Baby flying-fox goes to a carer: Gwickle goes to Nene
Вставка
- Опубліковано 18 жов 2024
- Janine (Nene) arrived today to collect Gwickle and Rubicon and manage their care until, on the outside chance that Rubi survived, they could be reunited, however, in the hour before Nene arrived, Rubi's condition deteriorated so dramatically, that I was going to take her for euthanasia; she died a short time later (not unexpectedly), before I could take her to the vet.
RIP Rubicon.
Update: Gwickle is doing well with Nene, feeding well and growing.
Tolga Bat Hospital takes donations for our batties. Tolga is an awesome place in Far North Queensland, which has charity status. By sending donations to them, they get a percentage (and deserve every cent) and they can allocate money to me for batty expenses without it becoming part of my income stream (which makes tax time difficult).

Mention Megabattie or Meg in the PayPal message box and the money will find its way to me.
If no message box appears, please email Jenny to tell her that the money is for me.
IMPORTANT: If you pay through the PayPal Giving Fund, can you please email Jenny with the AMOUNT DONATED and the name under which you have donated, OR just forward along the PP receipt.
The Giving Fund doesn’t charge any fees (so the bats get more money) but PP doesn’t itemise out the amount, they just send a total every month, and we don’t know if the money is for Tolga or for Megabattie.
Here’s Jenny’s email.

Dear Meg, I’m so very sorry for Rubi’s death. You gave her time surrounded by warmth, soft things, analgesia, and peace as she slipped away. She would be pleased that you and your batty friends are caring for Gwickle, so that her genes will live on! Such darling video of the wee baby girl! Thank you for all of your hard work and kindness to the animals.
Hugs from Lynn in Hallsville, Missouri USA
I'm so glad Gwinkle is doing well. Fare well Rubicon
RIP Rubicon
I'm very sad that mum Rubicon didn't make it, but am so grateful to Meg, Maggie, and Nene for stepping in and being the best human mums a baby orphaned bat could ask for. ❤
Nene will do the hard yards and raise the little one until release creche.
@Kim-lc3fv , Did you get to sniff any baby bats when you visited? If so, do you agree with Meg and Nene that they smell wonderful?
@@SuziQ. No baby batties in winter
I’m sorry you lost your mommy, Gwickle, but you’re in the best non-batty hands you could possibly be in.
So sad about Rubicon. Fly free, your precious little girl is in the best hands. ❤️🦇🕯️🙏🏼
Sweet little Gwickle, enjoy the love and care , you'll become just as beautiful as your mom ❤️🦇❤️🥰👍🏼
Rest in Peace sweet Rubicon. Your sweet Baby Gwickle is a survivor and adorable.
Gwickle is in good hands. RIP sweet Rubi, you live on through through your beautiful baby ❤
Bless you, little Gwickle! ❤
RIP Rubicon, God speed little darling, those fantastic people will take care of your baby ❤❤😢
Although not unexpected, it is still sad. I hope Rubi flies forever without pain in the stars. She has a beautiful Gwickle who is adorable. May she continue to scarf bottles and make many wees.
Thank you, Nene for caring for both of them.
Rubicon gave her life to ensure the next generation of her species and she held on long enough after her injury to keep her precious cargo alive until help came.
Always sad when one of these beautiful creatures succumb to accidents but we can take solace in knowing Gwickle will be loved and cared for until she can be released.
Hello Nene.
Rubi finally did crossover and is in no more pain, she's watching over her little Gwickle being taken care of. Baby Gwickle is just so sweet to watch when
Nene was holding her & you two were talking about the little Battie I heard her squeak again! A tiny Gwickle squeak ~ ❤ 😅
I'm so sorry for Gwickle's mom 😢. Thank you for caring this lovely baby 🙏🏻🌷🌟🍀💜
Vanilla musk, mmmm! Love the scarf! RIP Rubicon.
Rubicon got to go out knowing that her baby was safe and cared for. Thanks for that ❤
Very saddened to hear Rubicon didn't make it. You sure tried to save her & for that we are all grateful. Fly free Rubi. You live on in little Gwickle, who is receiving the best, loving care. ❤
Poor momma Rubicon, RIP old girl. At least her little Gwickle is nice and healthy and in the best hands she could be. Grow up and fly free, little one.
Im glad Gwinkle is doing good , y'all are so caring ladys❤❤❤
😢😢😢
The scarf is amazing.
But can’t get enough of that adorable little face.
