  • DIY Handmade Wooden Earrings - March 22nd was +Rebecca Miles birthday. She needed earrings and we don't have extra $$ for gifts right now.
    So I made a trade with a friend for a small piece of wood (wormy maple) and made these Handmade Wooden Earrings up for her. :)

      Rozzie Mistry - Thank you so much for your kind words Rozzie, that means so very much to me...it really does! I will do my best to make more woodworking type videos, but it will probably hold off for a while as I'm getting ready to ride a bike across the country and raise money for a cause. Course, I'll be documenting it here as well. Stay tuned! :)

    I know this is an old video, but I've gotta comment that your earrings are beautiful! I hope she adored them. - Making things by hand is a lost art. I want to learn how to do these kinds of projects and everyone keeps telling me that it's just cheaper to buy blanks, but there is SO much more love and character in handmade.

    Way to go Wayne! those are awesome earrings. I've got to hand it to you; I don't think I'd have the guts to cut that wood with a circular saw. You're a great husband to do that, and a lot of thoughtfulness went into them. You guys take care, Kim

    Nice job. To those who don't know, the circular saw should have at least an edge resting on a stable surface and *never* attempt to cut a curve. Cutting a curve will cause the blade to get stuck in the wood and kick back violently.

      +Wayne Meador Wayne, my point was, it's a very time consuming undertaking, you have to love doing this stuff. I made a necklace with the wood part being a buoy, it's very nice, but we have to find a way to get this done faster to make it profitable. This is beautiful work.

    • @WayneMeador
      @WayneMeador  8 років тому +2

      Gotcha, yes...this is correct c7i6abc! I very much agree...however, this took me a total of about 8 hours, so....not too bad. That said, with the right equipment and jigs set up, I believe they could be made in less than 2 hours of total work. :) I simply like "making" things from anything....and find inspiration in many different random objects. Heres a couple ideas to correct the wobbley disc sander plate and wonky table get a small peice of MDF mount belt sander to that with rubber washers then make a plate of MDF since 90% of disc sanding is done at 90° to plate
    Then use rubber contact cement to mount a plate of MDF to sanding plate take a normal wood working chisel lay that on Your new MDF and use it like a lathe chisel to true the sander disc to the new plate You built
    That way your sanding disc will be true to your sanding plate
    I think a 2'x4' peice of MDF from a big box store or whats every You could scrounge will do all of this
    WoodSmith magazine has many good articales about building Your own shop tools and machines if You can afford to buy to buy ther back issues on CD it would worth if You want to make your own or upgrade what You have
    I hate crappy tools but cant afford the good ones
    I noticed your were on Your knees in one shot working with the dremial
    Have You thought about makeing a taller table/work bench for small close up work or just sitting on a milk crate to get lower and closer to your bench ? For this detail work
    Good luck get back to Me if You Need help

      @WayneMeador  9 років тому

      Hi Walt Lars,
      Thank you for your thoughtful comment and suggestions, I love the ideas! I had a bucket I was working on, but the height wasn't right (you're observant!) so I'd kicked it out of the way. I don't have a final workspace yet, so I'm going to wait to build a good table....but eventually, I will. I have some good plans for a multi-use tool table for the center of the shop etc....lots of ideas that will make it so I can build almost anything. lol
      For now, it will have to hold off for a while as I'm getting ready to ride a bike across the country and raise money for a cause. Course, I'll be documenting it here as well. Stay tuned! :)

      Yes, I like the idea of coming down that way, and I may do. That being said, I've been being guided in the direction of San Francisco on this trip around. I still haven't been to So Cal, and I'd really like to go! I hear what you're saying and totally agree. :) Will be starting a GoFundMe sometime soon, and what happens there, will determine the quality of production, and length of the documented trek. Thanks for the ideas and the support!

    • @Hellsong89
      @Hellsong89 7 років тому

      The sanding plate is aluminum, so take chisel you dont like much :D and level it best you can like using lathe. After you can glue in some mdf disk and lathe that to perfection. Take thick plywood peace, bolt your machine on that and build your support table possible from wood, being adjustable or solid what ever fits your skill set. There is plenty of videos, people modifying/upgrading these cheap china tools and sometimes you dont need much to get it work well.
      Also if its just the plate, take axle out and take it to machine shop who can lathe it straight right away. I out source things when i dont have machinery my self. Heck TIC welding+20 year veteran welder has cost me so far couple € for gas and coffee packet^^ just march in and ask if some small job is possible. Even bigger jobs are possible depending the person, after their work day, but that bit pricier than coffee packet.
      Do what you can with tools you have, other vise out source and get things done.
      Also with small peaces gluing bigger scrap on to that usually helps to clamp it and makes things safer for your fingers. When you have to lose that scrap peace, then use double sided tape, or hot glue to hold it.

    You'd be surprised what poor-quality/nonexistent tools you can use if you want to make something badly enough. I wanted to make a spoon for my travel mug. Didn't have an axe. Didn't have a sloyd. Didn't have a saw. Didn't have a hook knife. I seem to recall chewing the wood into shape with my teeth and using a lot of sandpaper... Spoon came out just fine.

    LOL! Mr. Meador! :) Two Words,,,SCROLL SAW?! Okay,I believe you are a mighty talented individual! In fact as I began watching your video I couldn't help but think of another very talalented and unique soul- RAY MURPHY CHAMPION CHAINSAWYER,from Hancock,Maine (one of my old stomping ground p!aces). What that man can do with a chainsaw or two will blow your mind!!! (If you don't know of him at least. Go Google him ;) l
    So, I can appreciate how it is when you can't afford fancy high dollar tools.I make the best of what I have as well,or sometimes my sweet and thoughtful honey will get me some affordable goodies at his favorite go-to gadget store (Harbor Freight) ;;)Anyhoo, love your work and Video,just PLEASE BE CAREFUL! Hope no kids try this..a little common sense goes a long way. How did your Bike trek out West turn out??? Good I pray?!Thanks for the I inspiration,I just LOVE woodworking! I make jewelry mostly with wire and beads or found objects and would enjoy working up something with wood. Speaking of bicycles, my first buffing machine was created by my turning my bike upside down,wrapping strips of flannel around the back tire and using soap as a urging compound and talc, I would crank that's puppy around as fast as I could go and shine up my pieces of seashell pretty decent.. (I was 18 at the time back in the 70's lol.) A little Ingenuity and desire goes a long long way!! Much creative sucess my friend! Cheers! Mindi :)
