Mazda paint code 46G Machine Gray is a special effect gray metallic color that gives the paint a “sculpted from solid steel” appearance. The OEM process utilizes an exotic tri-coat system made up of a black color coat followed by high brightness leafing aluminum layer, then is topped with a clearcoat.
Given this unique clearcoat finish, and it's relatively thin film build, the procedure for performing quality repairs of this color differs from PPG's normal waterborne basecoat system process, especially in how the surface is prepped, and how the basecoat is applied.
This specific minor repair process is best suited for small to medium-sized spot repairs. The process outlined in this document is necessary to meet appearance, performance, and VOC regulatory requirements. You should contact your PPG representative for full documentation on the approved products, systems and processes.

Super
Are there automotive paint shops in NYC who specialize in this process? Thanks.
Why an tack coat for the first coat of clear?
Thanks Mazda...
My thoughts exactly. Oh, and by the way... don't expect to get paid for making a let down panel. You can just do that for free. AND... I hope it isn't humid on the day you are painting. Envirobase loves to not dry once the humidity cracks 50 percent. They really need to consider outlawing 3 stage paint for OEM finishes. Creates so much unnecessary waste and extra pollution for no good reason.
🤣 hey Mazda🖕🏻
@@cliffordgill9052 I’m actually painting one right f’ing now.
@Danny Burke
Original comment is three years old!😂
I haven't seen this colour yet, was working at a Volkswagen dealer, then Ford dealer, now small independent shop. I see more of the candy reds but never this colour yet!
@@cliffordgill9052 I know. Great coincidence I’m getting ready for the second coat of clear. Such a difficult color. Metallic but NO sparkle at all.
So a small repair on the bumper ensures that you have to refinish the quarter AND the door? I am sure that the insurance company will not pay for this.
Matthew Wolff It does if you mention the colour
It’s just so the quarter matches your bumper of not I’ll look way off
Why did you panel paint the blend panel? You should’ve posted what the passenger door looks like to the rear door as well
It’s dark
Why a wet bed instead of blending clear coat?
Both are the same
この難しい色は、車により金属感が異なります。
ユーノスのスポーツカーの方が、金属感がある様に思います。
問題は、旧塗膜とのグラデーションですね。
Great! Another color created by manufacturer that does not consider repair facilities time etc., making things way more complicated than necessary creating more pollution and not to mention cost and potential color match issues for car owners with this color, who I am sure are not told about the ramifications to repair this when they buy this color car as in all other Tri-coats! What are they thinking? 👎
I like the, "That's it!" at the end!
I can see this ending in a lawsuit No matter what you do it doesn’t have the same effect. Control coat point is pointless. No matter what it he’s way to much sparkle and the car no sparkle whatsoever. Pull that car out in the sun. You’ll see it every time.
I think this is over rated. Doesn't look hard at all
