Instead of zigzag stitching along sides, the last time I had a stash of fabric to prewash, I folded each piece with sides towards the centre and folded again so edges were not poking out, then placed inside mesh laundry bag. You can put 2 or 3 pieces into one bag depending on size. This stopped any unravelling.
Thank you, Sherrill. I have so many scraps from non squared mistakes 😂. Your tips are so useful. Plus the zig zag one. I ruined a piece of fabric pre washing, all the threads knotted it in so many ways. 😊
I learned the hard way that cutting mats aren't always accurate! I bought one made in China and the measurements were up to 1/4 inch off in places! I didn't realize it until I was sewing pieces together and nothing was matching up. After I checked the mat, I was horrified! Now I rely on the ruler for my measurements. Thanks for the tip of skipping fabric softener when using fusible interfacing! ❤
Love your channel!! Thank you for doing the videos. I struggle squaring up fabric. One or more sides is always crooked. Can you share some tips on how to cut fabric straight? 😊
Good morning Sherrill. Not to call you out but I may have not counted right but I think you measured at 4 1/2” instead of 3 1/2”. I could very well be wrong. Love you and your videos. You and your family have a wonderful Thanksgiving!🦃. God Bless.
Hi Nancy. LOL - you are not the only one. I am unable to use scissors because of a right hand injury. But I will come up with something else so I won't freak you out. The camera angle makes the blade look closer to my hand than it really is. I have more accidents with straight pins than all my other tools put together. Happy Thanksgiving. Thanks for watching💗 and happy sewing😍
Thanks for the tips! Generally, I pre-wash, particularly if I am worried about shrinkage, like making clothes. I do either a zig zag stitch or 3 thread overlock down the raw edges, then once dry, give it a good ironing. When looking at the fabric in my cupboard, I can clearly see which has been pre-washed because the raw edges will be covered.😊

Oh Sherrill you make me so nervous when you use the rotary cutter so close to your bad hand. Please be careful and wear a special cutting glove…❤

I don’t think that Sullivan Matt is a self healing mat and that will shorten the life of your rotary blades
