Artists like Rhiannon Giddens move us forward. What a stunning song, and now childrens' book. I hope many adults utilize this and read it to their kids and/or students.
I saw this picture book in the library today and brought it home because I knew my mom and daughter would love it too. This picture book is a memorable history lesson with illustrations that bring the story to life. And how clever to include the link to the song 👍👍 I'm going to purchase this book and make it a part of my picture book collection.
Wow this was incredibly moving! The visuals, the voice, the lyricism...from start to finish it was just beautiful. Thank you so much for sharing these stories that have tried to be erased.
Such a beautiful song and children's storybook. It just arrived by mail to our speech clinic. A story of so many that must be told, heard and listened to. With much thanks. 🇨🇦 🍁
Every time I hear another song from this musical goddess, this Muse, I am once again, blown away by her voice, music and everything she brings to her song. Just gorgeous.
It's so interesting, because the images that I visualized along with the song always spanned the decades. For example, for "so you burned it down", I always thought of Tulsa in 1921, and for "you came and took my song", I usually thought of Elvis. Of course, the lyrics can apply to a lot of the history, so I did know that it was applicable to a lot of events and time periods, but the idea of using the image of one family to illustrate these ideas and having them all happen in a relatively confined timeline is still accurate and very interesting and personal.
I think Elvis is an example of a valid and unique interpreter. As far as "taking songs", one of the examples of that would be Pat Boone. There's a podcast "History of Rock in 500 songs" that covers this (at least in the rock genre and previous influences of it). It's a project still in process, as the podcast is not up to 500 songs yet 🙂
Thank you so so much! I just borrowed this book from the library to read to my son at night and my goodness, I'm blown away! I caught the rhythm quickly but to be gifted this link and listen to your voice. I'm soo moved and so grateful for your gift of story expression and song expression ❤
I juste received an alert by mail for a tour in Europe. Saddly there's no dates in France (mostly UK and Italy) ! I really hope to see you there some time !
Her deeply personal struggle to find out what might be her identity is touching, in today's world where, so sadly, a person's origin is the only thing that really matters.
The tiny 2% Nigerian in me lives loud and strong whenever I hear Rhiannon. I have followed you since the North Carolina chocolate drops and your music and skill just gets better and better. Thank you so much for speaking to that tiny part of me.
@@EEEEEEE354, yep, 98% European, 2% Nigerian, and All American Southern gal. Her North Carolina Chocolate Drops music was similar to what I grew up on. Stunning woman and voice.
I love you and your music. I'm concerned about your health. You look as though you could be on some sort of vegan diet. Have you heard of the 90-day beef butter bacon and egg challenge? Humans are not herbivores. We don't need to eat plants. We are much healthier when we don't. Vegetable oil sugar and wheat are exceptionally bad for our health. Beef and saturated fat are the best things for our health. A person could probably live on canned sardines, but we can't live canned peaches. Let me say it again I love you and your music. You are a very beautiful young woman. I apologize profusely for my negativity.
That voice can move mountains. Sadly, I haven't heard her in a long time but she still affects me the same as the first time I heard her music.
She streamed at least one maybe two lockdown performances 2020, 2021 from Ireland. Likely still online here at YT.

God, this is beautiful, and powerful. I'm really new to Rhiannon's work, but being moved to tears just seems to come with the territory.

Such an elegant, painful statement of brutal theft and enduring courage. Thanks Rhiannon for another gem.

What a powerful song. It hits just like Purchaser's Option. Thanks for another song filled with history, lost justice and human willpower.
My granddaughters will receive the book and song from me ASAP.
Beautifully played and sung, the song is definitely thought provoking.

Yo Yo Ma has good taste. Rhiannon is a treasury for sure.

Rhiannon Giddens singing "I will not be moved" may just build a movement.
Honestly, this is so beautiful I don't get why it's so underrated. It's one of the best I listened

I don't find it as a very special voice... sounds rather like kids lullaby
Rhiannon seems bitter about a life she never actually lived... slaves seems to fill her mind more than it should for 2023
Referred by @shopobjetdart wonderful illustration ❤❤❤
