- Changing the batteries in your Mercedes key is simple if you know how, this video shows how to replace the batteries in a key for a Mercedes vito van. The batteries required for this key are two CR2025 batteries.

This is the best information I've ever found on the internet!!! I could see that the top of the key should come apart, but couldn't work out how to get it apart! You are brilliant and a very generous person to take the time to make the video clip! Thank you sooo very much!!

Thanks very much. You practically helped in saving me from losing my new job on the first day. The fob wouldn't unlock the car 30 mins before I was to report for induction and using the emergency key did the trick. Cheers.

I got the change for about €7.50 (€3.50 for each battery) 🔋
You have saved my day with this. Dropped keys in a puddle -soaked. Had to walk home thinking the worse, key key fob etc. Found your vid, took key fob apart now slowly drying out. Will give it some new batteries as well. I just hope my attempt at getting the fob to work by pressing the buttons whilst it was wet hasn't damaged the circuit board.

Great video, how can anyone dislike this super clear video. Just a tip if others have this issue my contacts weren't great even after a new battery I had issues, using some WD40/CRC I cleaned the inner and outer contacts and inside the fob where the + & - terminals make contact, now it's like new.

@@alexludlam2313 It's dead simple, you look at the existing batteries and get two replacement ones. If you are really smart you can check the description of the video, which states CR2025 batteries ;-)

Saw this video and haven't changed my batteries yet in my 11 year old MB keys. Bought CR2025 3V batteries. Changed them out on all my MB keys. Thanks for the video.

“If you press any one of these three buttons and the little LED does not light up, it means the battery is flat”.
I can't make it much more clearer than that. 638,000 other watchers have not had a problem understanding ;-)

my key is showing the red LED but not locking or unlocking the car. any other suggestions?
I'd remove the metal key and try that?
No, if the battery is dead the LED will not illuminate

Thanks for this video. A friend of mine called tonight, locked out of his car, and I was trying to explain to him how to get the emergency key out of the fob, and I sent this video to his cell phone. Bummer is, his car battery appears to be dead. Oh, well!

***** So I changed the batteries in the remote, but, I'm still not able to get it to work the way it's supposed to. The reason I changed the batteries was because I couldn't get my car to unlock unless I pointed the front of the remote directly at the IR receiver on the door handle at a distance of not more than an inch or two.
Still getting the same issue even after changing the batteries...

Were the new batteries good quality ones?
Sometimes if you buy cheap ones they are not so good. I'd try a new pair of batteries and if it's still not working you might need to take it to a Mercedes specialist to find out if it's the key fob or the receiver that is faulty.

That is a CR 2025 battery. Radio Shack sells them by 3 pack for $12. Thank you for the video, which saved me a trip to the dealer.
$2.00 for (3) on ebay

Just come back from Timpson's and they couldn't change the battery because they said the fob is sealed and I need to visit mercedes.

I went to auto zone and they had no idea how to open this key than my friend showed me your video so I opened it on my own and went to get new battery, rn it works perfectly thanks a lot.

Great instructions. Was able to follow through with no issues.
The only problems:
1) I don't have an LED telling me if the batteries are fine or not;
2) after the battery change, my key fob still is not working.
Time to call Mercedes again...

Thanks very much for this. I have been leaving the doors unlocked for six years. Even at concerts and busy downtown areas. No one has even tried to open the door once in all that time. I know because the passenger door unlocks when the driver door is opened. Now I can use the fob again. yay!

UH - Thank you, and yes it worked on my Mercedes Benz oldish year 2000 C200 W202, which has a slightly different fob key latch and battery terminal clips (with helpful ++ on one side of the battery holder). I did not need to replace the 2 CR2025s, but now I know how it's done :-)
