wtf!ive been working on ford cars for 25 years now.you just dont cycle a key and listen for fuel pump that doesnt run and say "yep, needs a pump and a new tank""lets pull that out on a gravel driveway" are you kidding me!these guys couldnt fix a sandwich!
Very poor ownership. The worst thing you can do to any vehicle, is let it sit dormant for years on end. This car is his "pure love affair"... you could have fooled me! Looks like that car cover showed up about 15 years too late. My dad bought a 1990 Mustang GT brand new in 1990. It was a daily driver for 9 years. Spent plenty of time in snow and road salt. It's not perfect, plenty of dings and dents on the body. However, that car still runs perfect and has nice shiny original paint. I completely understand having a kid. At that point in time you either sell the car, or prepare it for storage. Get a car cover, a battery maintainer, and some fuel Stabil. Drive the car around the block once every couple of months and do an oil change once a year. That will prevent many of the problems associated with letting a car sit. Here's a tip for doing a fuel pump swap. You better double check that it is working properly before you go putting the tank back into the car. Keep in mind the fuel pump is powered through a fuse-link wire. Many people replace the fuel pump only to later find out the fuse-link is burned up. Also, plenty of fox Mustang fuel pumps will not fire because the inertia switch in the trunk has been triggered. That inertia switch cuts the power to the fuel pump during an accident. Sometimes that switch is accidentally triggered and cuts the battery power to the pump. I didn't see them check that either. Always confirm that you have power to the fuel pump before you go through the trouble of removing the whole fuel tank. At least they used a high quality Odyssey battery. Odyssey seems to be overshadowed by Optima for some reason.
@fwh79 you forgot about the fuel pump relay under the seat or near the passenger side fenderwell. If that goes out ain't shit happening with a fuel pump on older foxes.
Not everybody is a gear head going to store their car all properly like you say. You can tell he's not a mechanic type. He drove it, he got over it, started driving something else and didn't bother with it - at least he kept it. I'm sure you can understand that can't you?
How do you buy a brand new Mustang GT and let it get to that condition that shows me you have no passion for that car for it to look like that ! find somebody who found one and bought it off a guy like this and really has a passion for the car and fix that guys car that’s my two cents.
His wife set that up I bet. He looked really surprised and unprepared for when they showed up. Pretty cool, now she can't keep him at home or get the lawn mowed because he's either out driving or doing more to it .
