Been a fan of Kelty since the 90s. Back then it was like Northface quality for half the price. But with soooo many options today, it's great to see reviews like this… Thanks for a great video and keep up the great work.
Hey Arron this is Scout Master Dan thanks for the review, I purchased two ozark trail backpacking tents on Walmarts website that is exactly that same platform for $18 each. Been rocking those for almost two years and I have to say for a budget piece of kit my boys luv em. And they're stout.
It's exactly like the Alps Mountaineering lynx 1 I don't know who copied who but they are about the same retail I got mine on sale for $60 on steep and cheap and love it. It comes with a small stuff sack it's a little heavier (3.9 pounds) but has taped seams a great rain cover with small windows on each end so you can still have some visibility. It has aluminum poles and stakes that really cut down on the weight and are excellent quality. It also comes with a pocket on each side and a SMALL gear loft with a separate pocket attached to that it's pretty new but so far I love it you can find it on Amazon for about $85 if your interested.
I'm wondering what the orange sleeping pad brand is, the air filled pillow, and what else you might regularly have in your camping loadout/system. My family is looking to start camping (2 adults, 2 kids, 1 large dog). Advice is always appreciated! We are starting from the beginning, not even owning a tent!
A great tent with one fatal flaw. No vents in the fly. While that may be OK, in the Colorado mountains and plains, I can think of a lot of parts of the country and many points on the calendar where that is a no go situation. Thankfully, I caught that detail in time and went another direction for a tent. If Kelty would change that only thing it would be a really great tent for a really great price.
Well I found my Hammock from Living Survivals channel. Looks like I've found my tent (or both probably lol) from your channel. Awesome awesome suggestion and review! Thanks!
I'm happy with mine. Double walls are awesome! 40 nights AZT,, 70 nights forests of PA, Still in great shape. Some bent stakes though. Stable in wind. I Rarely had to use the guy lines. The fly stake on each side are enough to keep the tent stable. I would treat with seam seal; especially bottom corners. No leaks, even during down pours. Also, use a 1 mil. plastic sheeting footprint for extra protection from moisture and abrasion Only complaints, a little bulky and no gear loft provided.
Hey, so are you saying it hasn't leaked even without seam sealer? I'm concerned the bottom perimeter seam will leak since it has no visible seam sealer...
Kelty makes great value gear. I have a Grand Mesa 4 (~7 lb $170) for 2 people and a dog + backpacks. I almost bought the Salida but the Grand Mesa has more mesh for airflow and visibility. Their backpacks are awesome as well.
There seemed to be a lot of air/compressible space inside the rectangle carrier. Could this be considerably further shrunken down to take up less space in backpack?
I have the Salida 2 and like it. My 65 lb America bulldog boxer mix does not like it as much. She is a social butterfly and does not like the high screening. My shangra 3 is all screen and she prefers the visibility with the fly pulled back.
Nice tent Aaron! I have a old Sierra Designs "Summer Moon" that's rectangular 2/1 man tent used in 4 season (In Indiana, not Colorado, lol..). I've used it in backpacking, car and motorcycle camping... I should do a video on it, just to show differences in 25 years.. God Bless...
I have one, did switch storebag to cylinder type(fit in my pack better) and added footprint. You can set up with just poles and fly too (no tent). At 6'5"+ I like being able to sit up.
I have Nature hike wind wing 1 which is a close knock of this...I got it in here in Thailand around same price point, a bit less but without some of the frills of this tent. Interesting. Weight is exactly the same.
I am looking after a lightweight tent which is large enough to keep bikepacking gear inside, tall enough so i can sit and do some "base camping"( i like to write, draw, read or fix things with mosquito nets all closed) for now i am using the Quechua Quick Hiker 2 (which is ok for one person, might be too cosy for 2) and I love it, it's a very nice budget tent. However i try to find another double wall alternative because the Quick Hiker 2 weight 2,7 Kg, i wish i could cut off almost one kilogram to make the bike ride easier. These type of tent could be what i am looking for. Any tips welcome :)
I really like your reviews, ordered, logical. I recently discovered Cabela's Orion 2 backpacking tent. Looks good, quality looks very good, plus a lifetime warranty, it's priced at $118.99! Id love to see your review and hear your thoughts on the tent. Thanks for the reviews!
Sa-lee-duh. Great vid man, this came at an appropriate time, I'm in the market for a good budget backpacker. Thank you. btw, what sleeping pad is that? It looks pretty nice.
Hey Arron don't know if you remember but I commented on a video about a week ago I bought the esee junglas mora robust gerber strong arm the light my fire starter leatherman sidekick and man your word is true it was the best camping trip with my dad and some friends keep up with the good content
Thank you for showing these two budget friendly tents. They look awesome. Did you happen to use any Silnet or anything of the sort? Or would you recommend using it for these tents? Also, awesome to see you're still using that flashlight/lantern combo. I don't remember the name of it but I do remember the video review you did on it and that it had a fantastic price on Amazon I believe. 🤙🤙🤙
For very high-quality backpacking tents you can hit 600 to 700, but most are fine with much lower priced tents. It comes down to personal preference and what you're going to use it for.
I can't watch this with how many times your saying the name wrong. Im sure its been said before.. its a spanish word. Redo your voice over please!!!!!!!

It doesn't look like there was a ground cover under it. Is that typically how you use it and how well has the bottom held up?

Looking at this beesport and alpine two man for sierra

I would love to see what you pack for a multi day hike. What pack and contents

Hey Aaron, do you have any budget suggestions for a cold weather tent? I hunt, hike and camp in northern Michigan.
Think this is what im gonna get for this summer

May be a little late but the Paria Outdoors Bryce 1 person tent is a solid option.
I have a Salida 4....it's great! Fits my family of 4 perfect.
Steven Wells sweet!!
Did you every sleep with 2 person in Salida1? If yes how difficulty and what's your take away to use for 2person ?
Praveenkumar Vidyanandhavel If it's the same width as the ALPS Mountaineering Lynx 1, there's is no way. It's one person wide.
What's that canopy behind you called? I need that! Great vid by the way.
jackbaur18 mountainsmith shade tarp, I have a video and link

$150 is a budget tent? Good lord how much do you pay for a regular tent?

It’s pretty budget
I love kelty brand!
Good review, thank you!
Great review!!
I would it been good if you got into the tent to see how it fits a person.
This tent reminds me of the mountain warehouse 2 man tent, it is $50 and weighs 4 lbs.
1800mm Waterproof only do not go use that in rain is the best option i guess
Does this thing cause cancer?
