Thank you for this video. I was successful at removing the key fob chip and replacing it into my newly ordered key fob. I paid $17.00 for two replacement key fobs and now have one to spare. All the Best!
OMG!!!!! I had an Fob shell/case I purchased approximately 2 years ago. However I was too scared to try any technique as I was assuming my dumb ass would damage the board upon removal. Well....after cleaning out my glove box I found the new case and said...."YOLO". Took that bad boy in the house, pulled up the video, and tried it.....VIOLA.....it worked!!!! All features of the car work!! The doors locked/unlocked, trunk opened, engine started, and even the panic button draws attention. Thanks hun....you saved me hundreds of dollars as my Fob was cracked, missing plastic, and occasionally opened/locked when it felt like it while having me look stupid having to walk back to my car pressing the buttons a million times. Now I have a shiny new uncracked Fob and the days of being embarrassed to hand over my key to the valet are behind me lmaoooooo. Thanks again xoxo
Thanks for this video. Hint: If your key starts the car but remote light doesn't work even after changing batteries, try giving the spring-loaded battery clip a bit of an extra bend (but don't break it!). Apparently they sometimes lose their spring and poor contact prevents batteries from working. Your video and checking the obscene price of replacement keys inspired me to investigate. Was going to remove chip but fixing the short battery retaining clip was all that was needed. Thanks again!
Thanks a lot bro, I had a key fob replacement for months but didn't replace it because I was afraid that I will damage the key chips. After I looked at your video I did it in 10min. Thanks a bunch!!
Dude very much you just saved me a fortune! Excellent process took me 5 mins to swap the inside of my key with a newer key fob i had from another car.. Much praise..
Thanks for posting this excellent video. I have been pondering how to get the internal board out on the key for the last 1/2 hour without busting it. After watching this, had it done in 1 minute. A precise, too the point, no messing around video. Thanks a bunch....................
Mate you really went the hard way around with this, if you look closely you will see a small gap in between the plastic lock bar and the circuit board, insert the curved tip of a nail file into that gap and twist it. it will release one of the locating studs and allow you to rotate the lock bar around and easily remove the circuit board with no effort at all. I replaced one of the switches on mine also and now it works just like a new one. your video put me on the path though so thank you very much. I thought you might appreciate the extra info
Absolutely the best way to replace the electronic chip/board into another new key fop that will save you potentially hundreds of dollars. Nicely done by Shams Alkari
Thanks man 100% accurate all this time I’ve been tapping key on shit to make it work but was just a piece of pocket lint blocking sensor saved me a lot of money good looks
thank you so much.... almost i call towing company go to dealer mercy, but your video give life !!! i just take the part, and put back again, and press the key, red light coming up.. !!! thank you i can frive now !!
Hey Shams, Good job on that info/video about changing guts of MCB ignition/key/alarm fob. It worked so easy I thought I had done it wrong... Thumbs up! Thanks, Sonny
Thanks, my lock button stopped working, pulled the chip out to find the push button had broken off, soldered it back together and hey presto a working key!
Thank you so much! I dropped my key fob and it cracked the plastic on top the lock button now the car won't lock due to the crack. I bought a key fob from eBay and will follow your method. I hope the one I got from eBay looks just like the official one I have. I want to keep the logo. Thank you!
Dear team !!! Happy New Year ! I wish all the best for all of you !!! Congratulations for the great video ! I have Mercedes W203 2003 model C200 . I change the car key cover as video shows and after that I can't turn on the engine . The buttons work perfect. Lock and unlock the doors. However when i put the key in and i try to turn it , i can't . Also doesn't make any noise of car systems as usually . Do you know what may happend please? Thank you very much .
Thank you for the video especially for the paper clip key. The battery replacement would not fix the fob, but after taking out the circuit board and spraying it, and the internal fob housing, with QD Electronic spray Cleaner, the key fob light began working, and so did the key controls on the car. I can only assume crud build-up on the board and in the fob, from 2005 to 2021 was causing the problem? Perhaps, after taking out the battery, just spraying the internals without taking out the circuit board could have also worked?
Does it work without the casing by chance? I'm wanting to put it in a custom project to see how thin of a card I can build it into so it's more convenient to carry
Hello, an awewsome tutorial, but I just wonder where did you order, or from which supplier did you order the replacement case, because I've found many of the 2 button cases but not any of them has the Mercedes-Benz logo in the back. Can you please provide the link for us it'd be awesome! Thank you!
this is fine if the buttons are not spoilt..i find cutting less risky coz most of my customers remote button are cracked and when they crack the purple plastic below the button stucks with the pcb and cant pull the board even when the white plastic already out......slowly cutting the fob from top with sharp cutter is safer coz most of customers gonna throw away the old fob anyway.
Hi Shams Alkari, what if the electric part of the key is damaged? I replaced the batteries and it still didn't work :( the red light came on though. Have i don't something wrong..pls advice Cheers
If your key is not working or functioning properly, you need to visit dealership, unfortunately there is no way around that due to security restrictions.
Ive done all that.. the buttons work, lock and unlock but when i put the key in the car, it doesnt recognise the key and wont do anything, while the other key unlocks the steeringwheel and can turn on the car.. what have i done wrong?
My mercedes e320 2004 model key some times takes a few tries to engage in the ignition.i can hear a click when I insert the key.i have replaced the batteries but still having trouble.
The batteries will only help the lock/unlock function, but the ignition portion is some form of a laser not requiring a battery. Try this method of removing the total inside panel and check for dust balls especially near the bottom where the laser key portion is. After a couple years of a troublesome key I finally found that was my problem thanks to videos like this.
Hi.. I have a C200 w202 car and one of my fob stopped communicating with the EIS, I guess. So I use the spare fob, hoping that someone can tell me, how to fix it. Do you have an idea?
Great that you have worked it out, great you went through the trouble of sharing your knowledge but unfortunately objective not achieved. Some of the most important shots are out of frame (cannot see what you are doing) or out of focus.... Result: this is still a trial and error undertaking for the prospective repairer.
Ok, I switched out the old fob casing with a new one, put it back together. It works only partially. It locks and unlocked the doors put won't turn in the ignition to start the car. So, I then put the chip and battery back in the old casing. Same thing. It locks/unlocks the doors, but won't turn in the ignition. What gives? Is there a secret here. I really don't understand why the old unit which always worked now won't just because I took it apart and out it back together. I didn't damage the chip. Please help. (Car is a 2002 C240). Thanks!
hey all, The best guide that I have checked out was on Volt daddy (i found it on google) Probably the most detailed info on batteries and this kind of things that i have found.
Just broke the key buton🤬🙈realised you dont need to put wire inside between white plastic, you can do from outside white plastic. If you put light all way down, you can see small hole where you can catch with wire under chip and pull out safely
I took it to an electrician, because water got into it from heavy rain. The key now has a signal but still doesn't open the doors nor turns the engine on.
Took me longer to find the paper clip than replace the key fob. Many thanks for the video.
Thank you for this video. I was successful at removing the key fob chip and replacing it into my newly ordered key fob. I paid $17.00 for two replacement key fobs and now have one to spare. All the Best!

