- In this video I’m showing the process of working on an oil painting titled “Whereabout”. My camera kept failing and that’s why there are missing pieces in the video. I hope it’s okay though :)

Materials used:
• Oil paints - "Nevskaya palitra"
Colors: Burnt Umber, Cadmium Yellow Pale, Ultramarine Blue, Cadmium Red and Titanium White.
In addition I have a couple of colors that I use sometimes: Ivory Black, Celestial Blue and Cobalt Violet Deep.
• Frosted acrylic panel
• Paint thinner (odorless mineral spirits)
• Medium (stand linseed oil)
• Brushes - Detail brushes & Filbert synthetic brushes of different sizes
• Glass palette (homemade)
• Palette knife (from a local art-store)
• Paper towels (or tissues that I use to wipe the brushes)

Dear Daria, I've watched many oil painting tutorials and time lapse videos, but your meticulous method of building tones from a single point is unique and mind boggling. Most artists block in the initial tonal values on the entire face, but you finely knit the tones in as if by secret 'paint by numbers' Your painting style reminds me of 3D printing👌😉
Your portrait work is so beautiful! I also love the addition of the cityscape in the background.
I just started oil painting and doing my first self portrait blending smooth is so hard. I respect the time you have put into painting to get to where you are. Beautiful!!

I love your paintings and your attention to detail.
Because I noticed your paintings are all quite high chroma, I was wondering if the colors that you pre-mix match the reference, or if they are sort of a generic set you use.
So should i learn how to draw the portait before i learn how oil paint?

I think the key point here is to make a colour map with all the skin tones before starting to paint.
