Awesome to see the Flip List mentioned! Here's an excerpt from Greg Fielden's 'Forty Years of Stock Car Racing Vol. 1,' a source which we've used a lot on the project: "Junior Johnson was bidding for his fourth straight win, but his day ended early. During an early caution period, Johnson tangled with Jack Smith. Johnson's Ford flipped over and was out of the race. Curiously, Johnson relieved Smith and flipped his car in the first turn on lap 146. Johnson sat out the remainder of the race."
I was actually there for all the Knoxville Truck races. And that flip & wall ride was absolutely insane to see and just caught me off guard. Thought to myself man...this is absolutely a wreckfest but fun as hell in person (except for part of that multiple delayed OT).
Think the 2 wildest flips gotta be Maynard Troyer (They actually fixed that car) and the cat who flipped and went over the wall at Talladega (Horton) and walked away.
Horton's flip actually made them install a catch fence in the turns which came handy just 3 years later in 1996 the fact we nearly had 2 of those in 3 years is wild and I remember watching someone react to flips it goes to Preece's Daytona flip then he says oh God it's 1971 as he was trying to say something along these lines "do you think he's trying to oh God it's 1971 do you think he's......." and just silence watching Troyer's flip
I'd add Mark Martin's flip at Sonoma in 1989, he actually turned over under caution due to a wheel coming off and not only returned to the track but only finished five laps down.
I have Greg Fielden's 40 years of stock car racing books. His write up for the Lincoln Speedway race says: Junior johnson was bidding for his 4th straight win, but his day ended early. During an early caution period, Johnson tangled with Jack Smith. Johnson's Ford flipped over and was out of the race. Curiously, Johnson relieved Smith, and flipped his car in the first turn on lap 146. Johnson sat out the remainder of the race.
Reason the camerawork on broadcasts suck so much is that they ALWAYS super-zoom into incidents instead of making wide shots . So we end up not seeing anything !
Kinda like the format but kinda don't. Probably could have been two videos. Not enough for each one individually but felt like they all got cut down a little.
The most wild part was dudes would get out and run across the track with cars racing past them. I get why they did it but damn, it's wild.
Dink Widenhouse is the most 1950's name I've heard of lol
love this new format

I just saw your comment. I have the same book set and commented the same thing. Nice to see a fellow historian here.
This new format is great

There is no excuse that I’ll take about how fox miss Friesen’s and Moffitts crashes.

I have it linked in my channel :)
