Great information, thank you for sharing. I'm working on a pet portrait in graphite right now, but when it is finished I think I'll try it in charcoal.
Hi Carey, thank you for this video. Is there a reason that you not using blenders/paper stumps and using the brushes instead. I just purchased some sponges, over and above the blending stumps I have.
I just prefer them, personally I find I get better control. Having said that I am always learning new techniques and open to new ideas and mediums from new teachers so things do not get stale. Its all experience that you can draw on when the moment is needed.
Question for Patreon members - are all the individual lessons included in the membership, or are they charged for separately? I've never before been a Patreon member of a channel like this. Thank you!
Patreon is a monthly subscription that gives you access to the complete library of courses, lessons and projects. New courses, and project lessons are added every month so the library is ever expanding. It is actually an amazing deal. Check it out: www.patreon.com/CareyAlvezArt
I’m legally blind and I can’t see to draw with anything but black ink, charcoal and very dark pencils. My biggest issue is what paper is best to use and whether it’s ok to use water as a fixative rather than risk using a commercial fixative and spraying it in my face.
I like doing charcoal on Stonehenge paper by Legion. Its a very nice surface., As for fixative, I font use it myself, unless I intend to paint over it in an oil painting sketch. I've seen fixative wreck drawings if it clumps and spits, and it often does.If you drawings are on the wall or properly stored then they will be OK.
Why do almost all art videos have some extremely annoying "classic" music in the background? Hearing a piano Plinking when you talk is, in my opinion, just distracting. Nice video otherwise.

Thank you for the explanation of the different types and how they behave.
You are welcome, hope it helps, its a great medium to use, especially when learning.
I once modeled for Kent Bellows for a portrait. He was incredibly skilled.
I like to use charcoal in my graphite drawings for effects.
Thx for the refresher! I am planning on doing a couple of charcoal Master copies next and practice using all of these tools.
Fantastic, good luck. I am a big fan of master copies, they are the best teachers.
Hey Lenore I just realized it was you! You sneaky devil.

What’s your little pounce made of? Can I buy it or is it made at home?
Its made from a thin sock I bought at the Dollar store.
Thank you for sharing this amazing video ❤
Thanks for your feedback, really appreciate it.
I've always loved the depth and softness of charcoal but have always been afraid of using it myself and making a mucky mess 😒
It's just a matter of learning the technique, like any other skill. I love this medium
🎉🎉🎉🎉❤❤❤bravo
Thanks for your feedback, really appreciate it.
What do you mean about 2.09 mins regular pencil and carbon pencil..I thought that they were the same
Regular graphite artist pencils that come in a range of hardness, harder H's to the softer B's.
What about the paper? 🤔
I like Stonehenge paper by Legion
@@careyalvezartschool Thanks ☺️
