- (Highway Code Rule 145 states:)
You MUST NOT drive on or over a pavement, footpath or bridleway except to gain lawful access to property, or in the case of an emergency.
Westgate is so narrow (as narrow as 4.7 Meters), it "cannot legally function" as it cannot accommodate large vehicles, which forces drivers frequently in to having no alternative than to illegally drive on the pavement.
Despite it being an Criminal Offence to drive on the pavement and a clear Risk to Life to pedestrians, and despite being repeatedly contacted by residents, East Riding of Yorkshire Council refuses to take measures to prevent the pavements on Westgate being used as an extension of the carriageway, or restrict Westgate being used by large vehicles.
To make matters even worse, East Riding of Yorkshire Council had the nerve to reclassify this road from a "B Road" to an "A Road" when this road does not meet clearly laid out Central Government Road Reclassificaton Criteria.
