@@kiefermr I'm 6'3" and my brother is 6'6". We both regularly look back and find people had quietly tucked onto our wheels. LOL! My brother is one of the few people I can get a good draft off of.
Not pink hair Hank, lime green to match the altos colouring scheme. But definitely dying the hair rather than an image of Connor in Y front. I'm still getting therapy for Si previously riding in london with budgy smugglers on!
Running higher than that takes away pretty much all of the advantages a fat bike has, too (I mean 30, not 8 or 9). Running high PSI on a fat bike just means you're reducing your contact patch and small bump compliance, but keeping the heavy wheels and tires. I don't see the point.
We've all seen so many kill hank challenges, I think it might be time for a "Hank tries to kill a GCN presenter" challenges. Have Hank delegate challenges to his colleagues and develop crazy rides that have even Si's chunky boy ankles shaking. I'm all in already and here for it.
So much fun and so entertaining! Love you characters both! Hank's strategies won outover disadvantages with bike! Pink hair please! I think Connor is the only one with proper proportions to ride El Alto. Watching Hank pull off fat bike BMX moguls and doing wheeliesm ade it for me!
Sorry unrelated question, so I was fixing rear rim brakes (v brakes) on a MTB hardtail bike with gripped perfectly on the stand, but when I sat on the bike or put a bit of pressure on the bike seat, the brakes became non existent, what's the problem? (The brakes pads, brake handles and cable are new, the calipers have good recoil and the cable tension is good) Please assist it belongs to a customer
It astonishes me that it’s legal to ride on a dual carriage way in the UK. It astonishes me even more that you’d do it on a foggy day. Even if it was legal, I wouldn’t do it in any sort of moisture.
Dressed in all black on a dual carriage way, in those weather conditions. At least Conor had a small tail light, but didnt see any on Hank's bike. Be safe out there
I just got a 2023 TREK Farley 9.6 fat tire bike with 27.5" x 4.5" wheels and love it! For summer time riding I'm thinking of building a set of 29" x2.2" wheels for it. Is this a crazy idea? The wheels would have to be custom built because of the 197mm axle on the Farley. This new wheel set would mostly be used for gravel riding on the "skinny bike". Great video !
Great fun! You tackled the English fog on technical and muddy terrain. You're both winners. Make an accommodation, Connor should dye his hair a nice Irish Green or Orange.
Fun!!! I so appreciate the reminder that, no what you're doing on the bike, it's supposed to be FUN!!! :D Also, who doesn't want to see a giant with PINK HAIR!! :D
Good job, fellas. Really enjoyed that 😀 I often wish I could also be doing the riding you get to do, but I don't envy you hurtling down the Batheaston bypass in the fog 🌫😬
GCN harp on about wearing helmets when cycling yet ride on busy dual carriage ways in winter poor visibility dressed in black head to toe with no lighting either. 🤷♂️
I know, right! Yikes...! How about at least a bright top for visibility? Anyhow, it was fun to watch, they made it, and obviously had a blast. Thumbs up.
If you've ever tried a fat bike and thought "I don't get it", be aware that there's *so* much tire on a fat bike you can completely transform a bike by using different tires. The difference between the very fastest fat tires on the market and the slowest is twenty watts *per tire*. The difference between the lightest and heaviest is about 500g per tire. A effect of 40 watts and 1000 g of rotational weight is going to be very noticeable. The very fastest 26x4 fat tires roll faster than many gravel tires but they don't offer quite as much ability to conquer sand and snow. The natural impulse is to think, "if fat is good, fatter is better" and go with 4.8 or 5 inch if that will fit, but if you have enough traction and flotation for the ride you're about to do, sacrificing speed and weight for more of those things doesn't help. I think the tires on the fat bike here are an excellent choice for the Mongolian adventure, but for the terrain in this video you could get by with a lighter, faster tire.
Ive been debating buying a fat bike. might have to pull the trigger next winter. unless Santa brings one. Id love to see alto with a flat bar. Think if it was a flat bar and better (bigger cog up front) the bmx track would have been his :)
