A 2 week elimination diet helped heal my eczema outbreak in 2020, since then I've been able to gradually introduce more foods into my diet without my eczema breaking out. Love your philosophy, keep up the great work!

@@nigoogwu155 Most things. The elimination diet that worked for me is below (8 core components & then some flexibility for you to decide what to add). I made use of a skin health diary to track how this diet changed my skin, and other markers of health daily (feel free to get in touch and I can send a template, it is simple but can be overwhelming to do yourself - naturally healing eczema felt like a full time job for me. I had to analyse and reconsider so much of my diet and lifestyle) . Everyone is different, so although this should be a good starting point for most people, you should also keep a skin health dairy to monitor how changes in diet and lifestyle affect you:
      1. Home made bone broth (I rotated mainly chicken, beef, veg & lamb). I would add some rice noodles to bulk it out and make it a meal (tip: find a brand with only rice and salt as ingredients if you can). Relied on my pho making skills - look up a recipe for it online, there's heaps!
      2. Cold pressed juices. People talk about pure celery juice, but I always added some apple, lemon and ginger to balance the drink and make it more enjoyable. Then you can experiment and add or take out ingredients including beetroot, carrot, parsley, mint, cucumber, fennel etc. I started out buying these at a local market, but then was so invested in the natural healing process my partner ended up buying a cold-press juicer for home (yes it was expensive but very happy with this investment). Always add lemon and ginger ;)
      3. Leafy greens. Easy to digest soft greens like lettuce and salad mix compared to something like kale, broccoli etc.
      4. Replaced coffee with lemon water/tea. Would rotate with reishi mushroom tea sometimes.
      5. Blueberries as a snack food.
      6. Naturally fermented sauerkraut. Can make yourself if feeling up for it - many recipes are available online.
      7. Used particular fats for cooking such as MCT oil (basically coconut oil from my understanding), beef/lamb tallow. I'd go to the farmers market to source bones from pasture raised animals to make bone broths, cool them in the fridge overnight to solidify the fats on top then keep these in the fridge for use when needed.
      8. Pumpkin
Other foods depending on how you feel and also your food culture. I don't think I gave up rice for a very long time. I added seaweed and mushrooms.
What's as important is what you don't eat. Keep in mind that I followed the above diet for a short period of approx. 2 weeks, then began re-introducing foods one by one and monitoring changes.
Note: I followed Rob Stuart's 3 phase guide to naturally heal eczema for the most part and it worked for me. Check him out on UA-cam & let me know if you have any questions.
      Good luck!
      Julian

I make diet, I use allergies pills every day and every night, a lot of cream, even savila, my back, my arms every part of my skin was ichy and red, I was so sad and frustrated, one day a good friend visit me and take me to the beach and I forgot about my sun block, I burn all my skin, that night I got fever... but my skin get better... just in the line of the bikini still have it, so I learn that maybe the sun and salt water helps a lot. It's actually the antibacterial effect of UV rays. Will work in the summer, but probably not in winter + sunlight (and harsh weather too) can irritate damaged skin if left unprotected. My advice is to put some gentle antiseptic cream for a start (based on colloidal silver or witchhazel or snail slime or dead sea salt... there are many options available) and while the cream is fixing the skin, try to work on finding the root cause of the eczema with the help of a good naturopathic doctor.

So long story: severe eczema 85% of body, allergist found long list of food allergies. Eliminated all of those plus foods with salisytic (sp) acid. Eliminated 40+ years of psoriasis and eczema (may-dec 2021). Going well until April 2023 when butterfly face rash occurred, throat and inside arms. More strict with foods-eliminating homemade ice cream (treat) less chicken more pork and salmon, adding more veggies (allergic to some and all nuts), etc. also developed sensitivity to sun and heat. Getting ready to give up last indulgence-organic French Chardonnay. Don’t know where else to turn except a psychologist. Any insights would be helpful. Have your 10-day detox. Thank you!

I had an eczema flare up that lasted me for four months. I was prescribed steroid cream & told to use it only when I needed it most, as it had side effects for long term use.
I developed TSW, which stands for tropical steroid withdrawal. The flare up from that was worse than my previous eczema flare ups. So I weaned off it. And decided to go on an elimination diet, started a probiotic, & vitamins. I also started including smoothies, mostly veggies, chicken that was only baked, sauteed or boiled. No more milk, carbs, sugar desserts. Finally my eczema to clear up, & after a few weeks my eczema is gone, for now. 🥲

Thank you so much for sharing. I took a single dose of a generic version of Fluconazole (as Diflucan costs thrice as much in my country) and within 8 hours, the persistent itch at my groin area completely disappeared and the itch on the rest of my body was considerably reduced. I have been struggling with eczema for more than two decades and tried everything from steroids to traditional chinese medicine but the eczema kept recurring. I will be taking steps to improve my gut flora through probiotics and perhaps caprylic acid supplements to control the yeast overgrowth that seems to be the main problem and hopefully I will see results in a few months time.

