The fact that he was on that 36 lb bike and still basically kept up with you, that's insane!
My full suspension trail bike is even lighter than the eurobike lol
@@lachilly1131 not really a flex the eurobike is a pos
@@loc9588 im not flexing, I think it’s just crazy that a road bike can be heavier than a mid-range trail bike
Could have taken the kick stand off at least. LOL
16 kg
It's been about thirty years since I've done this climb. It was about the only road bike climb I've ever struggled with rear wheel traction on, especially since the surface is often wet, and I had to zig zag the steepest parts. Fun video, thanks for posting.
This looks like a GCN segment. I LOVE IT!! :D
dont disrespect jeff like that
Or Safa Brian, except, uphill.
Except less, what's the term ... (checks google translate) ... "less wankers"
@@wateim3951 "fewer"
Way better than GCN. Just the location alone is a win. Bay Area Living.💯
Because of the dropped chain, you need a do-over.
OR he should have just waited for him to fix the chain, the only conclusion from this video is "a dropped chain will slow you down".
and swap bikes
I think the chain couldn’t take it any more and jumped.
@@ericpmoss he tried to switch to the granny and put down too much force. I ride a 3x and this happens all the time if you're not used to it. he was probably used to 2x systems
Jackson is one of the strongest cyclists I’ve personally met…glad to see him here and show what he’s got. A 36lb bike is craazyyyyy
Thanks Yee! Miss you bud
What a great video - hope to see more of Jackson on your channel! Chemistry is great and he's clearly strong both with his abilities and knowledge. Jackson actually did my bike fit a couple years ago, and inspired me to really elevate my cycling - genuinely a great guy :)
Thanks guys for showing some of the best locals riding in the bay area! I miss these roads!
Fun video! Really looking forward to watching the KOM attempt!
my home town! what a great place to grow up and to get hooked on cycling. fun video as always
I like how the 3 spoke wheel has graphics that say “3-spoke”
I love how Asians name things in English. When I was in Seoul, some of the shop names were “16oz Coffee”, “20oz Coffee”, and “32cm Ice Cream”. Then there was “A Beef Intestines Story”, “Self Barbecue”, and “Man Love Dog”.
Huge power numbers there guys! Way to go!
Please don't buy a Eurobike if you're on a budget, you can get so much more second hand for the same money. They shouldn't be allowed to put bike in their name....
?
@@___kayedLook at the weight! It's criminally heavy!
@@c.s.4273 are pro bikes really that heavy?
@@c.s.4273 calm down man
@@c.s.4273 I ain’t think it was that heavy
That looked like it hurt. I like this style of vid, would be nice to see more 1 on 1 stuff.
Thanks for the video, can you share the segment details or a link? I searched segments on Strava and found the hill on Google maps, but couldn't find a segment that appeared to match. I'd love to give it a try with some friends.
Wow, Jack you weren't joking. Can't believe you did it with that bike. Really showed me I gotta upgrade my engine before upgrading my bike!
It isn’t either or. You can do both 😉
I used to have that mindset too, but I actually think my fitness improved when I got an expensive bike because the gears go higher and also I'm now more stoked about riding on long bike paths, so I do it more often, whereas long distance riding used to be not nearly as fun on a budget bike. There's something really irritating about people passing you while giving way less effort than you just becausse they have better bikes than you. It made me feel really discouraged, and that feeling can ruin a workout.
You guys are Monsters!!!!! WOw!!!! Congrats to both.
minor edit: Xmas tree hill is in Corte Madera not Larkspur
sweet kick stand bro! only missing the saddle bag!
Love the kickstand on the bike, I wish this was a thing. 😃
I would die. Plain and simple. I am sure my heart would just explode, and I'm pretty sure that is worse than a dropped chain! 🤣 Well done you two!
Love your vids keep it up 😁
I love the how you guys left the kickstand on
Love your work man keep up
This is the content I've been waiting for.
i'm 250lbs. I would roll backwards after about 6 minutes.
And stop others rolling backwards.
Haha - I’d stop after the 5% section and say, “Nailed it!”
