    I once modeled for Kent Bellows for a portrait. He was incredibly skilled.
    I like to use charcoal in my graphite drawings for effects.

    Great information, thank you for sharing. I'm working on a pet portrait in graphite right now, but when it is finished I think I'll try it in charcoal.

    Hi Carey, thank you for this video. Is there a reason that you not using blenders/paper stumps and using the brushes instead. I just purchased some sponges, over and above the blending stumps I have.

      I just prefer them, personally I find I get better control. Having said that I am always learning new techniques and open to new ideas and mediums from new teachers so things do not get stale. Its all experience that you can draw on when the moment is needed.

    Question for Patreon members - are all the individual lessons included in the membership, or are they charged for separately? I've never before been a Patreon member of a channel like this. Thank you!

    I've always loved the depth and softness of charcoal but have always been afraid of using it myself and making a mucky mess 😒

      It's just a matter of learning the technique, like any other skill. I love this medium

      Regular graphite artist pencils that come in a range of hardness, harder H's to the softer B's.

    What about the paper? 🤔

    I’m legally blind and I can’t see to draw with anything but black ink, charcoal and very dark pencils. My biggest issue is what paper is best to use and whether it’s ok to use water as a fixative rather than risk using a commercial fixative and spraying it in my face.

    • @careyalvezartschool
      @careyalvezartschool  16 днів тому

      I like doing charcoal on Stonehenge paper by Legion. Its a very nice surface., As for fixative, I font use it myself, unless I intend to paint over it in an oil painting sketch.
      I've seen fixative wreck drawings if it clumps and spits, and it often does.If you drawings are on the wall or properly stored then they will be OK.

    Why do almost all art videos have some extremely annoying "classic" music in the background? Hearing a piano Plinking when you talk is, in my opinion, just distracting.
    Nice video otherwise.
