    Nicely explained :)
    We actually have names for some of the techniques you did:
    Second one (at 1:14): Hiji nage (elbow throw)
    Third one (at 2:08): Sumi otoshi (corner drop, or at least that's what I've heard it translated as)
    Fourth one (at 2:20): Uchi (inside)

    This seems to be a very diverse set of techniques. What makes a kokyo nage and kokyo nage?

    • @josephmalone253
      @josephmalone253 Рік тому

      Any breath technique is a kokyo like any pressure point technique is a yonkyo.
      I do kokyo like his ude kime nage. I trained this way. I also was taught ude kime nage the way it is usually shown as more of arm extended.
      His version where he opens up as a door is really tenchi nage or heaven and earth throw. He called it his "receptive one".
      The last one he did before the montages looked like sokemen nage which is "side escape" an alternative version of iriminage.

    One form of kokyo nage (you started from) looks like Sokumen irimi nage. Could you please describe the differences between them?

    • @josephmalone253
      @josephmalone253 Рік тому

      There are different names for the same technique. He did tenchi nage (heaven earth throw.. he called it receptive kokyo) and sokemen nage (side escape).
      Sokemen is similar to irimi nage except you use alternate arm. He cross grabs your right wrist with his right hand so you cannot free your right hand. You pull your right hand back drawing him forward. You raise left arm up his chest to arch his back and throw him. Because he is grabbing your wrist already we do not free it because we want to keep that connection, it saves us from having to grab him and we know where his hand is and he is preoccupied with holding you he cannot hit you with that hand.
      A different sokemen would be he is running towards you and you do either irimi normally or you parry down his right arm with your right arm and do the irimi but with left arm instead of right.
      The names differ mostly from which school you study. I do Seattle area Aikikai but was before Honbu style. We do not call it sokemen but that is it's name. Different styles have different emphasis as to use of atemi and combative mindset.
      My sokemen is used against right cross defense and looks different from his but mostly because of the line of attack and angle the ki of the pinch is traveling (straight line to head).
      I would say they are the same. In general but especially in aikido look for similarities between techniques and different martial arts rather than differences. The attitude is to find a common theme or connection rather than be divisive. The principle of ki and redirection, one point are all present in the various forms of kokyu so it is how tou are blending with your opponents energy that dictates the superficial cosmetic differences in appearance. The result is the same.
      I think most of these defenses were designed around a samurai hand being held to prevent the drawing of his sword and the need to throw his opponent off and then be able to pull out his sword.
      Moves like multiple attackers or being grabbed from behind is all based on this. The samurai would just want to throw the guy then pull out his sword. Kokyo is him doing just that. It is not to cause harm but rather down his opponent so he can draw and finish. Aikido retains the weapons forms and movements of kenjutsu.
      However you interpret the moves for modern defense is adaptable.

    Can you do an iriminage tutorial please! its really hard for me to fight a taller guy and put his head on my shoulder and move to unbalance him

      I'll make an Irimi Nage tutorial soon. I just won't include your specific question about putting the head on your shoulder. Maybe in the next video?

      I am short and had trouble learning sankyo against taller opponents. They always mispartnered me lol.
      For irimi against taller you can do ura and pull him forward bending him at the waist. When he tries to straighten up you do irimi and arch his back. I know nothing of head on shoulders.
      Or you can do a sokemen version where if he is coming at you a) enter b) blend with right tegatana c) cut down and catch his wrist d) tenkan to ura (shoulder to shoulder) and slide left tegatana up chest to his chin pushing head up and tilting his head back causing his body to arch. Step through and complete the technique by throwing with left tegatana and ending in catching exercise (low front stance with hands at side touching like a triangle or diamond).
      Taller people tend to do irimi version of iriminage as it is more direct, shorter ppl ura version of iriminage as outside his guard is easier to pull him down and control him and manipulate his posture.

      When someone finds a passion again, like Rokas did with his continued martial arts journey, it reflects on someone's vibe. Being stuck (whether dream-wise, romance-wise, finance-wise etc.) will age someone quicker than anything. Rokas looking younger now is a testament that he's going in the right direction.