210lbs here and my legs are burning just watching. Lmao 😂😂😂
😂
nice, you started from one of my favorite giant dealer locations. larkspur bike shop is great, nice owner
Great video! Enjoyed every minute of it! It's the rider not the bike....or so I want to think that knowing I have a starter bike (Trek Domane AL5).
Oh man. Summit is crazy steep! I've only gone down it.
Attackiing during a machanical! Forshame! Good stuff guys.
Guys are insane shape. Awesome stuff
Nice sportmanship, cool video.
love the kick stand 😂
If you've never ridden a bike with those cheap bladed aluminium wheels, you wouldn't believe the amount of flex (or how heavy they are). It feels like you're going backwards on the flat, let alone uphill.
great effort
hah, never heard of this climb. looks fun, gonna have to do this on a ride from here in sf some time soon.
i wish i'd watch this vid before I bought my used bike for commuting. that eurobike looks sick!
still got the kickstand attached, amazing.
When you drop a vchain you don't have to stop.
Overshoot in the opposite. Direction where the chain was dropped.
Gently pedal until the chain ring picks up the train.
You can practice this on your trainer.
AWESOME VIDEO!🔥🔥🔥 my only 2çent feedback is you guys should have done a fair amount of rest, have another go and SWITCHED BIKES☺️ and we’ll see how different the outcome would be! 😉
Other than that it was Spectacular !!
Come to Seattle to do some training. Lots of hills in the 15-20+% range.
Great example of “its not the bike but the athlete” so train hard forget about the marginal gains and spending unnecessary to make you 2-3 watts faster.
Riding a 35 lb bike up that climb and still riding that well is amazing!!
Chain catcher is essential for shifting down under this sort of effort. Even the pros use them.
Omg waiting for next episode that you guys switched the bike 🙂🙃
All climbers out there, try Charleston rd ,Volcano Ca . Go from Volcano to Shake ridge rd .This is one tough ride.
Is there a take home for the average Jo? Gearing maybe, being able to pedal at a preferred cadence and therefore a power you can sustain.
awesome video!
You guys are amazing.
Gonna need to see Andrew Feather on the channel
Wow that was the first entry level bike I started with I thought it was a one off 😅 The old trusty euro bike
Crazy power and fitness. I found a local 500m climb that looks like an exponential curve, maxing at 18%, on my ~32lb dual sus MTB with 32-46 gearing, and I almost had a heart attack by the end of it.
I’m interested to try it on my ~19lb road bike with 34-34 gearing and see if the lighter weight but harder gearing can see me up it. I don’t like the thought of having to unclip on such a steep segment if I fail!!!
road bike will be harder because of gearing.. uncliping is easy, but try to clip in and start on such incline..
That was awesome! …. Great job.,
Lol he is biking with a bike kickstand 🤣
7:13 the right edge of that asphalt is a sinkhole just waiting to open up any minute.
I’d really like doing the going back down part.
Love your videos. How tall are you and what size is your TCR?
Jeff is look like more climber than jackson, based on their body 😂
You guys should try mix canyon Rd in Fairfield,Ca.
oooof. that cadence is just making my legs hurt!
Well there goes your Knees 🤪🚴♂️🚴♀️🚴♂️… OMG Had to add… The Euro Bike had a Quick Stand 😂
Two climbs of note: Mix Canyon off Pleasant Valley Road in Vacaville area and Gate's Canyon not far from that. Give those two a ride with another climber. Last mile are both ugly. Coming down those hills are worse than the climb. Bring a disc brake road bike. Awesome Video.
I ride all around there, I’ve seen Barry Bonds a couple times.
bro got dat aerodynamic kickstand
Awesome! Do it again!
Great job guys 😂
Great video
I have two pair myself!
Jeff, are there any NorCal codes for one those sweet Eurobike
stem spacers??
