    Hearing you describe how you “imagine” is just wild to me. I have aphantasia (a blind minds eye), so it is so hard to even conceptualize people can actually see things in their mind like this. It blows my mind, but at the same time I’m so envious.

    Awesome video, Scott!
    When I am watching you paint, I am imagining the 3D form becoming more pronounced and 'real.'
    For as long as I can remember, this has been one of the reasons I am attracted to Realism. As I watch an instructor - especially one such as yourself - or as I paint myself, that feeling - as if an actual 3 dimensional form is emerging - is extremely satisfying.
    Thank you for explaining and demonstrating. Now I am consciously aware of the phenomenon and can (hopefully!) employ this more effectively as I draw and paint.

    Thanks you so much! I am finishing up painting (3) 4'x 8' panels that the students of our school's set design club started and did such a great job. Now, it's time to paint the last panel with 3 dimensional looking spheres (balls) and trophies on "book shelves" that are already on the canvas. You're strategies for success are from another world (pun intended!). I hope I can find the 3 dimentional hole you are talking about. I definitely understood what you said how the human face (or any object is made up of different planes cutting in from different angles. I just have to find it in my mind's eye. Thank you again!

    Your painting method is awesome. But if the canvas is right, and the paint doesn't float on the surface but absorbs quickly, any painting becomes easy. Do you know what kind of canvas you would suggest?

  • @vladimirhorowitz6646

    Thanks Waddell! Could you please let me know your thoughts on indirect portrait painting using acrylic and verdaccio technique then gradually building up the skin color by glazing? I tried it and found that nearly impossible to achieve any decent result because the verdaccio layer is too dark for glazing to work and even zinc white is too opaque to apply as a thin wash to lighten the verdaccio layer
    I want to achieve the shine through effect of glazing as well as experiment mixing color optically by glazing, for example some translucent layers of red then some translucent layers of yellow

    • @michael13419
      @michael13419 2 роки тому +2

      I am super late to this but if you don’t want to use oil paint for whatever reason but do want to achieve similar results, look into egg tempera and casein paint. (The casein I am talking about is not the cheap stuff you get at Walmart. You can buy premixed paint by Shiva or get casein medium and mix it with watercolor paints to make your own, but it will tend towards very transparent.). Andrew Wyeth’s tempera paintings show what you can do with the medium and Harry Anderson painted everything in casein because he was originally an oil painter but became horribly allergic to turpentine and OMS wasn’t so easily available at the time. Acrylic is good but it hard to use if you want subtle gradations since it dries sooo fast.

    • @redangrybird7564

      @@vladimirhorowitz6646 your verdaccio underpainting should never be darker than your final intended colour, so by adding translucent paint you will darken and cover the underpainting bit by bit until you get the desired result.