@@mr_red13 I took probiotics, vit D, caprylic acid for a period of about 4 months, it helped a little but the eczema still recurred. Right now my eczema is under control - I've cut a lot of food out of my diet:
      -Half-cooked beef
      -Pork
      -Shellfish
      -Peanuts
      Those are my main triggers.
Also, I avoid food which affect my digestion and cause gas and bloating:
      -Purple cabbage
      -Capsicum/Peppers
      -Raw onions
      -Eggplant
      -Black beans
      -Coffee
Recently I've also cut tea and sugary drinks and replaced them with wheatgrass and chaga tea to help improve fatigue, sleep quality and stress levels, because my eczema gets triggered when stress levels at work are high.
I hope this was useful, good luck on your journey to healthier skin :)

Like you I had Hypothyroidism and have dry skin, so the first thing I'd look into is the Thyroid levels ( and all hormones, if you're not already ) since a symptom of that is dry skin. ( Sleep is important as well. ) Prednisone is a corticosteroid like Hydrocortisone so that's why it helps the inflammation, the issue is it doesn't solve anything but it can still be very helpful. UV rays calm down inflammation and reduce bacteria so I suspect that's why it gets worse at night but I can't say for sure.
Other than Hypothyroidism however, baseline dry/flaky skin indicates a skin barrier defect such as Filaggrin loss-of-function mutations ( or other barrier genes ). Filaggrin is a protein that binds to Keratin in the skin, so it basically means the hydrophobic, anti-bacterial, anti-allergen barrier is compromised, genetically, allowing water in the skin to evaporate and allergens to invade. Some of us don't produce enough Filaggrin proteins or we can produce defective variations of them. I have been looking but if you can find any kind of lab that tests for genetic skin barrier defects that's a very good idea.
So there's 2 main things required to go about this. Play the tedious game of identifying allergens/triggers, environmentally or orally ( I do badly with cats and tap water on my skin ), and increasing the function of your own skin barrier. As the skin barrier improves, sensitivity will logically decrease as less will penetrate the skin. There are a few barrier repair creams such as Eucerin Complete Repair and Cetaphil Restoraderm. Sodium PCA, Urea, Ceramide-3 are all ingredients you typically want, unless of course you have a reaction to them which is possible with anything. For scalp dermatitis I use Neutrogena T/Gel Coal Tar Shampoo. For a natural route in creams I found good anti-inflammatory results with Indigo Naturalis, a natural blue pigment and antioxidant - small amounts in any cream it'll mix with.
Eliminate/replace all soaps that are not pH-balanced at least, because there are genes ( KLK-5, KLK-7, KLK-14 ) dedicated to shedding skin ( desquamation ), as well as bacteria that irritate the skin, and they are both active at an alkaline pH. Traditional soaps are unfit for any skin type whatsoever anyway, but especially for those with dry skin already, and we're just realizing this now and in recent years. I use Live-Clean for hands and Cetaphil and Eucerin both have barrier repair lotions/body wash - the Cetaphil Restoraderm and Eucerin Complete Repair. There's some controversy I feel regarding Petrolatum ( Vaseline ) but honestly, that took my dry skin to the next level of hydration following a moisturizer, I used to wake up with flaky skin in the morning no matter what, but Petrolatum holds well, and is extremely inexpensive, again assuming there's no allergy to it. Personally I find it quite soothing. If you're not into Petrolatum you can try any other occlusives like Beeswax, Candelilla Wax, or Carnauba Wax, but they're all more expensive.

@@user-je2yq7ru8w Thank you for the different suggestions. One of the doctor's at Kaiser said, use Dove soap (no scent). I changed my detergent to the Whole Foods brand (no scent) I changed the bounce thing to put in the dryer. I bought Cotton Balls( no scent) I do have a small dog in the house. I don't touch him or anything. But he does shed. He sleeps with my exhusband, next room. About my hypothyroidism, my doctor bumped up the dosage. But, it's still the same. I use TRIAMCINOLONE ACETONIDE CREAM. 0.5%.. I was using the same cream but it was 0.1%. I only use it when I get out of b.v the shower. Another doctor from Stanford said to use Coconut oil/Natural Coconut. I bought it too from Trader Joe's, I put it on sometimes at night when the itching gets really bad. I drink alot of water. I'm staying away from dairy. I'm staying away from carbs. I'm trying to eat more Salmon,Fish and Seafood. It's like, nothing is helpful. I dont wear shorts, skirts or short sleeves anymore. I'm so disgusted with myself.

