Pros:
- Since a double boiler rarely rises above the boiling point of water, your risk of scorching the wax is much lower.
- Very easy to set up - can be created in minutes in your kitchen.
- Inexpensive because you don’t need any special supplies. Most people have a spare measuring glass and a large pot.
Cons:
- Limited batch size, since the pot or measuring glass can only hold so much.
- Much slower to melt the wax with this since water can take a long time to boil and only rises to 212°F (100°C).
- Limited control of temperature since you’re only boiling the water or cooling it off - no steady “hold temperature” ability.
- Lower temperatures mean you can’t make palm wax or other high-temp melt point candles easily
Equipment:
4 lb aluminum pour pot or 4-cup measuring glass
Kitchen scale
Wooden spoon or small spatula
One small disposable cup or small glass container (not used for food or drink)
1 clothespin
Hot plate or stove top
Thermometer (IR, glass, or candy works)
Heat gun (optional)
Scissors
Supplies:
Paraffin or soy wax
Fragrance oil or essential oil

Have you found that the plastic handle on the wax pourer has ever had issues like softening or melting?
I found the measurements for the scent helpful and the heat gun at the end VERY helpful. I’m going to be selling skate wax and will likely need to use those tricks! Thank you.

What to do about air pocket around the Wick
Is it okay to use this method with old wax from old candles? What if we where to mix the candles?
Getting a little confused with adding my FO so many blogs say to add it when temp drops to 57c but in your videos it only says to add it while hot... Absolutely love your Chanel btw 🙏🏾😍
Whenever it's added, just make sure you stir it sufficiently. Makes a huge difference, hot OR cold!

I forgot about double boiling with a water barrier between the heat and the wax. And I'm worried if it will ruin the wax? Is it a loss or can you still make it work.
Hello, there are those who write that some additional substances should be put into it to make paraffin candles. (Like stearin) Is this necessary for the candle we will pour into the jar? What percentage of fragrance should we put in? Does soy wax or paraffin give more fragrance to the prepared candle?
I saw that you added the fragrance oil pretty much right after the temp reached 185° and it was taken off the boiler. I’ve seen some candle makers say you need to let the wax cool some, but they’re never consistent about how much the wax needs to cool before putting in the fragrance. What temperature do you recommend putting the fragrance oil in?

Can wax be stirred too fast or too slow? Love your channel!
Yes! Too fast and you might introduce air, which would screw up the finished candle. Slower is better, but don't stir so slow that you don't actually stir haha

I tried this with the 2lb Hearts & Crafts pouring pot and it didn't work for me. The pouring pot wouldn't stay in the pot and kept moving around and tipping. I'm thinking it was because the pot itself is too flimsy and not sturdy enough, should I invest in a heavier pouring pot for this method? Thank you!

How much wax do I need to make 110 4 ounce candles?
So, I have granulated wax and idk if it’s different than the bigger waxes so could you help? And can it be melted like a normal candle?
Use it the same way! I'm assuming you're talking about the format of the wax rather than the type of wax.
Why do candles sink in and get sink holes during the cooling process?
Do you have to take the temperature of the wax?
Yeah, all the time. I use an IR thermometer and a glass one, but usually not at the same time since they can measure a bit differently.
May I know why do we have to consider double boiling the wax? Isn’t it ok if we directly place it on a pan and directly melt that on stove heat?
Temperature control is the main reason! Placing directly on the heat isn’t terrible to do, but it can be harder to keep your arms around the process.
Hi Kevin, I'm hoping you'll clear something up for me. Do I need to try to keep my wax temp at exactly 185° for the whole two minute duration of stirring? Im finding it extremely tricky to keep putting/ taking it off the heat to keep the temp steady and stir at the same time. 😩 Or am I just overcomplicating this step?
Definitely over complicating it. You CAN keep it high, but there’s no need to. The idea was to have that wax as “open” as possible when the fragrance oil enters.

Once I put my pouring pot into the big pot. It moves around so much it’s going to spill and I have to hold it any suggestions?

You said in your video to pour at a cooler temp. What is your suggested temp for pouring after stirring in FO for two mins
The general rule of thumb with that is to stir until the wax becomes foggy (starting to turn back into a solid). This is the extreme version of pouring cool, and that temperature depends on the wax. But if you're making basic soy wax candles, "cooler" often refers to around 135°F range, But don't stop stirring until it reaches that!

I however I add 1tsp per 250g soy wax
Iv also found that flakes hold fragrance better
You forgot to say what the flash point should be when adding fragrances.
In Australia we have Celsius so we add our fragrance at 60*c and pour at 50*c - 60*c
Let cure for at least 10hrs before lighting
If you can buy it, buy EcoSoya Q210 Soy Wax (formally known as EcoSoya CB135)
so this used to work with me BUT I tried again this year and I can't get my wax to even 100° what's happening?
Hi what temp are you adding the FO?
185°F (85°C) for this one (soy wax). I typically add at 185°F for paraffin too.
