I had a similar 2 person Kelty tent on my very first backpacking trip, it was a high quality tent. I love the protection a tent provides but I will try a hammock soon too.
I got one North Face Storm Break 2, and one Kelty Salida. I was convinced on taking the North face with me this weekend but you’re making me question my decisions
This was the most helpful review I've seen in a while. I had this tent or a similar rei tent in mind. I'll be going with this one for sure. Thank you!!!
Aaron, I've kind of narrowed my BOB tent down to the Kelty Salida 2 or the Teton sports Outfitter XXL being that I'm SOLO. The question on have for the Kelty since you have about 2 yrs with this tent is --- Do you use/recomment the Kelty Salida 2 Tent FOOTPRINT? Do you think its necessary, etc?
i'm under the impression "salida" is meant as the spanish word for "exit", like you're getting away from urban/suburban life, so that would mean a different pronunciation ;) i like the inclusion of tent reviews now, looks like a great tent!
Sah-lee-dah, is a close pronuction in Spanish. It continues to amaze me that people don't attempt to learn a basic understanding of the Romantic languages, a Spanish being the most spoken in the world.
Andrey Gustey rei passage 2 footprint will work. Its not dead on the size but easy to make it work. I would recommend footprint if your on rocky rough ground repeatedly with any tent.
I saw you post the Salida 1 on your Instagram. Will you be doing a review of that? I'm on the fence between the Salida 1 and the REI Quarterdome 1. The quarterdome is a lot less expensive than other options in its weight class, but it's still about twice the price of the Kelty. The Kelty is 50% heavier, though. If I'm willing to carry the weight of the Salida 1, I feel like I should splurge for the Quarterdome 2 for roomier solo hikes and the flexibility of being able to bring another person out on a hike. If it is really a killer, might be worth just pulling the trigger on it and then waiting until the need for a 2-man tent comes up and addressing it then. Thanks!
Great review but I'm curious if the "gear loft" you showed was an after market purchase? Mine did not come with it. Also, I would love to see a demonstration on how to guy out the rain fly. Any suggestions?
i have a question. just bought.I noticed that the perimeter seam between the floor and the tent are not waterproofness( no seam sealing)and when you can put the fly this doesn't cover this seam,so the water can come inside I guess.... any comments about? cheers.
wow, are you serious? I was researching my next buy and was clearly holding this tent in the #1 spot. I can't buy a tent that is not seam sealed on the floor! Great to know before I purchased the tent.
Looks similar to a Big agnes Jack Rabbit I bought. Unfortunately its no longer available and worse I paid full price and it went on Clearance soon after...argh! Any ways, the Jack Rabbit is sweet as its got 2 vestibules and doors, a feature that appealed to me remembering how awkward it cam be when nature calls in the middle of the night. This is part of their super light series which is second behind their UL series. Its still light for a 2 man especially with its features at just over 4lbs. Big Agnes still make the Copper Spur which is essentially the same tent but uses even lighter materials for weight savings but it retailed for well over $100 more. The whole weight thing makes sense when hiking but how they get away with the price increase for what is little more than just a lighter denier material beats me. I would think that being lighter it would be less durable too, so its not as if its better all around. Oh and I like the colour of the Kelty and my BA, I prefer a warmer colour and not one that is excessively bright. I don't get why they make such bright colours.
aznelite325 is dead on; the pronunciation is actually "sal-ee-da", rather than "sal-I-da". Can't help but to hear "saliva", everytime the name of the tent comes up, jajaja. Looking forward to Aaron's spanish pronunciation, and how it'll stack up against the esee HOONglas and the esee IzuLA.
Your camera work from 3:00 to 3:40 was incredibly annoying. Close ups with jittery, circling camera help nothing. Otherwise great video. You're the only guy who's shown the vestibules from the inside of a tent. This gives the best perspective on their size. Also liked that you held the tent in mid air, giving a sense of its light weight. Also liked that you gave packed weight vs. minimal weight. No one ever thinks to do that. I'm considering the Eureka 2, since it's a little bigger for 2 people. But you may have changed my mind.
Congratulations. He has a completely legitimate for having guns in the wild, you don’t sit down and have political discourse with a bear to convince him not to eat you, you fuckin kill him before he kills you

I love that you had to cut the part where your dog starts to poop in the back 😂😊

I own one as well, & have nothing but good things to say about it so far.
After 2 years of use that tent looks really good, almost new!
Thank you. I just ordered one on Amazon. I use Kelty everything. I personally think they're the best.
Love mine. When it's raining and I'm highly motivated, it goes up pretty quickly.

picked up one of these at a thrift store for 10 bucks still in plastic! :) excited to use
How does the salida 2 hold up in below freezing temp?

Salida CO. I think the CDT passes by Salida CO.

How thick and durable is the tent’s bottom? Do I need to get a footprint for this tent?

After 3 years of posting this video Do u still recommend this tent for backpacking ?
HI, how tall is the person lying in the tent? It seems theres not much room for larger people..?
Great review but I'm curious if the "gear loft" you showed was an after market purchase? Mine did not come with it. Also, I would love to see a demonstration on how to guy out the rain fly. Any suggestions?
Mine came with the gear loft. Sun dry the rain cover.

Hey have you used this tent in rain to tell me if the bottom perimeter seam leaks or not? Thanks...
One pack I can agree 2 large packs very hard to back into tent upon entry
What does it look like in your pack? It seems kind of bulky

Was wondering how many names your were gonna give the rain fly before you got it right 😂
Great review! Thanks!
Hey Chief would you ever try a popup tent?
Great review! Thank you.
***** Thanks!

Lol. I own the Kelty Acadia. A nice one as well. Gracias

The size of that bag didn't look like it would be good to pack.
I own that tent and the fist time I used it I had ants raid it why I was sleeping.
p
2 heavy.
YOU HEARD the dude..... THEY SUCK!!!! wish he had a Canadian made one! lmao!!
It's all good! thx for the info.
You should practice before making a video 😉
This is a poor review- unless you're into watching a dude put up a small, lightweight tent over many minutes.
Sorry,too much guns.
Stop watching after 20 sec.

I noticed the same thing... Has it leaked when you used it?
Noticed it too that means a wet floor= wet sleeping bags
