Discover the natural goodness in your own backyard through this video-series foraging for wild edibles and creating easy to make cocktails. Nocino is a liqueur made with toxic-to-plants, yet delicious-and-nutritious-to-humans black walnuts! While it's a super pungent and strong liqueur, it makes a great mixer for other cocktails.

I picked my walnuts when they were about 1/2 the size in this video. They are easily cut. I have the Nocino "marinating" now.

They are very easy to cut before they are ripe! The best time for harvesting (prime flavor as well as ease of cutting) is late June, around June 23rd, but of course, you could harvest earlier too! So glad you're making some - it's so fun!

So glad to hear it! The ones in my area (Zone 7b) finally have harvestable walnuts, so it's a good time to keep your eye out for them. Good luck!

Thanks for sharing, I didn't know how to differentiate the black walnut from the English walnut, looks like I have both in my backyard, will try this out.

Thanks for your video, question have you ever gotten a rash or hives because I just used gloves and realized the black walnut green hulls touch my side arm and felt itchy and had one hive bump, any recommendations or experiences or what to expect! Is it normal ? Also seen worms inside of it while there still green on some of them and is it safe ? I plan to extract using vodka

Hi! Do not worry - some people do get itchy when touching the inner hulls. It'll go away. If it gets crazy, then you can take anti-inflammatories to help. Anti-itch salves will also help. If there are worms, I don't recommend using those. The walnuts for nocino should be from the tree, ideally, not from the ground. You can look for holes when harvesting too and avoid walnuts with holes in them. And the extraction with vodka should be great! That's what I like to use mainly with this since vodka can be really cheap and the walnuts will really flavor it. Good luck!

@@theartofecology I was able to find a lot of green ones from ground you think it should be ok using 95% vodka to extract or is it risky because of worms
