Hey Issac - the "sticky shift" or as I usually refer to it as "shift lock" is there for compliance reasons, say for example you are a quadriplegic and are programming your beats with a stick in your mouth - this would allow you to use the shift key where otherwise you would be unable to use it. Just thought I would explain that - this feature is on other devices that use shift keys (including windows and mac os) to make life a little better for folks who are unable to use both hands / or fingers or what have you). Great job though - informative video!
oh yeah i totally understand why it exists, i just don't appreciate that it's not super clear. considering you use "shift+save" to get into the setup menu, it would make sense for a beginner to press "shift+save" to get back out, unintentionally activating this feature. thanks for your comment:)
hey! thanks for your comment. yeah, it's not really the intention of the circuit tracks to be used that way, but little things like this expand its uses a lot.
Well. You just upgraded my tracks after 2 years of use - instantly. Some really nice tips. Especially the pitch control for the samples! And the volume knop for the metronome simply hit me right in the face XD Amazing. Tnx!
The view lock explanation is missing the fact that you can select the patterns that are being view locked (shown in white) by shift+tap on the target pattern :) It's worth mentioning about the "turn clockwise to reset to default values" that this (absolutely not mentioned in either the tracks or thythm manual btw...) unfortunately doesn't work for synth patches, clockwise and anticlockwise will both turn red and erase automation. Very unfortunate as this could be pretty useful...
to be honest i don't have a great understanding of view lock, so i don't use it very much lol. thanks for the information! i also don't use automation very much, which would explain why i never noticed that limitation with the reset-values thing. definitely a big setback for some people tho! i wonder why they didn't include that feature in the manual... thanks for your feedback!
@@isaachorgan Sure! The view lock is really helpful to me to make changes to a pattern while another one is playing for example, or focus on one pattern of a chain :)
i was looking for a while too before i made that video. it is a useful feature for many people, but it should be clearer for when you accidentally turn it on. thanks for watching 😁
Circuit Rhythm user here, thanks for your tips, especially the patterns trick with shift for fills. I like reading manuals but overlooked this and forgot some other ones. Videos like yours are always welcome!
thanks for your comment! it's awesome how similar the tracks and rhythm are in terms of workflow. the shift+pattern trick is something i need to use a lot more haha
Thank you for this video. I just found your channel and am starting my journey of discovery with electronic music. I will be using your videos to learn all about the Tracks.
Super handy, and well organized. You really got it going on for your obviously young age (well compared to me anyway)...maybe you'll even wind up teaching music or something, thanks!
Hey Isaac, thanks a lot for the cool tips! I just ordered a circuit tracks and I ask myself if it is possible to chain pattern not in order? That is a cool feature on the old Circuit..
hi, unfortunately patterns can only be chained in order, which is an unfortunate limitation. you can work around this using scenes, because although scenes do have to be chained in order, the order of scenes can be different to the order of patterns. (e.g. have pattern 8 in scene 1, pattern 7 in scene 2, etc, and then chain them)
I got the rhythm yesterday Iv figured most of it out apart from downloading samples I know how to sample but it only let me take one loop as iv not got a formatted SD card in it yet
@@isaachorgan iv figured it all out I duplicated the pack and deleted the samples to record my own...only thing I'm having issues with is the input level as it's to low for certain things like my phone and can figure out how to set it apparently u use knob 8 but it's not lit up for that option on sample rec
unfortunately im not 100% sure. a few options to check out are the manuals which you can download from novation's website, and also Gabe Miller, a creator here on youtube. he made a lot of videos that helped me a lot with the circuit tracks, and his circuit rhythm videos would no doubt be valuable as well. good luck!
hi isaac, Some professional questions I inserted a micro memory card - Is the memory card used only when the device is connected to the computer? - How can I record a project on it? -And how do I hear the recording on the card? Or is it only used to import external sounds? And how do I pull out the sounds on the card. How do I not overwrite or delete the existing projects on the device? Thanks.
hi! sorry for the late replies, i'm on holiday! here is a basic explanation: the circuit tracks can store 128 synth sounds, 64 samples, and 64 projects on it's internal storage. when you turn it on, all of this is loaded into RAM for immediate switching. if you want more than this, you would need to swap it over using a computer. if you have a micro memory card, the circuit tracks can store an entire "machine state" into one pack, which are stored on the card. each pack is accessed by pressing shift+projects. the card is not used to directly import sounds; you need to use the "novation components" software for importing sounds. the card is only used for storage within the device. if you want to create a backup of the projects on your circuit tracks, you will need the same software for this. to ensure you dont overwrite the existing projects, just make sure you always select a different project slot for your creations. if you want to be extra careful, use novation components to create a whole new pack. this way, you have 64 empty projects to use. thanks for all your questions:)
@@GrayContrast yeah theres tons of stuff packed into this thing! i am thinking of recreating these tutorial videos soon, i've discovered more about the device since making them:)
hey! great question! i'm not sure, unfortunately i don't have a sustain pedal to test it on. the manual doesn't include the word "sustain" in that context at all, so it might not? i'm not sure. i'll see if i can do some testing for you:)
Technically, you should be able to make it work. It's just a matter of how dedicated you are. It doesn't seem to work out of the box, but if you look at the midi implementation chart for the cirquit, you will find that basically every function can be tweaked via midi-cc.
hey! yeah it's weird that some of these essentials aren't in the manual - especially the metronome and the resetting parameters. thanks for the comment!
Do you know if there is something like shift+pattern but for scenes? I would like to change the patterns using the scene but without waiting the patterns gets to the end to start the new scene.
hey! unfortunately this feature isn't available, as far as i know. i recommend using a new project for your patterns - you can use shift while selecting a project to switch instantly. thanks for watching:)