@@romanalazalde227 You mean the Thyroid levels are the same even with a higher dose? -- Yeah try using a thin moisturizer and once it absorbs use an occlusive, again any natural wax or Petrolatum/Paraffin Wax. Coconut oil and other oils ( never olive ) are good but they're not occlusive and they're not hydrating, they're just 1/3, they're just emmolients, meaning they soften and soothe but they won't hold or deliver moisture well. A true moisturizer is emmolients, humectants, and occlusives all together. "Petrolatum in a minimum concentration of 5% reduces TEWL ( Trans-Epidermal Water Loss ) by more than 98% followed by lanolin, mineral oil, and silicones which only reduce TEWL by 20-30%."

Just being around the dog could be enough to trigger an itch, my sister had the same problem with her cats being in her room, just walking on her bed etc. I told her to ban them from the room and she said it helped, + an air filter.
I also tried different detergents and found nothing helped. I tried the whole dieting thing too, whole food, raw food, and it's all BS except **maybe** for milk - unless you have a reaction to said foods in up to 2 days. No food is really "bad." Diets mislead me for a long enough. It appears people are experiencing allergies to foods and demonizing those foods as a whole. In fact, by eliminating foods for a year some people with AD suffered anaphylaxis upon reintroduction.
"Of these 54 patients, 25 (18.9%) with no previous history of immediate-type food reactions developed 31 immediate-type food reactions including anaphylaxis in 30% of reactions." "With the increasing evidence that early introduction promotes tolerance in the young child, and that food elimination may result in loss of tolerance with subsequent development of immediate-type food hypersensitivity and anaphylaxis, patients and families need to be aware of these possible unintended consequences of prolonged food avoidance and elimination diets"
I have dry skin all over, even where there is no rash or itch. I used cortisone for a long time but I wanted to get off it since there are side-effects to steroid creams long-term. In the beginning I was bathing every day 15-30 minutes with 1-2 cups of vinegar, followed by moisturizer. Right now all I do is stay mindful of and avoid exposure to high pH substances ( including tap water ), if I am exposed I moisturize immediately ( everywhere after shower ). In the morning and at night I used to only use Eucerin Complete Repair 10% + Indigo Naturalis, which helped significantly but I still needed cortisone sometimes as I would still get inexplicably itchy and damage my progress cyclically. Once I bought *Neova's Copper Tissue Repair* to follow the other things, I could FINALLY stop cortisone completely. Only recently I started using Petrolatum and I further solved the flaking skin overnight to the morning. Finally the dry/rough patches are starting to fade after a year and 3 months of focus, no steroids. But to be fair it's a lot of testing and experimenting. Oh and I eat whatever the hell I want except Cashews because they do not like me. The only thing I'll suggest in terms of diet is eat fermented foods like Sauerkraut, Kimchi, etc. And even then that's more of an overall health and digestion thing.
I can't post links because depending on the channel I post on UA-cam can simply block my message ( some kind of security feature? ) - I can see it but others will not, so I wouldn't know. So I'll just say - google these terms.

Hi Dr. Hyman. For a year, I have been on a vegan 80% and paleo diet. I cut down on dairy, meat, sugar, glutin, nuts, etc. I have struggled with moderate to severe scalp inflammation/follicultis since a reaction from salon visit (3 years,,,worst last year). I drink organic green tea regularily in addition to water with lemon/cucumber. The diet has only improved my digestion, energy, and stopping weight gain BUT no improvement on my scalp.
Dermatologists have placed me on antibiotics, antifungal pill weekly, steroid cream, vitamin d cream, and such yet nothing really worked. If it did.....it was minor. Urate crystals were found on a ct in my foot/high uric acid levels. Hypothyroidism just above the Low line. t3 is a bit low. On synthroid 300 mcg. On allpurinol. Ramipril 10 mg lately. Very high c-reactive protein. Borderline low cortisol in evening. Please help. I am suffering with this pain losing most of my hair causing bald spots. Also swAbs have been negative (normal microflora and cornyform bacteria no growth) and biopsies showed fibroma and high neutrophils and leukocytes. Plus I don't really have acne on my face. I am 32.

Try the book called ‘The Eczema Detox’ I’m about to try it. I saw a ton of positive reviews on it ( got it off Amazon ) A lot of the healthy foods we eat can still contribute to a salicylate or amine sensitivity which can trigger eczema-it’s supposed to help you eliminate those foods and slowly reintroduce them back into your diet so you can figure out your own triggers.