Rubicon was such a beautiful batty. So sad that she didn’t make it but her precious little baby is in the best care possible. Sweet little Gwikle will be receiving a lot of love and cuddles 🥰🦇🥰
Poor little Rubicon. Know that your baby is well cared for!
Aww, Little Gwickle snuggled into her blue bunny, thumb hooked into her new mum (thank you, Nene!), and enjoying the massage is *darling.* And the scarf is so pretty!!
Goodnight, Rubi. May you find the orchards among the stars.
Rest in peace, Rubicon. Fair winds to you, little Gwickle!
I'm glad Gwickle is thriving, Rubi didn't look good at all on the last video, she gave everything to her little one to look after until you could save her from the pool
Love the scarf, love the baby, and sorry Rubicon didn't make, but she had excellent Meg care.🇨🇦🦇🍁❣️
RIP Rubi... and Gwickle, I am sorry you lost your mommy, but you are in great hands and may you continue to grow and thrive!
Aww, poor Rubicon. Those head injuries are so hard. Thank goodness her baby is safe and thriving. Baby Gwickle’s dozing through the transfer over, safe and sound ❤️🦇💕
Love that bat scarf! Bats hanging onto branches correctly.
Everyday I prayed for Rubi..... I am heartbroken
She had very little chance of survival; there was nothing I could do.
You did all that you could, as per usual. @@Megabattie
Damn, RIP Miss Rubi, you kept your little one safe until help arrived, and she is in the best possible hands now. 💔Looking forward to watching snippets of Gwickle growing up on Nene's FB page!
Gwickle gwickle little 🌟
Oh how I have missed the baby bats 🦇 💕🦇💕🦇 and you wonderful rescuers!!!!
❤❤❤❤ Shes so precious!
Sweet baby love that scarf 🤩🤩🤩💖💖
Beautiful.
The scarf is adorable
RIP Rubicon 🥰
Rubi, sleep well and your baby will be looked after, go dream of all the fruits you can eat now.
Meg, you took such wonderful care of them both.....
Sad to hear that Rubi was too injured to make it, you and she both did your best, and thankfully she was warm, away from predators, and her pain managed.🌹Gwickle is more adorable by the day, and is clearly on her way to a happy, healthy childhood with Nene.🥂So nice to see Nene instantly fall in love with that sweet girl. Your new shawl is gorgeous Meg, you did a great job of switching Gwickle to the bottle and humum. She is so relaxed and easy with you, Maggie, and Nene.🥰🖤🇨🇦
RIP darlin mumma...😢❤ good luck sweetheart bubba!!!💜🦇💜🦇💜
Pobre Rubicon. Lo siento mucho Meg. Sé que ha hecho todo lo posible por ella. Seguro que sabía que estaba en buenas manos. Descanse en Paz. Me alegro mucho que la pequeña Gwickle esté bien.
Poor Rubi! 😢 Fly free! Gwickle is in good hands with Nene. I get a kick out of seeing her, she is great with the babies. I hope she keeps you posted on Gwickle's condition. That little pup looked so cute cuddled up to a stuffed animal with a pacifier in her mouth!
You can see updates of Gwickle (renamed Phoebe), on the Bats Bomaderry and Beyond FB page.
Gwickle is so sweet ❤❤❤❤❤
Gwickle is just adorable, I'm so sorry you lost your mummy, rest well Rubicon. Thank you for doimg all you can Meg. Good luck little princess, thank you Nene ❤
Goodbye Ruby, you leaving your baby in the best of hands! I'm so sorry you were too hurt!😢😢
Mi rattrista molto che Rubicon non ce l'abbia fatta ! RIP 😢🦇
fly high, rubi. your baby is in good hands
Awww Meg, so sorry Rubicon passed. Thank goodness she was with you, she never felt alone then. God bless you Meg and friends. ❤❤ And Gwickle will survive, grow strong, and carry on her Mother's genes. ❤❤
You can check out Bats Bomaderry and Beyond FB page and get updates. Janine called her Phoebe because she kept forgetting the name Gwickle.
RIP momma, your baby will be ok.❤❤❤
🙏🏼♥️🙏🏼
Off goes little Gwickle to his new home, and off goes mum to hers x
❤
I love your sense of humor! 😂
The scarf is beautiful ❤
Gwickles is a darling! ❤
I had to switch off regarding Rubicon! So sad! 😢😢😢
Thank you for all that you do!!
