DIY Wooden Earrings

  • In this video I make a few pairs of wooden earrings using padauk, walnut and maple. I first resawed the stock on the bandsaw down to about 3/16" and then using some CA glue tack them down to a squared up piece of stock that I used as a planer sled. After planning all the pieces down to about 1/16" I laminated 3 together giving me a beautiful pattern of different woods. When the laminations dried I put them on the CNC and cut out the shapes. If you don't have a CNC this part can certainly be completed using a scroll saw. After the CNC completed it's paths I cleaned up the hearts using sandpaper, drilled a hole for a hanger wire and connected the parts together.
I used the Inventables X-Carve to cut these earrings.

+Awesome Wood Things Really, really small! Was not sure if they would work since they are so small but they turned out pretty great.....thanks for watching Matt.

Very nice, Tyler! There are some great ideas in this video. Here's an idea for you: Those small, solid hearts? They would be perfect bracelet beads. Drill through them from side to side and string them on elastic. My granddaughters love bracelets, and I'd bet your little girl would love one too.

+Mark Lindsay I actually made some earrings out of them as well, a heart over a heart, but a bracelet is a great idea! Thanks for the comment and for watching Mark.

nice. this is one of the situations where the cnc comes in real handy. the scroll saw would undoubtly be way more time consuming.
