  • Kings Park Psychiatric Center originally opened in 1885 as the Kings County Asylum. It was a “farm colony” model of asylum, where the patients took part in farm work and agricultural activities, a form of therapy at the time. The number of patients grew during the early 20th century and by the 1930s, the farm colony had turned into a larger facility, along with the thirteen story Building 93, which was built in 1939. By the 1950s, electroshock therapy and pre-frontal lobotomies became common in mental institutions across America, as well as new medication which allowed patients to live normally outside the hospital. The population of patients at Kings Park began to decline by the 1970s and eventually sections of buildings were permanently abandoned. The last remaining patients were either discharged or transferred to other Long Island Asylums, and Kings Park officially closed in 1996. When we visited, there was a large amount of people that happened to be exploring it as well; some of them are visible in the drone clip towards the end of the video :). Shown in the video are buildings 15, 41, 42, 43 and 93; there is more but unfortunately time wouldn’t allow us to visit everything on the site. As always thank you for watching, and don’t forget to like and subscribe if you’re new!

Awesome video bro. I'm really enjoying these videos. You should make a next one in a drain tunnels beneath canal street. Not alot of people do sewer or drain pipe explorations in NYC, allthough it's a perfect place for some awesome photography.🔥🤘

Really strange now that I look back …went on a field trip in ‘70 to Pilgrim State with my HS Sociology class which looked very similar.
