  • I know I like to look at a lot of crazy stories in NASCAR, controversies, scary accidents, tragedies, and things like that. But this week, we’re going to take a step back into something a little more tame. So sit back and relax as we dive into NASCAR’s most boring New Hampshire race, ever.
    Now, when you think of New Hampshire races, they’re not always the most exciting. A lot of them are pretty forgettable. I mean the races haven’t been too bad in recent years. Although some attributes of the track can be comparable to others, the flat one-mile oval is pretty unique. It’s hosted many NASCAR races, hosting the Cup series since 1993. But one race sticks out from the others - the 2000 Dura Lube 300. As many of you may recall, this is the race that Jeff Burton led every single lap in. So we’re going to dive into it.

    Yeah, 2000 New Hampshire was the worst year for the track, with 2 deaths. I get that these were security measures and stuff and it is still incredible how Burton was able to lead EVERY lap, but the race is pretty boring and if it wasnt for Burton, it wouldnt be remembered for anything. Initially it was Bob Bahre, who initially owned the track when it first got two races, who wanted the second race. And they did eventually get it, at the expense of one of North Wilkesboro losing a race. Between that and Texas Motor Speedway taking the other North Wilkesboro race, New Hampshire Motor (then International) Speedway played a part in the downfall of one of the sport’s founding tracks.

    • @BlackSheepRacingMaine
      @BlackSheepRacingMaine 3 місяці тому

      I think it just depends on what style of racing you like. Being mostly short track fans up here in the northeast, it was really cool to see Bob Bahre build the biggest "short track" ever made. With such small banking in the turns you really need to know how to fully utilize your brakes and keep momentum rolling through the corners. And qualifying is much more important here compared to any other 1.0 - 1.5 mile track. Some great racing over the last 30+ years.

    If memory serves, a large part of the reason Jeff Burton was so dominant that day was that his team had burnt one of their seven in-season tests in the preceding week on a similar flat mile oval (I want to say Milwaukee?) with a plate in place, so that they could get the best possible setup. No other team chose to spend a test on what was expected to be a one-off, so virtually nobody had anything for him.

    How dare you.
    As a kid this was the first race i attended and Jeff Burton was my favorite driver. This race was fantastic.
    And yes I was freaking out and pissed at Earnhardt.

    This is still my favorite race that I watched in person. Plenty of intrigue around the restrictor plates, got to see Joe Bessey make his only Cup start at his home track, lots of bumping and banging at the end, and as the race wore down it started to get intense seeing if Burton could hang on. We'll never see another Cup race where a driver goes wire to wire.

    This eas my first ever NASCAR Cup race, I was 7 years old. I loved it just cause I got to see someone go wire to wire like that

    "hard to pass" is pretty much the description for every race at New Hampshire. It's an awful track and I'm not sure why they continue to race there.

    The restrictor plate was the issue, no one had any power when they stepped on the throttle.

    I seen the thumbnail and knew instantly what race you were talking about. I remember when Nascar put plates on Daytona and Talladega. I'm old enough to remember going to the small body cars.

    This is why the majority of people think New Hampshire is boring and why it shouldn't have a playoff race ever again. It's actually quiet laughable how some fans that live close to the track think it's actually a good track. It's not. Fans that live close to Pocono say the same thing about Pocono and neither deserve a playoff race or a longer race length.

    Idk how people like Steve park, just a mid racer and without his earnhardt ties he doesn’t last nearly as long.
