I listen to this song every morning when I get up for work. I’m a priest, so I pray when I get into the car and commute several cities over. The lyrics really add a peaceful ambience when have my time with the Lord. Some people laugh when they find out I don’t put on gospel music in the car, but instead The Killers. I’ll listen to both and I love both, but sometimes The Killers will produce something so sentimental and deep that it outweighs some loud energetic religious song. Whatever prepares my heart for prayer.
This song has touched me in ways no other song has. It’s brought me to tears many times. I know not everyone will have the same experience with this song I’ve had but that’s okay. It’s probably my favorite song ever written.
When I get up, she swears that she don't hear it Says that I'm as quiet as a mouse I comb my hair and throw some water on my face And back out of the stillness of our house Lately, my patience is in short supply Nothing good seems to ever come from all this work No matter how hard I try You know I believe in the Son, I ain't no backslider But my people were told they'd prosper in this land Still, I know some who've never seen the ocean Or set one foot on a velvet bed of sand But they've got their treasure laying way up high Where there might be many mansions But when I look up, all I see is sky Maybe it's the getting by that gets right underneath you It'd swallow up your every step, boy, if it could But maybe it's the stuff it takes to get up In the morning and put another day in, son That holds you 'til the getting's good Green ribbon front doors, dishwater days This whole town is tied to the torso of God's mysterious ways Maybe it's the getting by that gets right underneath you It'd swallow up your every step, boy, if it could But maybe it's the stuff it takes to get up In the morning and put another day in, son That keeps you standing where you should So put another day in, son and hold on 'til the getting's good
I’d like to believe “Pressure Machine” is just a day in the life of Anytown USA, and all these songs are just snapshots of the people who live there - the officer who has an affair with an abuse victim (and confronts her abuser), the young man who doesn’t fit in and resents himself, the young couple who got hit by the train, the hillbilly heroin pill addict - they all live in a town “tied to the torso of God’s mysterious ways.” And this song drives their thoughts home: “Put another day in, son, and hold on ‘til the getting’s good.”
You really need to be careful, in those pawn shops, We use to see Guitars, that were suppose to one of Johnny Cash's or Elvis's guitar, They even had a pair, of Johnny Cash's shoes for sale, $50, those black boots, that zipped up the side. They probably was? but how do you know for sure? At one time we had about 2,000 Vinyl Records, anyone you could think of, from 78's to 45's to 33 rpm. We collected them all up, all of the Greatest, 10 Cents an Album in Second Hand Store, we'd buy about, 10 of each Album until we found one not scratched up. What happened to all those records? Stored them up in the barn in the heat, and they all warped. We weren't really too bright back then.
Wow, learn something new everyday. A left handed guitar player? Do they make left handed guitars? They must do? Every Gibson, I ever saw in the old pawn shops, were right handed, Boy, if we had only picked up those old guitars, way back when. $25.00, But then $25.00 might as well have been, $25 Million in 1964! Yeah, 10 of those Gibsons would be worth something today.

What a beautiful comment - this made my day. Thanks for sharing!
Cool everything... Cool on a stick. Cool with a capital C.... I'm a 69 year old British woman on chemotherapy and I adore your music...
Stay strong girl... God always with us

That was beautifully sung.
Only a wretched hateful person would dislike this song. The Killers acoustic sessions are fantastic!
My favourite track on the album. Sublime
This song is wonderful, and different versions of this song(The getting by II, III, IV, V) are wonderful and beautiful too.
Incredible power this song has. Its profound in every way.
When I get up, she swears that she don't hear it
Says that I'm as quiet as a mouse
I comb my hair and throw some water on my face
And back out of the stillness of our house
Lately, my patience is in short supply
Nothing good seems to ever come from all this work
No matter how hard I try
You know I believe in the Son, I ain't no backslider
But my people were told they'd prosper in this land
Still, I know some who've never seen the ocean
Or set one foot on a velvet bed of sand
But they've got their treasure laying way up high
Where there might be many mansions
But when I look up, all I see is sky
Maybe it's the getting by that gets right underneath you
It'd swallow up your every step, boy, if it could
But maybe it's the stuff it takes to get up
In the morning and put another day in, son
That holds you 'til the getting's good
Green ribbon front doors, dishwater days
This whole town is tied to the torso of God's mysterious ways
Maybe it's the getting by that gets right underneath you
It'd swallow up your every step, boy, if it could
But maybe it's the stuff it takes to get up
In the morning and put another day in, son
That keeps you standing where you should
So put another day in, son and hold on 'til the getting's good

I get Tom Petty vibes for this album. In the sense that he’s telling a story for every song.

It's a real thing. Paul McCartney was playing left handed guitars back in the 60's!
@@smp4467 I was just about to say this
Heard of Paul McCartney I'm assuming?
Gulp...
Wtf is gulp? Was it really necessary to comment such a stupid thing.
Wow... Bruce Springsteen called. Wants his sound back. The killers fell off.
