachers would be able to help kids not like they did then because things are just so insane. I’m blessed that I had an adult that I could always put my trust in as a father figure.

      Blessed be the band directors that pour into their kids. I had my director from 6-12th grades and he loved on us so much. He and his wife couldn't have kids on their own, and we became his kids. Our county was kinda poor, and so many kids that wanted to play couldn't afford to. He made a way. Mr. A gave so many of us that either didn't have a dad or dads who were awful, abusive people an adult that watched us grow up, loved on us, and gave us that adult we needed. Shout out to Mr. A, thanks for being there when my dad wasn't.

    Tbh, as a student, i've been in 2 classes in 2 schools, and one of the patterns i see is that the most troublesome kid has the most alarming homelife. They'd be letting their anger and frustration that they don't feel safe to express at home, in school. I may not like my troublesome classmates, but i do feel sryy for them at times.

    I was pregnant with both of my children when I taught school. The staff became aunts, uncles and grandparents. I knew she was their baby, but she did what everyone expected of her. We moved to a new state and new school district when she was in 2nd grade. Apparently we couldn’t stay in our seat and stop talking. She was always on red in the second grade. It was hard for her to learn to adjust from being the school’s baby to being a student. It took some modeling, bribing and prayers. We finally made it to green and stayed there most of the year. It was hard for me as a teacher wanting her to be perfect, but it was hard for her too.

    So true: teacher's authority has been diminished by everyone. The only person with less authority is the substitute teacher. I have seen a sub's authority undermined by a teacher in front of her students. Folks, that is just wrong!

      I just started subbing early February. I took a long term position at an elementary school, 5th grade, this happened to me. I left after a month and went to middle school. Totally different vibe. I have a great hall of 6th grade teachers, they're all supportive, they check in, thank me, admin as well. It makes the behaviors easier to deal with.

      @@anonymous.hippopotamus I changed schools and that made all the difference. My children are 17, 13 and 7. They all went/attend the same elementary school. I felt comfortable in that school bc my kids are smart and well behaved. I chose that school as my first long term position. Clearly I left. I went to my middle child's middle school. The students are different bc they're middle school, I have 3 bells a day. But the staff- mf amazing! We work as a team. Totally different. These people are amazing. We don't dump on eachother, we communicate and that has been everything for progress. I did not realize, until last week, that 4 of the 6 teachers that are close to my door, are long term. We all want to come back next year... bc we have a great niche.

    Hi guys,
    2 years ago I retired from teaching public high school after 33 years. My last day of my career was June 2, 2021. My 70th birthday was June 15th. I totally relate to what you all are saying. Devin shared about not feeling like he was the best person to with some things. Here is an example of what I dealt with my final year of my career. This was my last year- I had 2 girls in the same class that had seizures. I had a whopping training of approximately 15 minutes. Luckily for me ( and them) that only one of these girls had one seizure at the end of the school year and I was pretty much paralyzed. If it hadn’t been for two students in that class that handled it and took care of her it could have gone VERY badly for the student and for me. Anyway, at approaching 72 years of age, I am completely grateful that I was able to competently teach until I was basically 70 years old. I loved my job until about the last 3 weeks of my career. I was TOTALLY burned out ( physically and mentally). I love crying in my car and this vlog too. Elizabeth in Texas

    Middle schoolers and high schoolers caring about fairness before anything else is so real, I had an English teacher who had a short fuse and this boy in my class would always get in trouble but was always nice to other students. Looking back i think this kid just had trouble paying attention and sitting still and was frustrated with no one encouraging him and supporting him, he got screamed at by her (and I mean SCREAM, her full lung capacity was being used and everything) for standing up for some girls that were being chewed out for not following unclear instructions that they didn’t understand. She eventually spiraled and told him he wouldn’t amount to anything, that he would spend his life being a “burger flipper” again while screaming. I never got in trouble and I couldn’t help but give her sass and eye rolls after that, I fucking hated her. We all just resented her for the power hungry dictator she was over the class, if you show too much of how you pick favorites and look down on people even your favorites will begin to despise you and make your life more difficult. The kids who recorded the screaming and reported her were all students who she treated well, but everyone could see that this kid cared for other people and got punished for it by her. She lost every ounce of respect that day with our class and there was no bringing it back, the class became out of control after that even the 4.0 goody two shoes students hated her and were open about it and the whole time this woman acted like a victim when she was the one who decided to make a teen boy cry in front of his peers FOR TRYING TO DEFEND HIS FRIENDS. That was her last year teaching at that high school, good riddance.

    It's because I believe the grades no longer match the age groups. They make them more advanced then they are ready for. There is almost no play learning left in the kindergarten/first grade levels. It's all sit down, be quite work which for someone that small is impossible. This goes for all grades. I've noticed even between my oldest and middle child the huge change in work. Things my oldest did in fifth my middle was doing in third or fourth. This is also why we see this influx in medicated kids because they simply aren't capable of what's expected.

    • @venuslove-i1v
      @venuslove-i1v 6 місяців тому +5

      Yep. That's because the country is more concerned about state test standards and so Kindergarteners are forced to learn more than they are ready for to past end of the year exams. NCLB and ECS are also part of the problem, causing schools to pass on failing students so they won't look bad and prevent the school from losing funding, closing, etc.

      @@CaylaCommonFolk True. Some kids do better in smaller settings or in isolation, especially ones with behavioral challenges or developmental delay. I worked with kids who went from a full classroom setting to IEP mandated classroom and both grades as well as behavior would improve significantly. Of course, it also helps when parents take an active interest in raising kids so they don't think cursing people out is a good idea (neither will it get results).

    Teacher's kids are like Preacher's kids - the expectation is unreal. True story: I taught K in a Christian school that my elementary daughter and jr. high son also attended. My son was in trouble almost daily. It just so happened that the Principal's son, Librarian's son, Administrator's son, and Pastor's son were all in the same class (of maybe 10-12 kids total) with him - they were usually all in trouble together. Part of the problem was they were all too smart. You needed to keep them busy or they found something to keep themselves busy. But in Christian school, it could be not tucking your uniform shirt in or you were talking in class. These boys regularly had to teardown a 1000 chairs in the church sanctuary/gymnasium on rainy days and then put them all back up after school. Both my kids swore they would never be teachers after all the years they had to help out in my classroom or be at school(church) 6 or 7 days a week.

I did have my moments where I had challenges with understanding certain things that they wanted me to do the teachers because it was kind of almost like they were treating me as kind like a assistant teacher I felt like that in preschool and elementary but more of middle school and there were times. in elementary school were they were trade me Canville months like a staff person like one of them because I like to help I like to be helpful you know, and I was never the type of kid to bully another student and I have epilepsy seizure disorder and ADHD I feel like I never got to focus on just school because I had multiple things going on like doctor, appointments and different types of therapy and I’ll like horseback riding physical therapy speech therapy sensational therapy, which is where they take different textures and rubbing against your skin to wake up your nervous system and I didn’t like missing school there were days where I would have to miss school because I have a seizure or I had to go to a doctor appointment and I never liked missing school ever.