Fun video, but I feel like I missed something. What was the point in having the climber on a 36 pound bike? Seems like everything that happened after that was, if not irrelevant, at least predictable. On a 7kg bike, the climber still wins handily, even with a dropped chain. I have clearly misunderstood something.
yeah you are missing the fact that it is for fun. and to see if he can keep up with non climber who has advantage
Gearing, which clearly backfired lol
Looks fun 😁
Anyone ever rode up Sugarloaf in Santa Rosa area? The front wheel of my old Cannondale red shred got very light
I know exactly how that feels climbing with the cheap heavy bike. I'm climbing bridge twice a week and need about 15km from home to that bridge before i can climb it 😂
the Eurobike strikes back :D
Hi.. what bike computer or camera do you use on this video. It shows heart rate, wattage, map, elev ?
Gobik!!! My fav kit I own
How to make video with all sensor display like that???
Thank you
I lived halfway up that hill! Had the CR for running for a bit. Sigh.
What is the brand of the black sunglasses?
mix canyon is a steep ride..outside vacaville ca.. starts out soft and easy.. then it get hard.. in a few corners, you come around them.. and is so steep you think your face will hit the pavement
I want to SEE A REMATCH!!!
Quero ver fazer isso com uma MTB e estrada de terra! Aqui no Brasil a maioria dos escaladores treino de MTB e em subidas mal calçadas, de terra ou paralelepípedo! Não vão tão rápido mas o esforço é muito!
what was the small front gear and largest rear gear on both bikes?
This is a great video…at the finish line I hear the creak on the TCR…MINE HAS DONE THE SAME SINCE DAY 1. Could you please share what you think this comes from?
Press fit bottom bracket
@@NorCalCycling gosh I hate to hear that😭 already have gotten this serviced to try to fix but I guess I need to accept the fate that it’s the reality of owning the TCR. Thank you for the reply!
I did a grueling 6 mile climb last weekend that was 4% average grade, let me know if you want me on the show for the next challenge.
I don't get the idea of this test. Is it sprinter vs climber or is it light bike with big gear vs heavy bike with granny gear. Please enlighten me.
I actually don't mind the look of the Eurobike. It's a shame that it hasn't been put on a diet.
The dropped chain was significant. The draft was also very significant
That 36 lb bike woulda totally killed the downhill on a roundtrip race
Nobody’s going to call out the kickstand doping? Those boffins at UCI would have had their panties in a bunch if they found out! 😂😂😂
Insane power from Jackson nearly 400watts for 11 mins, very rough maths total train weight 96kg playing your 85kg. I do love my ulterga 52-36 11-34 but I can't produce 400 watts for 10 mins
A 39-28 is a silly gear for that hill.
@@serevinvukele8046 🤣, wouldn't have made much of a video with 36-34 as you smoked smoked the Euro bike and Jackson.
Kept the kick stand on lol
you didn't even take the kickstand off the Eurobike... lol...
That is insanely funny. 800 feet in 1.14 miles equals 13.3%. You know what also equals 13.3%? 133 meters climb in one kilometer.
36 pounds?? I don't think my grandmother's balloon-tyre 3-speed Raleigh from the 1930s weighed that much, even with the steel rack, fenders, and full wrap-around chain-guard included.
Vintage bikes were about 50 pounds. They got a lot lighter in the 70's when they started perfecting thin-wall steel tubing, about 28-30 pounds then.
It's the aero look with the cheap materials. You get away with all the aero on an expensive bike because they use expensive materials to reduce the weight, not so on a Eurobike.
Every single bike should have a backup rear granny gear. The only exception is downhill and indoor racing in which no granny gears are needed
What a beast!!!!
Maybe I'm missing it -- where is the link to the actual ride route? I just see a Strava link to Jeff's account but no links there to this ride. THanks.
Should do this again with EJ! Would be curious to see how he does
woah, I have a 13-28 with a 53-39 crank and anything above 10% is insane for me, once got lost in the hills took a wrong turn and had to climb a 20% short section, I've never achieved a higher hr than 180 before that and I got 203 hr on that section I basically died after that 100meters
I switched to 52-36, for a non pro I reckon it's the perfect compromise, especially as it looks like you have nice close ratios otherwise. You don't lose much at the top end but gain a decent amount at the bottom.
That eurobike is a gate!