I didn't have much in the way of hope for Rubi even right from the start; once she let me take her baby and wasn't interested thereafter, I stopped believing in her survival chances, however, you have to at least try and try hard.
Rip Rubicon the meep 🦇
Best for Gwinkle the meep 🦇
Love how little Gwickle possessively put her thumb on her new mum's shirt. RIP Rubi.
The scarf is lovely! I googled the website, that's totally a shop I'd be buying from 🤩 (if it weren't for horribly expensive customs fees to Germany).
Too bad baby bat smell can't be collected, bottled and sent to interested viewers. Without hurting the babies of course.
Don't think collected poop and pee would do it. 😄Linda from Ontario Canada.
I'd collect it if it was a simple matter. Often my car smells like baby Grey when I get into it the next day; the smell has concentrated on any wraps or in the incubator and been trapped in the car all night. It's a lovely thing.
I know Rubi was very concussed, but think she knew her baby was being cared for. Gwickle is being cared for very well and can't get any more precious. Bat baby smell does sound similar to human infant smell. It has many of the same scent components of baby powder/ Love's Baby Soft fragrance ( that most of us wore in high school) and vanilla. Actually, I sniff a baby bat if it came to me smelling my butt.
I think she had internal injuries as well.
Yay!for thesweetest little survivor🌱🦇 Hopefully the Mom took comfort in knowing her baby was being looked after🦇💫💞
❤❤❤
I’m jealous 😂 I want to care for a bat baby 😍😍😍
Do you live in Carmel, CA?
What a pretty baby. I'm from Alabama in the USA I wish I was there
Welcome to Megabattie, Dale, I'm Meg
I put lots of information in the descriptions under the videos - so if you have questions, look for the answers there first. I also put the fate of the animal if I know it, at the time I put the video up. I may put updates there later if I find out what happened to the animal after it has left my care.
There is also a Happy Outcomes playlist if you want to only watch videos where the bat survives; this is a real life channel and you get the good, the bad, the ugly and distressing, and even my oopsies.
You can find further videos on an individual bat by searching in the YT search bar for Megabattie/and the name of the bat you want to follow.
There is a community tab (like a mini Facebook page) on my channel - if you go to Megabattie home page, there is a menu bar across the top under the cover pic. Home, Videos, Playlists, Community, About. If you click on the community tab there are posts there where I can share pix and talk about some of the videos I put up and answer questions.
I put up videos from Mandi and my rescue and care videos, so look to the title or description to figure out the context of the vids. Mandi doesn't rescue but she does a huge amount of rehabbing and has a lot of permanent care bats unable to be released for various reasons. She sends me the most amazing videos of her old retired bats in care; they've all got individual personalities and adorable quirks. Mandi lives 1200 kms away from me so I don't get to visit there often. I raise money for her on the videos.
The rescue vids from my point of view are all mine, and if you hear me talking and see my hands in the videos doing bat care, then that's me too.
Sorry about Mum bat.
In some ways mom knew she wasn't doing well. Placed herself where she heard rumors in the colony of a hairless animal will come for her and baby..Tada the hairless creature appears..
Meg I am deeply sorry Rubi Mumbat didn't survive!😓♥️🩶🦇💔💕💕 I do wish I could smell the sweetness of bubba Gwickle who may still have bed head.🩶🦇🤗💕 Thank you Meg and Janine for your beautiful care of the Bats.🥺💕💕
She was never going to survive, but you have to at least try because you can't see inside to see what the actual damage is.
@@Megabattie Meg you ALWAYS do everything possible to save the Bats you rescue, Thank you and bless you for taking great care of them and helping them.🥺💕💕
6:06 Fancy Halloween nails 💅. I like that pattern.
Uns morrem, mas outros vivem e muitos nascem. Lume Lume soro lume, unul naste si altul moare. Obrigado, garotas. 😿
Sorry about mam, little baby. Xxx
🙏🦇💗🦇💗🙏
Bugger. I had a feeling poor Rubicon wasn't gonna make it, sucks to be right though! At least lil Gwickle could be saved. Rubi did such a good job keeping her baby safe and well until help arrived. Be at peace Rubi, your baby is safe!
I didn't give her much of a chance, if at all. Once she let me take her baby without a fight, and wasn't interested thereafter, I stopped believing she had a chance.