I was struggling with changing my case until I found this video. The paperclip trick worked beautifully. Thank you!
Thanks a lot bro, I had a key fob replacement for months but didn't replace it because I was afraid that I will damage the key chips. After I looked at your video I did it in 10min. Thanks a bunch!!
No problem, I had the same fear.

Man, thank you for that. I don't know why Mercedes makes most of its parts so counterintuitive to disassemble.
Probably for selling new complete keys at high price :/
Yesterday I fixed my key along your video. Thank you very much.

D Rey Im glad it helped, thanks for the thumbs up!
Very good video. Have followed instructions and completed the changeover twice without any problem.
The most Canadian thing I have ever seen. Explaining how to fix it in reverse. Worked tho.
Worked perfect...saved me from tearing my old fob apart...thanks
Thanks, my lock button stopped working, pulled the chip out to find the push button had broken off, soldered it back together and hey presto a working key!

David Habana Funny comment about the national secrets. But that is how MB treats their stuff. Top secret. 🙊
Just did this! I'm happy with the result. It definitely was difficult.
Hey, This was a great video. It worked perfectly! It probably took me longer to find a paper clip LOL. Thanks for the vid!
7 years old, but still useful, thanks
Awesome! Thank you very much, for taking time to film and post.
this video saved me 300 dollars.
That's awesome
Fantastic. Bit tricky but worked. Just ordered a new fob. Use the spare for now.

It helped. Thank you very much!
Maaannnnn!!! I sure appreciate this video!! 👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿
To open the new shell must use the short part of metal key pushing down and then to side and the cap will be able to get off.
Works just as well placing the paperclip into the little slot Merc put in for this purpose and springing thr clip in the same way.
thanks my keyfob works now!
Thank You for this. Worked great!
Thanks … my old key was unable to turn ignition and the new one fixed the issue…
@Shams... is there a website to buy the fob chip? Great video!
I bought mine from eBay years ago, there are many different sellers you can pick from.
Hello, an awewsome tutorial, but I just wonder where did you order, or from which supplier did you order the replacement case, because I've found many of the 2 button cases but not any of them has the Mercedes-Benz logo in the back. Can you please provide the link for us it'd be awesome! Thank you!
This having a million views shows how many people go through this problem lol
What was the reason to change case? Was it cosmetic, or the key didn't start the car...?
Did you figure out how to get it to start lovking and unlocking again
Thanks Shams! You're a genius!

I want to change the black key to the chrome One but dont know of IT would Fit, please answer😊 the dealer wants 700-800+ labour
Just received my key fob blank from Ebay and changed it out in 5 minutes. Thanks.
Hi Shams Alkari, what if the electric part of the key is damaged?
I replaced the batteries and it still didn't work :( the red light came on though.
Have i don't something wrong..pls advice Cheers
Thanks video helped me out!!!!
I changed the key case, but the lock and unlock buttons doesn't work. I can ignite the car and drive but the other thing is a problem.
If your key is not working or functioning properly, you need to visit dealership, unfortunately there is no way around that due to security restrictions.
You’re amazing bro thank you

Who was the ebay seller? I understand some sellers do not have the metal star on the back of the case
This method worked for me. 😊
Thank you ... Thank you ... you saved the day
Could you post a link from what seller you got it from eBay? Thanks!
I dont think the same seller I bought from is still available, sorry.
Ive done all that.. the buttons work, lock and unlock but when i put the key in the car, it doesnt recognise the key and wont do anything, while the other key unlocks the steeringwheel and can turn on the car.. what have i done wrong?

At MB dealer shop

How do i get to the part where u started from....where i can see the circuit board?
DID U EVER HAD A PROBLEM after when u CHANGE BATTERY THEN AFTER DOESN'T WORK IN YOUR IGNITION?
Very helpful thanks!
The laser piece to start the car, came off as I tried to pull out the chip... I did once before by breaking the key fob, it seems much safer
Wher can I buy a blank chip for w203 ?
Good question.. I need to purchase the fob chip as well.. help anyone?
I wonder if you can do that to a newer remote, the ones with silver running down the sides
+adam987689 new one is easier there is a white plastic small pole already made for easier pull out..no need to do this.
Hi.. I have a C200 w202 car and one of my fob stopped communicating with the EIS, I guess. So I use the spare fob, hoping that someone can tell me, how to fix it. Do you have an idea?