Really enjoyed this as a 4 season titanium single speed fatbike rider I have to say tire pressure is key!!! More pressure in the speed test and Hank could’ve hit 60+ km for sure!! He proved that lowering it on the climb was beneficial too!!! Also tire selection makes a differenc3 those Maxxis Minions FBF and FBR are heavy!!! Put on some Shwalbe 4.0 Jumbo Jim’s and that fatbike would come more Alaina and nimble for sure!!.!! Great stuff 👍👍👍
I have become a fat bike lover! I ride mine year round, on and off road. It is just too much fun! Like you said, tire selection and pressure are very critical to getting the most out of the bike. Maxxis Minions are a great choice for dirt trails, but have too much rolling resistance for pavement. They aren't much good in the sand either. I settled on CST Roly Polys (26x4.8) since I lived in the desert, and soft, deep sand is everywhere. An added bonus is that they have very low rolling resistance, and even at low pressures, make the bike much faster on the road. Now I just need to get my hands on a pair of Vittoria Cannolis...
Indeed, 30 Psi can damage the rim over a longer period, since the forces on the rim are high due to the huge sidewall. 15 Psi is typically sufficient on roads
No matter who won, what really came across is that riding bikes, any bikes, with your mates is a laugh. Honestly, these two could make a video racing a Pennyfarthing against a recumbent and it would look fun
Even with a fat bike, with those monster wide tires, 26" (I'm guessing) smaller diameter wheels will have better maneuverability, and superior acceleration capabilities to the huge diameter 36" wheeled bike. That big 36" thing is almost like having a penny-farthing with two penny wheels. It was an interesting comparison. Of interest to me would be to have a similar race between the fat bike and a 700c gravel bike.
The fat bike will be slower than a gravel bike. The tires have more rolling resistance (but also way more grip), it's a perfect bike to ride on sand or snow (they come from Alaska) but if you want to be fast you need to reduce rolling resistance. On my commute I need 22 minutes with a bike equipped with road bike tires, but at least 30 minutes with my fat bike
What a silly video... I loved it. It's so nice to see people just having a laugh doing something they love. When you say pink hair, are we talking bleaching & permanent pink or one day wash out pink? Either way, there is no need to show us Connor in his pants!
Which would you rather have? 🤔
I would love to try a 36er. Don't think it's going to catch on though, and I already have a 29x3" that is getting hard to find tires for.
Fat bike for sure. I love the trails so that looks like it would be fun
I already have a fat bik, and it's great
Easily the fattie. There's snow on the ground for 4 months of the year here.
I have the canyon dude and love it!
So nice seeing a dad having a great ol time with his son. Warms the heart.
LOL!
Connor's an Irish giant
you didn't 🤣
I thought the same thing 😂😂
Or a grown up taking his little brother on adventure... 😂
The 36” wheel bike actually looks the correct size for Conor.
Because he‘s 7‘2 …?! 😂
Proofing that Connor is the perfect man for a lead-out train. Even Hank on a fatbike can easily hide behind him.
What a team mate he would be 🙌
This checks out. I’m not quite Connor height (I clock in at 6’5”/~196cm) and my riding buddies all say riding behind me is like drafting a billboard.
Connor truly a freak of nature

I’d love to see Connor taking El Alto on an epic ride. Something like the Southdowns Way.
I totally enjoyed the camaraderie of Hank and Conor in this totally fun challenge. Thanks guys for the smiles as always!!!

I'm confused. Did he say he was lowering the fat bike's tires to *30* PSI?
That's 20 too high at least.
Yeah, the tyres are only rated to 20 PSI, I run mine at about 8 or 9.
Running higher than that takes away pretty much all of the advantages a fat bike has, too (I mean 30, not 8 or 9).
Running high PSI on a fat bike just means you're reducing your contact patch and small bump compliance, but keeping the heavy wheels and tires. I don't see the point.

Yeah they can be quite dodgy! Very popular with TT riders though
tirepressure in winter is around 4 psi in soft snow on my fat bike
The longer distance camera shots make Connor on El Alto and Hank on a regular bike look like a dad and their kid out for a ride. Lol!
hank's training arc with gmbn really paid off on that bmx course
At 8:29, that image of Connor on El Alto with Hank on a fat bike looks like a father taking his rowdy son out for a ride.