@@Megabattie yeah, She kinda reminded me of the mumbat with twins (velcro and klingon). She had the same apathy about being stripped of the babies. Never bodes well, but still gotta try. I had a shock this morning, i checked my winter hog houses, i only have 3 beds left (theres 20 beds in the shed nicknamed hog hotel lol). Seems they've been gossiping about where to stay lol. 2 days ago i only had 7 in there. Lil sods
@@bevakathedementedraccoon Hedgehogs one presumes?
Yes Velcro wasn't interested and eventually took Klingon back because he was uncomplicated, but the stressy Velcro needed to be handraised.
Some girls ever take their babies back. Some don't feel well enough to take the baby back but if you offer the baby they will take them without a lot of enthusiasm.
@@Megabattie yup, hedgehogs. Some are old rescues released in the hedges near my home (i'm on outskirts of a town, n have open farmland and woods 5 mins from my door, handy for release days). A few always come back for winter. I just wasn't expecting to be full so fast lol.
It depends on the mum i guess n how shes feeling. I know if i'd flown headfirst into something hard, i'd probs be only too glad to be baby free too lol
Her nose is so cute. Megabat noses actually look like a condition in dogs called "bifid nose" where their nose doesnt form in utero as standard so is basically "split" with a deep cleft.
Its (99% of the time) just cosmetic but severe cases make the nose look like a lil megabats!
Which I didnt realize till I started watching this channel.
Poor Rubi. That looked like agonal breathing at the end. Was an outcome unfortunately expected. Im always worried when they are out of it and not recovering. I want to see them octopus-ing and squacking to high heaven at the "big scary being".
At least little Gwickle is in good hands.
Yes, except bat noses are bifurcated with a channel between each nostril whose opening is slightly canted to the sides, for a reason; it enables them to eat juicy rainforest fruits upside down without the juice running into their nostrils.
@Megabattie
Nature is so cool. Its crazy that what in a lot of beings is a congenital malformation developed into a species trait that helps the lil beings that eat juicy fruit upside down so it doesnt run into their nostrils!
Sorry Rubicon died, and delighted that Gwickle has survived and thrived. So many of these bats get untreatable brain injuries. Too bad flying foxes haven't developed some really basic sonar like Egyptian fruit bats, but maybe under natural conditions there isn't a lot for them to fly into and hurt their heads.
They don't need to echolocate because their food is stationary; they can find it better with big eyes with tapeta (reflectors), good night vision and a good sense of smell.
@@Megabattie The Egyptian fruit bats spend their days in dark places like caves, so they've independently developed a little crude sonar by a somewhat different method than microbats. Quite possibly it's easy to develop a liitle sonar for many mammals. Some blind people can use the tapping of their canes to judge the location of walls and exits, as long as it's quiet.
@@b.a.erlebacher1139 I know about the Egyptian fruit bats and their cave location
But I don't want her to go to a different carer!😢😢😢
Janine has a facebook page: Bats Bomaderry and Beyond. You can follow her progress there. She has been renamed Phoebe.
All I can say is this…
Without these amazing wildlife rescuers and/or rehabilitators, these babies would die.
Thank you 🙏 ❤️
p.s gwickle is Devine, how’s rubicon?
Yep
Oh? RIP Rubicon
Aw man. Miss Rubicon did'nt make it! So sad to read about it. What will happen to little Gwickle?
She's being raised by Nene.
The smell of newborns is the lingering fragrance of heaven. Wordsworth said: Trailing clouds of glory do we come from God who is our home. The smell is the proof of heaven.
Well said Wordsworth.

Can babies who have lost their mum be accepted by another mum?
Yes and no; it depends on the baby and the mum.
Also if the mum has another baby she can't manage 2 babies, so she would only be adopted by a mum who had lost her baby.
I do know that I was rescuing a baby who was hanging near the ground in the colony when a mum was coming down and doing fly-bys. I checked the baby over quickly, gave her a drink, and put her as high in a tree as I could so mum could come collect her.
Mum wouldn't come when I was there, so I left and came back in a couple of hours.
When I returned, baby was 5 metres up the tree, mum was hanging a metre above her, and neither of them were together. Baby cried and mum responded, but neither would get together.
I think it was a mum who had lost her baby, and a baby who had lost her mum, but they weren't mum and baby to each other, and neither would commit to being together.
I rescued the baby with a pole, and she came into care and was hand raised.
As it turned out, after the fluids I'd given the baby, she had swollen finger joints and needed X-rays to see if they were broken. They weren't, but she wasn't great for a few weeks and it was touch and go for a while to see if it healed well enough for her to fly.
Is there a link where this scarf can be ordered? 🙂
