    It's been about thirty years since I've done this climb. It was about the only road bike climb I've ever struggled with rear wheel traction on, especially since the surface is often wet, and I had to zig zag the steepest parts. Fun video, thanks for posting.

      I used to have that mindset too, but I actually think my fitness improved when I got an expensive bike because the gears go higher and also I'm now more stoked about riding on long bike paths, so I do it more often, whereas long distance riding used to be not nearly as fun on a budget bike. There's something really irritating about people passing you while giving way less effort than you just becausse they have better bikes than you. It made me feel really discouraged, and that feeling can ruin a workout.

    Crazy power and fitness. I found a local 500m climb that looks like an exponential curve, maxing at 18%, on my ~32lb dual sus MTB with 32-46 gearing, and I almost had a heart attack by the end of it.
    I’m interested to try it on my ~19lb road bike with 34-34 gearing and see if the lighter weight but harder gearing can see me up it. I don’t like the thought of having to unclip on such a steep segment if I fail!!!

    So I guess the question would be that based on your physical makeup (your strengths as a sprinter) would a climbing specific training plan ever get you to a point that you could beat a trained climber (his physical strengths) climbing? I am a sprinter but I live in CO and don't race crits anymore. On longer group ride or gravel races that tend to have elevation gain, should my focus be on trying to become the best "climber" I can and hope I can hang on for the finish? Or go back to crits?

    • @aussiefreediver
      @aussiefreediver 2 роки тому +1

Then after a few days go back and do 3 x 8 min @ threshold with 2-3 rest between. then keep upping it by 2 min each week till you're doing 3 x 12 min. Same with vo2. 3x3 min (3 min rest between) then 2 min rest between then 1 min rest between. That's 3 weeks (w/ 1 Z4 and 1 Z5 workout per week). Maybe I'm missing it -- where is the link to the actual ride route? I just see a Strava link to Jeff's account but no links there to this ride. THanks.

    I did a grueling 6 mile climb last weekend that was 4% average grade, let me know if you want me on the show for the next challenge.

    I know exactly how that feels climbing with the cheap heavy bike. I'm climbing bridge twice a week and need about 15km from home to that bridge before i can climb it 😂

    I actually don't mind the look of the Eurobike. It's a shame that it hasn't been put on a diet.

    I lived halfway up that hill! Had the CR for running for a bit. Sigh.

    Ouch, 19lbs for a TCR? Do you have lead weights in the frame?

    Jeff, see the reply to my previous question/post. Looks like the spambots have been busy and are offering up your TCR to me as a new ride:) I'm not sure if you see all these replies or if you have a way to blacklist them. They even used the NC logo on their spoof site with a tiny black at the top.

    I did not expect a $350 bike to have disc brakes, definitely will need it on the way down lol.

      Lol! I couldn't count the number of times I missed the break and then bridged up, but I caught the breakaway just at the bottom of a climb. I'm sure you know how that ends!
